Emily Smith Photograph
editHi there, thanks for your message regarding changing the photograph on the Emily Smith article. All content used on Wikipedia must not be subject to copyright restrictions and must be released under an acceptable free license. Please see Wikipedia:Image use policy and the list of acceptable free image licenses. Looking at Emily's official website, on the resources page, from which your preferred image is accessed, there is a request to "please credit Archie MacFarlane" in respect of the images. I'm assuming that he is the photographer and probably retains copyright on the images. In this case he would have to explicitly confirm his agreement to release the images for use on Wikipedia under one of the acceptable free image licenses. Or it may be that the terms of the photographer's commission transferred copyright to Emily or some other 3rd party (eg manager, record label, publisher etc) upon completion of the work, in which case the relevant copy right holder would have to do the same.
Ultimately, any such permission will have to be recorded in the Wikipedia OTRS System. Please also see here for the procedure specifically relating to media such as image files. Sorry to make this seem complicated, but if the copyright holder permissions are not crystal clear, any such image upload is likely to be challenged and deleted very quickly. If you wish to proceed, I would be happy to help with an exchange of suitable emails with the copyright holder and submit the necessary information to the OTRS system on your behalf. You can leave a message on my talk page or I can be contacted via email by clicking the "Email this user" link in the sidebar to the left on my talk page. I hope this helps. --Cactus.man ✍ 12:49, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
