Indo-Pakistani wars and conflicts

edit

Hi - I wanted to drop a note. It looks like your edits to Indo-Pakistani wars and conflicts were reverted by Adamgerber80, with the edit history summary "Per WP:WEIGHT. Why so much relevance to the US position?". Looking at the added material, I do share in his concern that the section is so lengthy, especially given that the other nations only have a few sentences about their involvement or reactions. I think that a good way to summarize this material is to boil it down to the most basic information. In general you don't have to go into depth about the various wars or background in this section, as the general information about the wars should be in the above sections. If it's not, it would definitely be worthwhile to re-write these so that you can add information about these wars elsewhere.

Overall, I would recommend seeing if you can summarize this into the same list format as the other countries listed in the section as far as the US specific content goes. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:10, 24 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Shalor (Wiki Ed) and KiranHS. I think this is a commendable initiative to get university students involved in editing Wikipedia pages and the content added to Indo-Pakistani wars and conflicts was referenced. I have certain issues with it's addition and your further ideas on it. I think US public opinion is something that has no WP:WEIGHT in Indo-Pakistani wars and conflicts. The rationale here is why does the public opinion of a single country's public matter. If we were to include this then we would have to also include the public opinion of other major countries involved which is not necessary. This is similar to pages of other long standing conflicts like the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and Korean conflict where so such opinion is included. On the contrary the public opinion's in India and Pakistan should carry more WP:WEIGHT in such an article. The other nations sections in Indo-Pakistani wars and conflicts explicitly covers their past (and current) involvement in the conflict. This can be expanded to include their current official stand on the issue. The distilled down content (which you mention) belongs to in a distinct article Public Opinion about US Foreign Policy where it should be included along with US public opinion on various other issues. If you wish to add any content to the Indo-Pakistani wars and conflicts in the future, I would highly recommend to initiate a discussion on the Talk page and gain broad consensus. Happy editing.
