Thanks for fixing that problem the other day Gnangarra 00:17, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Whether they want it there or not, its there and its a sufficiently notiable event that its inclusion within the article is warranted. Besides its a tribute to not only the victims but to the people of Perth who assisted with aftermath. My vague often proven wrong memory is that there was controversy before it was built but since I dont recall anything. If there is maybe that should be noted within the article. If you want to play around, that's why the sandbox is there. If you choose to use articlespace for nonsense, then be aware your article may be speedily deleted. There is alreay a perfectly good article on rats (I've read it and I know) that already discusses what you want to say. Denni talk 00:53, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Significantly different to the problem thats occured with OA as the OA was more about recent exploitation of the animal as an movie character as opposed to long held historical cultural references. I would think that the article could still have a place as. Gnangarra 01:40, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I realise Im not up with the format properly yet. I am trying to get as much down before I forget it and come back later to fix it all up as I work out how to do things properly. I am trying to look at the edited text on other pages to see how to do things properly.

Maybe if there was a template page somewhere which could be cut and pasted to new pages to get going better, this would help - do you know of one?

Did I tell you i created this? Krakatoa now looks lovely. :-) I could get used to this create-a-pop-culture-page thing.

Tellingly (and thus for me quite humourously), there has been no sign of that guy pushing the pop culture section in Orang hutan.

By the way, look at my diffs on Krakatoa [1]. How did those ET and Byron Soames and 'Pralappe' sections get through? There is nothing on Google. Should i contact the editor? He is a regualar contributor. [2] NutsMerbabu 03:40, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

edit

In response to the message you left at User:thewinchester's page:

With messages like this - (a) remind that sandbox is the area to create articles if they dont want speedy deletion (B) remind them of WP:Civility (c) if they persist or start using emotive language - never respond - pass on to admins User:SatuSuro 22:58, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was unable to determine who you were adressing. User thewinchester is the individual who called me a "moron". I merely quoted what he had called me and used it as a header on his/her discussion page. I think it is in particularly bad form to hurl insults at other editors and call names, especially for such trivial things my inability to get my stub "up to his or her standard" five minutes after I created the stub.

I am also aware of how to use the sandbox. However, I often complete the article and save it directly before adding my sources and references and pictures (when I use them). While I understand that it is probably much better to finish this before saving the article, I simply work better this way. I simply took issue with being called a "moron" and a somewhat protracted goading minutes after completion of the article to bring it up to his/her standard.

One can get a point across without being abrasive. ExRat 02:26, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ecology of Banksia

edit

No need to apologise. This article is supposed to have an Australian perspective. The occasional section is WA-centric, but that is because I wrote it, and I am guilty of being a one-eyed West Australian. Hopefully once the article is finished it will be suitably balanced.

I've tagged all the WA species of Banksia into the WA project, but left Banksia, Taxonomy of Banksia, Ecology of Banksia, etc, out, because they are supposed to have an Australia-wide perspective.

Hope that makes sense.

I responded at AIV (your post may end up getting removed, as it's not totally clear cut). Took another look and if he reinserts the edit today I can block him for 3RR as well as semi-protecting. Please don't hesitate to call my attention to it personally if I miss something. I have a very low tolerance for the type of attack he posted at User:Gnangarra. Just to help me out, what is the issue exactly? My read is that one, now hotly disputed, 18th century writer said that the aborigine's practiced canabalism? And he is re-inserting it for avowedly racist reasons? Let me know if my read is wrong, as I know very little about this particular history. Cheers. Dina 16:32, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's a difficult problem (which would disappear the moment anonymous editing did), which has landed me before the ArbCom before. See Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Gundagai editors for how I've dealt with the matter in times past. I recommened other avenues of dispute resolution first, but as your editor shows little interest in playing by any rules, so be it. The ArbCom may very well be interested. -- Longhair\talk 05:23, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't envy your position. It tooks me (us) months before the behaviour was stamped upon. Now the ArbCom has a precedent to work with, it may not be a long wait at all. Another topic you may wish to review is Wikipedia:Disruptive editing. -- Longhair\talk 05:30, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tasmania/Hobart WikiProject

