Hip-Hop in the Academy edit

Hello! edit

Hey! I'm not in your class but I am in a hip hop studies class this term and think this is a great idea for an article! You've probably interacted with Can't Stop Won't Stop (book), Tricia Rose's Black Noise, and possibly Michael Jeffries' Thug Life, all of which are really interesting examples of academic text, albeit to varying degrees. It looks like you've also looked into the teaching of hip hop and hip hop culture at the collegiate level (very meta, honestly, given what we're both doing right now!). Have you heard of Professor Brian 'Raydar' Ellis at Berklee? He organizes the school's J Dilla ensemble and teaches what are seemingly more "practical" or at least more hands-on courses in hip hop culture--e.g. the techniques involved in rapping, beat-making, scratching, etc. He's a performer so it'd be interesting to consider how approaches to hip hop culture in the classroom can vary so wildly from school to school and professor to professor. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this article continues to develop and I'd be more than happy to help in any way I can!

P.S. I noticed that you've cited the same sources multiple times so far in the article--did you know that you can group references together using named footnotes? It's really easy! Take a look at the instructions I linked and let me know if you have any trouble :) Best of luck with your project! Fisheriesmgmt (talk) 15:08, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
