Midterm Wikipedia Roadmap Assignment

Proposal

edit

I propose to edit the [| Criticism of Facebook] page. For one thing, the page is somewhat unorganized and I feel it could be consolidated a little bit. In terms of substance, I would look more into the political/policy aspect of the Facebook controversy, especially at the issues with minors' information, maybe even make a separate page for Facebook issues regarding minors (Facebook might prevent applications from asking minors for contact information). In a sense, the way Facebook deals with and uses user information is almost like hacking or theft of personal property. They're very sly in the way that they extract user information and sell it to companies. Even though there are little loopholes and stipulations in the terms of agreement that comes with Facebook usage that supposedly make it okay for Facebook to do what they do, there is much controversy surrounding it and legislators are working to make sure that Facebook is reasonable and transparent. I feel that what is included in the existing Wikipedia page could be elaborated on/added to.

Grade

Check (as opposed to check plus or minus). I think that your ideas are excellent. The criticism of facebook page is so damn illogically organized, it would be great to reformat it into something clearer and more educational. The idea about a page specifically for criticisms concerning minors is a good one, what I would suggest is putting a small section dedicated to that within the Criticism of Facebook page and then hyperlinking into the other page. The only reason you're getting a check instead of a check plus is that you need to have a transcript of a conversation with an online or campus ambassador. Hey kiona. The progress you've made on the criticism of facebook page has been good, but I think you can definitely contribute more than a few sentences. You had some great ideas on delving deeper into the relationship between minors and facebook, and I think that in these last couple weeks you should really finish this project by either creating that new page, adding a significant new section to the page you're editing, or else if the minors issue doesn't pan out - by making many more edits to the incoherently organized facebook criticism page. If you have any questions let me know. PatBerger (talk) 22:59, 12 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
