Source for Image:Fplc seal.jpg

edit

I added a fair use rationale for this image, but I'm unsure of exactly what to put as the source. As the original uploader, would you mind expanding that portion of the rationale a bit? Also, anything you can add as additional information to strengthen the fair use claim would be appreciated. Thanks. --Pekaje 16:00, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I've since realized I'd rather upload a transparent gif of this image which would look better on the gray background of the law school info box template. Unfortunately, the new file has a different extension, which changes the file name and now this particular image is orphaned. Can you help me to delete the JPG image now that it is not used? --JMcCrory 20:17, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Fplc logo.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Fplc logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:12, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I would like to remind you that Wikipedia does not accept images licensed with permission to only Wikipedia. A large part of our effort is to allow for derivative works (such as paper versions and both offline and online mirrors). Therefore images should either be freely licensed (one of the licenses shown here, with an confirmation email sent to OTRS), or be marked as non-free and have a detailed rationale explaining why it qualifies as fair use. I'll be happy to provide any assistance you should need in order to make the images conform to our non-free content critera. Just ask on this page or on my talk page. --Pekaje 18:57, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I have updated the image page to attempt to meet the criteria of your policy. Please let me know if there is remaining information I ought to provide. --John McCrory 20:03, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Is the seal available somewhere online, so it's easy to verify that it's actually the official seal? I tried looking on the website earlier, but couldn't find it. Also, I think that in keeping with the minimal use requirement of the NFCC, only one identifying image is needed for the school (my preference would be for the seal, others use either seal or logo). In fact, that's what more or less every school has in its infobox. Additionally, the Franklin Pierce Law Center article needs to use the standard law school infobox (I'm guessing you were the anonymous user who changed it back). This is so that changes to the style can apply evenly on all such pages. I could update it with those extra optional parameters, if need be, but the infobox needs to be templated. Finally, if the JPEG version of the seal is no longer to be used, you can tag it for deletion with {{db-author}} or {{isd|Fplc seal.gif}}. --Pekaje 21:20, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Again, thanks for the help. The seal is available online, on the home page of the Pierce Law Review, one of the law journals we publish. One of our students initiated the addition of the info box; I'll work with him to make sure it gets changed to the standard law school info box template. I tagged the JPEG version of the seal for speedy deletion as you suggested. -- John McCrory 14:47 12 September 2007 (UTC)
I think it looks good now. I implemented quite a few changes to the infobox template and added substantial documentation, though the only thing you'll likely care about is that I added the optional "motto" parameter. Since you seem to know a bit about the subject, is there anything else you think might be useful for an infobox for law schools in general? --Pekaje 15:44, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Creative artists who have served time in prison

edit

The page Creative artists who have served time in prison is an interesting list. It seems like it might be better suited as a category. This would reduce the editing required to add an individual, since the category page (list) would be automatically updated by adding a single category line to the person's page. It would also eliminate the need for a "See also" section on the person's page when only a link to the list exists. Instead the link would appear with the other categories. The categories could be as follows.

Parent category:

  • People who have served time in prison

Subcategories:

  • Musicians who have served time in prison
  • Visual artists who have served time in prison
  • Writers who have served time in prison
