Hello! I was re-reading the Thomas de Veil page and found a couple more possible articles that could be added to wikipedia: one would be on William Wreathock, the leader of the Wreathock gang, and another one could be on trading justices. Possible page to improve : Molly house

I had a look to the page dedicated to Molly houses and I thought it could be improved in terms of structure, notes and form. I don't know if it's entirely consistent with our work, I just thought it could be worth improving since homosexual behaviour (or, actually, anything conforming to the Buggery Act 1533 in general) seemed to be often severely prosecuted and molly houses could have been the scene of frequent arrests.--Pbord (talk) 17:17, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

Good afternoon, I have a question about possible sources. The Old Bailey Online proposes as introductory reading this book: Faller, L. B., Turned to Account: The Forms and Functions of Criminal Biography in Late Seventeenth- and Early Eighteenth-Century England (Cambridge, 1987). It's not in the library and I don't remember to have seen it in the list of sources. Could you possibly have it? Or do you know where I could find it? Thank you in advance! Doubt on the exact date of William Spiggot's death

Hello, I am uncertain about the exact date of his death. On the Ordinary's Account of the 8th february it says talking about Spiggot "on Monday, February 9, before the Execution" and then it says "on the Wednesday Morning, he again receiv'd the Sacrament in the Chapel, from whence he was immediately after, carry'd to the place of Execution". Therefore I deduce that he was executed on the 11th, the Wednesday. But in the book Tales of the Hanging Court (cf references) it says that he was executed on the 8th (the Sunday). I am a bit confuse and I don't know which date is correct. What would you say? Thank you. JMChaleat (talk) 17:25, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello, I'm writing because I have some questions:

- I've noted that in 'Footpad' talkpage a user has deleted some extra informations pointing out: "Please note that all streets in London were considered "highways" in previous times, so while a footpad may have been a highway robber, he'd still be an urban criminal." I only wrote that both highwaymen and footpads were used robbing on the "King's Highway", the major street were commercial exchanges took place. This information is taken from The Georgian Underworld by Rictor Norton, http://rictornorton.co.uk/gu09.htm Do you think it is a reliable source or I have to wrote a response of excuse?

I mentioned this on Monday: In 1719 (RS) the second transportation Act declared that all the streets of London were to be considered highways under the statue of 1692, a measure to encourage prosecutions for attacks perpetrated in lanes and courts My source for this was Shoemaker's essay on Street robbers (which I have uploaded onto ISA materials); please read and check his sources.

Bloody Code

I believe that the books recommended on my talk page either does not exist (Beattie), or is located in Torino (Davison) according to my search on SBN. Perhaps there is a better way to look for the books, or a way for interlibrary loans as you suggested. As an exchange student(and I am fully aware that this really shouldn't be an excuse), I am experiencing some problems with locating the libraries, not to mention the individual books. Thomas de Veil

I do apologize, I thought my talk page was in the watch list! The Thomas de Veil article has been accepted an hour ago, and I'm now trying to structure the years between 1729 and 1746. • There is no problem, I redirected the link to the Thomas de Veil page not too long ago and, generally, only just realized the draft had been accepted! However, I do have a problem: I can't read the Thomas de Veil page on the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography anymore. • I'm sorry, I have a doubt. Before moving to Leicester Fields, he was a political lobbyist with an office in Great Scotland Yard: that's what the memoirs say. I have a couple of questions regarding the Thomas de Veil page. The first one is a detail, but I just can't find out the answer: while I know that, usually, you would just keep piling up the titles, I'm not sure if it's the same with Esq. Are you still an Esquire if you get knighted? • Hello, sorry for answering so late! Someone from the course did offer some very useful suggestions which I am now trying to implement, though it is taking me a while to actually come up with the ideal way to proceed: I am trying to see if I should put a new section with Thomas de Veil's most important cases, and, if so, how should I do it- should I make a brief list, describe them very briefly, go into detail? This choice is taking me perhaps too much time, for which I apologize, but, since I would also want to ask for a peer review, I'd prefer for it to be as good as possible. Another suggestion was also that of uploading some pictures, which I'm definitely going to do. Regarding Hans de Veil and Jonathan Swift, whenever I look for the essay it is listed under Swift's name, though then I can't find it in his list of works: I assume it's because it is a very minor work, but I am not sure. The essay itself, Thomas de Veil's biography, and two articles of the time list both Hans de Veil and Jonathan Swift as authors, so I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt: if you believe I shouldn't, please let me know!
