Welcome! edit

Hello, JohnRHughes, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:32, 1 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi JohnRHughes. Welcome to Wikipedia. I have posted the above for your reference based upon your post at User talk:Oshwah#Account Block. The above posts contains links that yo might find helpful when trying to figure out how to edit Wikipedia. Just so you know, if you have any type of professional or personal connection to Ruby Karp, Wikipedia considers you to have a conflict of interest with respect to anything about her found on Wikipedia. Although conflict-of-interest editing is not expressly prohibited per se, it is something which is highly discourage because it can quickly lead to serious problems. So, if any of this applies to you, please also take a look at Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide and WP:COIADVICE. Having a conflict of interest does not mean you can never edit the relevant article(s), but there are certain guidelines the Wikipedia community has established to ensure that such editing does not get out-of-hand. Adhering to these guidelines is the best way to avoid issues with other editors. If, by chance, you are being compensated for your contributions in anyway, then it's very important that you carefully read Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure and follow it to the letter because it you do not it can lead to your account being blocked by an adminstrator.
If none of the above applies to you, then you still might want to take a look at some of the linked pages anyway because they content other useful information which you might find helpful. Finally, regardless of whether you have a COI, you should take a look at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons if you're planning on editing article about living individuals. This is one of Wikipedia's most important policies and it's quite easy to run afoul of if you're not careful. Furthermore, you should also familiarize yourself with WP:BIO, WP:ENT and WP:AUTHOR for information on how Wikipedia typically assesses the Wikipedia notability of individuals such as Karp. Wikipedia notability (or lack thereof) is one of the main reasons articles are deleted, so it's important to know what kind of criteria are used to determine whether a person is Wikipedia notable. Karp looks to be Wikipedia notable at first glance, but any article can technically be nominated for deletion at anytime by anyone, so you can never have enough citations to solid sources. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:55, 1 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
