Speedy deletion of Jay Blotcher

A tag has been placed on Jay Blotcher requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Concerns about your editing

I'm concerned about the patterns I've noticed in your editing in regard to WP:SPAM. I strongly suspect WP:COI applies as well. I'm also concerned that despite all the notices on this page, you've never contributed to a single talk page. I've asked for another opinion, and am happy to discuss more details with you. --Ronz (talk) 15:50, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Discussion here. --Ronz (talk) 19:50, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Andrea Callard, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://dlib.nyu.edu/findingaids/html/fales/callard.html, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL), versions 1.3 or later then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Andrea Callard and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or that the material is released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Andrea Callard with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Andrea Callard.

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Andrea Callard saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:09, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

While I appreciate that you've taken some steps to revise this material, I'm afraid that what you are left with is a close paraphrase that very probably crosses the line into copyright infringement. Please see our copyright policy and especially our copyright FAQ for more information on using external sources. If you are affiliated with the source or can otherwise obtain permission by the processes set out above, we should be able to use this text. Otherwise it will need to be revised. Please let me know if you have any questions. I am watching your talk page. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:09, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
As I am continuing to look into this, I see some other articles of concern. So far, these include Guerrilla TV, Godzilla Asian American Arts Network, Fashion Moda, Wendy Perron, Ubu Repertory Theater, Tony Martin (artist) and April Palmieri. I will note here if I see any additional articles that follow their sources closely enough to represent an immediate concern. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:34, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Additional articles that need attention are Jay Blotcher, Jaime Davidovich, Ira Silverberg, Robert Alexander (photographer), Redtape Magazine, REPOhistory, Sensitive Skin Magazine and High Risk Books. Revising text to avoid infringing on copyright requires a complete restructuring. We not only have to completely change creative language, but also have to restructure the presentation of information (unless this is completely uncreative). Taking High Risk Books as an example, looking at one passage, your article says:

High Risk Books was dedicated to publishing innovative, provacative, and progressive literature. High Risk Books transcended the traditional boundaries of publishing to challenge and inspire a new generation of writers and readers.

Your source says:

Dedicated to publishing challenging, innovative, and progressive literature, High Risk Books transcended the traditional boundaries of publishing to provoke and inspire a new generation of writers and readers.

As it may be easier to see in juxtaposition, these two passages are almost word for word the same with only superficial changes in diction and word order. I sympathize with the challenges of rewriting when using one, brief source. It's far easier to do so when you have multiple sources or are condensing lengthy material. For example, I see far less of concern in the article John Watts (composer), although it, too, comes to close to the source with the phrase "an organization that grew into a nationally-recognized venue for contemporary dance and music in New York City" varying very little from the source's "an entity that quickly grew into a nationally-recognized venue for contemporary music and dance in New York City." --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:43, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I added a note to the Andrea Callard talk page. I, as a representative of Fales Library, own the copyrighted material. I have sent an email to the permissions page saying we accept the conditions of the GFDL. We are trying to facilitate researcher access to material and contribute to the information on Wikipedia about various figures. I hope this clears it all up, let me know if I need to do anything else. Also, I can refigure the pages to just include a bio note and links if that helps. Let me knowKelsievans (talk) 18:13, 27 April 2009 (UTC)kelsievans

Thanks. Please watch your e-mail. If there are any questions about the release, you should be contacted about them within a few days. Once the permission is processed, a member of the OTRS committee will make a note at the articles' talk pages indicating that the material is clear. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:30, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion: Lester Afflick

While looking at text for other problems, I came upon the article on Lester Afflick, which I have proposed should be deleted under the "proposed deletion" process. This means that I believe that this deletion should be uncontroversial to those who take into account our biography notability guidelines. Specifically, for poets, notability is achieved through such factors as (1) multiple, non-trivial references in reliable, published sources; (2) wide citation by peers and/or successors as an influence; (3) origination of a new concept or school; (4) production of a widely known work or body of work that has been covered in multiple periodical articles or reviews; or (5) critical success demonstrated through exhibition, awards, etc. Anyone can disagree that this deletion is uncontroversial and simply removed the "proposed deletion" template from the page. I hope if you disagree with me that you will consider demonstrating how he meets this guideline with references to multiple, reliable, published sources that confirm your view. If you disagree but don't have such references, it may be necessary to bring the matter up for community deletion discussion. It's far better to head such discussions off at the pass, if we can, by producing such sources in advance that will demonstrate that he meets our inclusion guidelines. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:57, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, i edited the lester afflick page, adding links to reviews and the title to a publication of his. hopefully this helps.Kelsievans (talk) 18:32, 27 April 2009 (UTC)kelsievans

Are there additional reviews? Does he have any collections that are not published by a subsidy publisher? (So this source indicates, anyway.) That would certainly help. If his notability is based on "a widely known body of work covered in multiple reviews", more reviews would be helpful. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:41, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by some search engines, including Google. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Ckatzchatspy 21:09, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Kelsieevans, from looking through your contributions it appears that your intentions are genuine, and that you are trying to contribute positively. Thank you for that. However, you should know that Wikipedia discourages the addition of links to a site merely because said links have content relating to an article. This is especially true of mass-adding links to dozens of articles. As such, most of the links you have added to various "External links" sections have been removed per the external links guideline. For future reference, it is better to use relevant material as a reference source, in order to verify new or existing content, rather than to just add a link. Please feel free to ask if you have questions about this. Thank you in advance. --Ckatzchatspy 21:15, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

FYI, I have removed the link from the "External links" section. Per my notes there, the site is already linked from the "References" section. As such, we do not duplicate that in the EL section. Thanks for responding, by the way. Cheers. --Ckatzchatspy 21:55, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Aubrey Wisberg, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://dlib.nyu.edu/findingaids/html/fales/wisberg.html. As a copyright violation, Aubrey Wisberg appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Aubrey Wisberg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Aubrey Wisberg and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Aubrey Wisberg with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Aubrey Wisberg.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. Greedyhalibut (talk) 23:16, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Margaret Strickland

A tag has been placed on Margaret Strickland requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

I would appreciate if you went through all those articles that you copied off another web site and reword them so that do not infringe other's copyright. Otherwise they will be deleted. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:57, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

see above: the editor claims copyright permission for all of them from NYU Fales Library. Butt he necessary formalities must be done for every one of them. Please do this as specified at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials DGG (talk) 01:20, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
