Hello edit

I notice you have been reverted, but it is easy to see that your edits are well meaning. Part of the problem may be that you don't use an edit summary, so it is difficult for others to tell WHY you are deleting that material. You might also try going to the talk page of that page and explaining. Dennis Brown |  | WER 00:12, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Ok, that explained WHAT you did, but I was meaning more about WHY you are doing it. That is two reverts in one day on that article, I would suggest just going to the article talk page now, and explain WHY you think it needs removing. Most people are willing to discuss or just accept, but we aren't mind readers, and we have no idea why you think it needs removing. Dennis Brown |  | WER 00:29, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have followed instructions to find the talk page in order to explain the changes, but cannot find the "talk" button as described in the getting started tutorial. Kbake1122 (talk) 00:44, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • If you are using a standard browswer, it should be next to "Article" just as this talk page tab is next to "User page" (somewhat on the upper left). Think of them as two sides of the same coin. One is for official info, the other is for discussing the info. Dennis Brown |  | WER 00:46, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

I switched to a desktop and was able to locate the talk page. I was initially using an iPad and didn't have the same options. Kbake1122 (talk) 00:57, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Ah, I don't use my smart phone for wikipedia, my eyes are way too bad for that. Let me offer this as well: WP:Teahouse is a must stop for new editors, or anyone really. It is staffed by very nice people who hang out just to answer questions. You look like you've edited some before, I assume as an IP, but they are still the best place to go when you are confused, have a question, etc. Dennis Brown |  | WER 00:59, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Excellent job on the talk page, giving a link and everything. That is exactly the kind of helpful stuff we need. I live in Lexington, so will likely leave to the local editors there. When you get reverted, always go to the talk page. We have a policy called WP:3RR here that says if you revert more than 3 times in 24 hour period (or just too much over a week, really), it can get you blocked. It is to prevent people from getting into edit wars and the like. Using the talk page is always best. Sometimes, I will make a change to the article, put an edit summary of "see talk page for info", then just go to the talk page and explain. We have no idea who is on the other side of each user name, so explaining reassures and lets us know WHY someone is deleting large chunks of info. It might not be obvious at first, but it makes sense if you think about it. Dennis Brown |  | WER 01:10, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