edit

Sorry I've been out of touch for a few days! What I was hoping would happen, is that WP Hobart would be moved/renamed to WP Tasmania, and the scope extended the same - from just the city Hobart to all of Tasmania. I think that doubling up with two projects would be a bit too much for somewhere the size of Tasmania. Once it is moved, if you want to re-format the pages that is no problem! -- Chuq 00:54, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've just made the required changes to {{WP Australia}} to reflect the necessary changes for WP:TAS. -- Longhair\talk 02:03, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hehe. How dare you insist I ignore messages :) Some just require my attention quickly, others can wait I'm sure... :) -- Longhair\talk 02:06, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sometimes when editors get themselves in knots, it's best to leave them, for they work out the issues themselves. That worked out ok didn't it, or should I give the matter a looksee? :) -- Longhair\talk 02:11, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
The WP:TAS redlinks (in appropriate places) await your initial edits ;) -- Longhair\talk 02:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh, one more thing. Every talk page previously tagged with hobart=yes has automatically worked itself into your relevant WP:TAS category. I call it wiki-magic ;) -- Longhair\talk 02:16, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
cj and Longhair seem to be in agreement, so I will move the page(s) now! -- Chuq 02:25, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I guess the main things are re-arranging things on the proj pages themselves, and fixing links to the proj page. Most of the 'links to' will from the {{WP Australia}} links on the top of talk pages, these could be changed with a bot. The first thing I was going to do was to start a 'related changes' page under the proj page, so if you want to tackle anything else apart from that then go for it! -- Chuq 02:35, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm happy to help with the transition, and with linking articles :) Satu and I are becoming project veterans I think! Orderinchaos78 11:48, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Satu. Can you provide comment here [3] on templates that have been put into the Indoensia presidential and VP biographies - if you can. Please read my comments. While I think the new templates are good (complete and they look much nicer compared to the other) we can't have two templates and compared to the existing, the new ones lose the chronological order and do not show the president at the time.Merbabu 02:31, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Statoid

edit

I checked out the statoid issue. Seemed like a silly argument over semantics. Which is correct? "January 2 is, after January 1, the second day of the year"; or "January 2 is, after January 1, the first day of the year". I think I'll leave discussions like that to the anons; I don't intend to sully my hands with that kind of nonsense unless it becomes disruptive.

List of

edit

I don't know. It seems that the FLC only consists of comments. More appropriate to be placed in the article's talk page. I thought that a WP:LIST article focuses more on the list, not in the written part which only a small fraction. For me, I appreciate more Caniago's comment on the factual data, rather than nitpicking on the prose. Honestly, I don't know what is the high standard of prose for Wikipedia. It's the only criterion I hate for. An encyclopaedia should give a clear understanding to a common reader, isn't it? It is not about writing prose for grant proposal or your thesis. Damned! Hey, btw, why do you wake up so late tonight? It is not yet new year eve in Australia isn't it? hehehe. — Indon (reply) — 17:22, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Happy New Year

edit

And happy new year to you too! I monitor Category:Unassessed rail transport articles on a daily basis, rating articles as they are added there. The grading scheme is described in Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Assessment#Instructions; while the quality ratings are pretty uniform across projects, the key with the importance rating for the {{TrainsWikiProject}} banner is to consider the subject's importance to rail transport history and technology on a worldwide scale. While the overwhelming majority of the ratings that I've assigned have been accepted by the community, I don't consider myself the ratings gatekeeper (I'm just the editor who's been doing most of them for WP:TWP), and a few of my assessments have been overruled by other editors.

As a quick aside, when there aren't any suggestions for the Trains portal Did you know section, I look in the unassessed category to find new articles that would be suitable for that section, like I did today. Slambo (Speak) 18:57, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Happy new year to you too! I've been having fun editing an article for a US boyband that is up for AfD.
