Bible version

Hi. I really like the bibleverse template. A very nice tool, and thank you for using it. But I wonder, is it necessary to specify the version? Preferences can be set by the user, if you don't. • Having not really worked with Talk pages much, I hope this is the right place to reply! I have pondered this myself... It ISN'T necessary to specify the version, and the default will be shown (KJV I think?). From my view, the reason for the various versions was partially because in Jewish-related documents, it is of particular interest to be able to open a source in Hebrew or, better, parallel Hebrew-English. It may nonetheless be useful elsewhere.
  I'm not sure what you mean by a user preference. Maybe, yes, a preferable solution would be to open a page with a list of applicable sources for choice (annoying because I then have to keep a register of which sources are OT only, NT only, include or don't include Apocrypha, Pseudepigraphia, etc, but surely possible; also because the current list of sources is fairly unwieldly and would need to be sorted and categorised for end-user use), but I don't really want people to require the middle page. An extension of this could have a cookies-based preference for source (with the limitations of my hosting the script, I cannot have more than client-side prefs).
  A further extension, although one likely to annoy many users, could include a frame at the top of the opened page giving alternative versions, but of course some of the current version options have this for a limited selection already. It would certainly be frustrating if the user was presented with a list and was not able to set a preference for default: some articles include many citations, and it would be annoying to have to select the source for each one opened. Certainly an original purpose of the script was to speed the process of finding the cited verse (and to interpret the citation).

As for my question, I would think that for those Bible sites that use cookies for client-side preferences, the script might allow that cookie to be used rather than force the selection of a default version. Most Bible sites already have a drop-list for selecting versions, if the cookie-default isn't the one you want, after all. Hebrew Alphabet

Hi! I was looking at the different articles on the different Hebrew letters, and realized that it would be really great if they followed the same format. I jotted down my idea and tried it out with Aleph and Bet here. Check it out and tell me if you think I should start working on the rest of the alphabet. Your comments will be appreciated! • • First of all, Shanah Tovah! Hope you had good holidays and an easy fast. Finally, I can stop missing school. Anyway, the pictures on the Hebrew Wikipedia (like [[1]]) are perfect - they have torah script, rashi script, cursive, everything. But, can we take them from there (Hebrew Wiki) or do they have to be uploaded to commons? And, I do like the basic infobox, and I don't think the other infobox that you suggested is neccesary. After all, that's basically what's in the article, in a box. And as for the chupchiks, I think that's it; I'm not sure about the dalet - I don't know what sound it makes - and the /θ/ sound I've usually seen is a Tav with a chupchik, not a Tet, but again, im not sure. I'll ask my cousin this Shabbat (she's Israeli). But everything looks good, and I really need to go to sleep because I'm exhausted from the fast and I have school tomorrow, so I'm signing off now... You're welcome, I enjoyed making my first infobox =P You might be right with the tav thing; it would be more sensible, but something has scarred me since my childhood in a way that I always get these confused in terms of their use as "th". Thanx for the corrections! I was very tired, and the problem was i was now writing it all on my own, as opposed to rewriting the information from the page, as i did with Bet. I do know the difference 'tween shuruk and holam male; i had just put the pronunciation under the wrong heading. And you're right, it isn't a dagesh, but it's not a mapiq either, so i'm not sure what to call it other than 'dot'. Ok, now i get what you mean in 3 but am not sure what you mean exactly to put it. The same with 6 and 7; I don't know how I could explain thiose withoout getting into grammer, which is not what i want to do. And as for 8, does that mean in Arabic, say, vav is just vav, not v, oo, and oh? And that mater lectiones bit... im not sure what that is either... I got to go, but thanx for the correction. You seem to be better at this pronunciation thing than me; I was wondering if you could help me with the pronunciation sections, since you will probably correct it anyway. I'm working on Heth now, and I'm not sure about pronunciation. What is the difference between Heth and Kaph in terms of IPA or whatever? How else is Heth pronounced?
