File permission problem with File:InglewoodLibrary1950.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:InglewoodLibrary1950.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 18:22, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Greetings, I am not sure how to proceed. This photograph is part of the Inglewood Public Library's historical collection, some of which are on our website, and all openly available at http://www.oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/kt9g5029q0/ (the online archive of California, a UC project which gave us the grant to digitize the originals.) I am in charge of digital resources for the library and am fully authorized to use them, so I will send a letter from my work e-mail to that effect. Do I have to do this for each photo or can I submit a blanket letter for the entire collection, which we eventually want to put up? Thanks. Joel J. Rane (talk) 18:35, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hey, I can help with this... you can definitely do a blanket permission (assuming you will upload purely from this account). Just send a copy of the text below with the relevant details filled in to info-en-c@wikimedia.org (this is not quite the correct address but I can keep an eye out and expedite it for you). Please send it from a work account for verification :)
I hereby assert that I am the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of the work uploaded under the Wikipedia account Jsmog.
I agree to publish that work under the free license [ CHOOSE AT LEAST ONE FROM THIS PAGE: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Choosing_a_license#Common_free_licenses — THIS DECLARATION IS NOT VALID UNLESS YOU FILL SOMETHING IN HERE ].
I acknowledge that I grant anyone the right to use the work in a commercial product, and to modify it according to their needs, as long as they abide by the terms of the license and any other applicable laws.
I am aware that I always retain copyright of my work, and retain the right to be attributed in accordance with the license chosen. Modifications others make to the work will not be claimed to have been made by me.
I am aware that the free license only concerns copyright, and I reserve the option to take action against anyone who uses this work in a libelous way, or in violation of personality rights, trademark restrictions, etc.
I acknowledge that I cannot withdraw this agreement, and that the work may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project.

- Cheers. --Errant (chat!) 21:14, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
Greetings...thanks for the advice. I'd like to change all the references to "I" to our library...we are the copyright holder, not myself personally, and I hope that in years to come the library will still benefit from having our collection on Wikipedia. Thanks! Joel J. Rane (talk) 04:51, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, that's fine :) --Errant (chat!) 05:50, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
Hello!
editNice edit here. Just wanted to stop by and say hello and welcome. I also enjoy researching (local) historic buildings and I've written around a dozen articles on them. Let me know if you need anything. :-) Killiondude (talk) 18:39, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Greetings...are you in the Inglewood area? We are just starting to do a historic survey of the city, hopefully in preparation for a protective ordinance. I'm also trying to get a wider audience for our photograph collection. Joel J. Rane (talk) 19:54, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
I would love to attend to learn and acquire knowledge about wikipedia. Has the last week in Oct set now or still pending? please contact me at pappynson@gmail.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pappynson (talk • contribs) 08:59, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
I'd like to attend. What are you planning? Yours, GeorgeLouis (talk) 23:11, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- Pardon me for butting in on this section, but I'm also interesting in attending. Has the date been determined yet? --Olegkagan (talk) 05:47, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
- Greetings! I will keep you posted; I'm waiting to hear about the date in October, and what kinds of activities we might do. We have wifi throughout the Library and also in our 200-seat auditorium. A vague plan is to have Wikipedians come in, maybe work on a page for the Library (there isn't one) but also talk about Wikipedia to the students from the high school across the street and their teachers?
Joel J. Rane (talk) 20:32, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Hello. I am a graduate of "that school across the street," and I keep an eagle eye on Inglewood, California, I suggest you have the students check out that page as well. I also did Ku Klux Klan in Inglewood, California, as well as Gladys Waddingham. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 22:52, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Joel, I am curious whether you have any news to report. I also have contacts with a library in Southern California (the Reagan Library), so any guidance you can give me about your plans would help me ensure there are no conflicts, if it gets to that point. :-) Dominic·t 20:25, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Let's fix a date! We have an auditorium that seats 200 with wi-fi and a projector available. My suggested dates are in the last week of October, the 24th-27th or Saturday, the 29th. I will make the whole week "South Bay Wikipedia Week" at our library... Joel J. Rane (talk) 23:32, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, great. It's looking like we can do Saturday the 22nd at the Reagan Library. Hopefully that will help build momentum for yours, rather than detracting from it. (And hopefully you can make it!) Dominic·t 17:34, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what my schedule will look like at that time, but I'm going to try to make it to at least one of those. --Olegkagan (talk) 01:43, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Sounds like great progress, Joel. Can you make a starter page with your preliminary event details at Wikipedia:Meetup/LA/5?--Pharos (talk) 19:44, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Hi! We now have a meetup page (I moved it to fall into the Los Angeles sequence) at Wikipedia:Meetup/Los_Angeles_5 -- the date is tentatively 24 October (Monday) in the evening. - Joel J. Rane (talk) 18:05, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

editHi Joel, how did the meetup on the 24th go? --Olegkagan (talk) 05:44, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Not very well...no one showed up. Joel J. Rane (talk) 03:32, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- Oh man, sorry to hear about that. I'd like to try to connect you with some other LA editors by email if that works, and maybe establish a better user talk page mailing list. BTW, did you see about the LGBT-focused WLL event in LA?--Pharos (talk) 20:55, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- Not good, Joel. But we can do better. My email is lifeinoleg@gmail.com, let's try to make this thing happen in-library or not. If we can get five librarian editors in Los Angeles in the same room we'll have a start (we're two already. Pharos, are you local?).
- P.S. - Re. "LGBT-focused WLL event in LA" that should happen/continue/happen again at my library. I work at the West Hollywood Library which boasts a very nice LGBT collection. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Olegkagan (talk • contribs) 17:16, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
editHi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:14, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Dear Jsmog, You're invited to a zoom call, taking place on February 11, with the goal of improving the article on Los Angeles to Featured article status! I often find it daunting to approach the Big Subjects on my own—so if you, like me, want a time to sit down with fellow dedicated editors and tackle something important and complex, this is the zoom for you! I, unfortunately, have no way to transmit snacks over zoom; but I trust you to exercise good judgement and discretion in selecting snacks of your own. Hope to see you there—if you're interested, add your name here! theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 00:19, 10 January 2022 (UTC) To opt out of future mailings about LA meetups, please remove your name from this list. |
