Help

edit

Dear Kizilsungur: First of all please click on "edit this page" above so you can read my notes and see all the formatting - otherwise these notes will not make sense.

You should be able to insert any of your photos into the appropriate English Wikipedia file by just copying the name of the image from the Commons, then go to the page where you want the picture to show, click on "edit this page" and then insert the name of the image between square brackets - like this:

File:Insert name of image here.jpg
write description of image here

.

After that, you should look at your image by clicking on the "show preview" button to make sure it is showing exactly the way you want it to before clicking on the "save changes" button. I hope this helps you. If not, please write to me again. Good luck, John Hill 04:13, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The red ©

edit

Sorry Kizilsungur: I am certainly not annoyed with you. Your English is far better than my Turkish!!! I just do not understand exactly what the problem is and I don't know where the "red ©" is - or even what it is.

Maybe you can copy it from another file where it has already been used? I don't understand why you are having trouble getting permission to upload the files into the English Wikipedia. Perhaps you are being blocked by someone who does not want them shown on the Wikipedia - I notice they are all photos of weapons - so this maybe what is happening. I really don't know. If you continue to have problems I suggest you write a note to the "Village Pump" and other people might be able to help you with your question.

However, first, I will try to insert one of your photos here. If it works you should be able to just use the same basic coding to put it into the edit page of any article. So, I will try now,

AS-532 Cougar

That seems to work! Give it a try on the Edit page of some article and please let me know if you are still having troubles. Cheers, John Hill 04:31, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dear Kizilsungur: I just got your last message. I must apologise - I don't know how to insert the tag into the photos. Doesn't that tag mean that the photos are copyright protected? If so, I don't think you will be able to use it. However, as I said - I really don't know - you will have to ask someone else. Sorry. John Hill 04:55, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Wow! This is almost as fast as talking on the phone! Sorry I don't know how to help you with your problem. I am, however, very interested that you are a Tengrici - I did not realise there were still people left in Turkey who followed the old Turkish religion. When you have time - please write and tell me more about it. Tengri, as you of course know, was the sky god of the early Mongols and Turkic peoples. I am very interested in the early history in Central Asia, and have many books and articles on it. I notice the Wikipedia article on "Tengrism" is not very good or detailed. It needs a lot of work done on it. Perhaps we could, together, improve it some time? Cheers and all best wishes, John Hill 05:07, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Use Only in English Wikipedia" isn't possible

edit

It is not possible to upload images that can only be used on Wikipedia (or in a particular version of Wikipedia). In fact, it is current policy to speedily delete any image with such a condition. Also since the images are licensed under GFDL and CC-BY, anyone can already use the images. Perhaps you could change you mind, and allow them for use everywhere? Evil Monkey - Hello 05:22, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Templates such as {{Restricted use}} are really incompatible with the mission of Wikipedia which is to provide free content. We aim to have no restrictions on image usage. Evil Monkey - Hello 05:30, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Any image that is licensed as "for non-commercial use only" or "used with permission for use on Wikipedia only" will be speedy deleted. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, since explicit permission to use it was given, this is in fact not the case. [1] [2] Please do not upload any more files with this restriction on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it. See our non-free content guidelines for more information. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:01, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
On the other hand, you may upload images that you give permission under the GNU Free Documentation License and Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 license – which you seem to be doing now... Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:07, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Andy, please don't call everything vandalism; that (calling someone a vandal) might be considered vandalism and a WP:ATTACK violation. I checked the first one. For instance the coordinates in your version point to somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico!! You might have meant to use some other coordinate system, which would probably be discouraged on the Wikipedia. At the moment the information it gives is wrong. Please see WP:CONSENSUS as well. Also when you add something, please try and add the sources as well, or expect some reverts. VikiProje Türkiye'ye davet / Invitation to join WikiProject Turkey

Hi, I was thinking that maybe you would like to join the WikiProject Turkey. There you can also find and contact users who are trying to improve Turkey-related articles. If you would like to get involved, just visit the participants page and/or inquire at the project's talk page. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or other member of the WikiProject Turkey.

