Edits to Futurism

Hi @JoTemp, Ceiap: I checked out your edits to the Futurism article. Lengthy quotes are generally discouraged on Wikipedia. You should only use quotes when the precise wording significantly improves the reader's understanding, and even then, it should generally be less than than 5-8 words. The use of copyright content on Wikipedia needs to be kept to a minimum. I suggest you go back and remove the quotes, and summarize in your own words the information presented by that source. Thank you, Brianda! I agree that the quotes should be reduced and/or paraphrased. Any tips for @JoTemp for quoting documents that are over a century old? Ceiap (talk) 01:53, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

@Ceiap That's a great question. Generally speaking, editors should focus on summarizing information from secondary sources about the topic in their own words, and not use primary sources. I can't access the source that @JoTemp cited bc it links to Proquest and not the actual document, BUT if it is a primary source, my suggestion is to find a scholarly article that addresses that specific topic and summarize the content.

If they want to add a quote, then they could make a separate contribution to Wikiquote that is a collection of quotes from notable people. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:12, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