If you want to, you can talk about such stuff on the talk page of our WikiProject, Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Turkey. Please join the project as well, if you wish to do so (not necessary for starting discussions on that talk page). We have also Portal:Turkey. I don't know much about that portal, but I don't think we need to be members of something (not even Wikipedia) to be able to start discussions on that portal. That portal seems to be not so active. Unfortunately, we don't have enough many active Wiki editors in our project either, and there are many tasks to do (small and large); it is a huge Wikiproject. Also, next time, we can talk with each other in Turkish, there is no problem with that. By the way, I started editing Wikipedia one month after you did. DenizTC 16:59, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

Sorry, it's clearly Russian.

  • "Pyat" = 5
  • "Vsyu" = all
  • "u menya" = I have
  • "on qospodin tvoy" = he is your lord
  • "Seqodnya" = today
  • "Otkrıta" = open
  • "tolko" = such
  • "dlya" = for
  • "videt" = he sees
  • "Zaçem" = why
  • "tı xoçeş" = you want

The first three paragraphs are clearly not Russian, but all the dialog is. Cbdorsett 07:29, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Israel Compression

BaktarShikan3.JPG

edit

Hi KIZILSUNGUR, there seemed to be a problem with copyright tags on your BaktarShikan3 image on the English HJ-8 article. The image was catalogued for speedy deletion. I have fixed it using the "PD-user - a statement intended to release a particular user's own work into public domain by a Wikipedian" tag. I do not know whether it will work or not. If it works then it is fine. If it does not then you will have to remove the file from Wikimedia Commons, as over there you can not use an image under fair use rationale. I do not have permission to remove it. You will have to do that. You can publish this image as your own work using the following tags:

Attribution - The copyright holder allows anyone to use it for any purpose, provided that the copyright holder is properly attributed.

or you can use:

Public domain — a statement intended to release a contributor's own work into public domain

Have a nice day

Non-free image fair use rationale

edit

In reply to your message on Ugen64's talk page regarding Image:F-22 Lightning III Game Nuclear Strike.jpg: the trouble with this image was it was a non-free image with no fair use rationale, which made it liable for deletion (you need both).

I have now added a fair-use rationale and replaced the existing image with a lower-resolution version. Thanks, CaNNoNFoDDaTalk 20:52, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:F-16 AMRAAM Fired!.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:F-16 AMRAAM Fired!.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:15, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Python simple GUI sample

edit

Hello, thanks for the contribution to the Python article. However, you image seems inappropriate for me (JPEG compression distortion), I feel I'm going to remove it soon. I think it makes no sense to have multiple images with the code sample. I think one is enough. The code should be written as a text. Aditionally, your GUI is really not a GUI, because it is not functional. However, I have learnt something from you image.. it's the fact that it's not bug to write "from module import*" (without the space) :). However, for clarity it should be written with the space. So keep contributing, but please keep on mind that the article should look like an encyclopedic entry. Mykhal 20:02, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Loves from Türkiye to Czech Republic ;)
Anyway... But it is a very simple GUI. I made it 'cause I wanted to show how we can start to make GUI with Python. But it is OK. You are right.
Take care of yourself

So I was not alone with my opinion, as you can see in Python article history, someone else removed your image sooner as I expected.. But feel free to create a new section in Python talking about the included GUI capabilities (mentioning that in includes Tcl/Tk libraries) or something similar, which would have more information value. Have a nice evening. Mykhal 20:14, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Vurulma Anım.JPG.

Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:09, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Python and GUI

edit

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Python and GUI, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Speedy deletion of Kızılsungur Defender

edit

A tag has been placed on Kızılsungur Defender requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ninety:one 21:24, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:Kızılsungu® Defender.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Kızılsungu® Defender.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 16:39, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Kadıköy Dock.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Kadıköy Dock.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear.
