Proposed deletion of SignUpGenius

edit

The article SignUpGenius has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No references. Does not satisfy software notability guidelines.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Help me

edit

I had my first article flagged for removal; I addressed the concerns, can I remove the flag for deletion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JamesBulas (talkcontribs) 10:21, September 8, 2017 (UTC)

@JamesBulas:, the simple answer is, "Yes, anyone can remove proposed deletion templates." The rest of this message, however, is to explain why you probably don't want remove it from the SignUpGenius article you created.
First of all, there is good reason to believe that you are associated with the company in question. By editing the company's article without formally disclosing this link, you are (I'm sure inadvertently) violating Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines and policies. These policies are part of the Terms of Use you agreed to when you created your account. You should read, understand, and follow the Guide to Managing Conflicts of Interest before making any further edits to the SignUpGenius article.
Secondly, you should also read the guideline for notability for software and the guideline for notability for companies. The references you added do technically make the article now ineligible for the proposed deletion process. That said, it would likely just be referred to the regular deletion process in its current state. Of the three links you added, one is a simple software profile, and the other two are routine business blurbs. "Notability" is a slightly different concept here in wiki-land than it is in regular English. In our case, "notability" means three things: significant coverage in publications or media that are independent of the article subject and in places that have a proven record of journalistic reliability. If there were to be a discussion about this article and those sources, the significance of those sources would undoubtedly be challenged. The end result of removing the proposed deletion template would still likely be deletion, in other words, unless there is significant improvement.
Where does that leave you? Well, first of all, you need to clarify the possibility of a conflict of interest. Secondly, you can use the article talk page to request changes and to add further reference that other editors can add to the article to demonstrate its notability. If the article is deleted, you can use the article draft space to create a newer version that shows notability and then allow other users to review it.
I hope this helps. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 15:52, 8 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Eggishorn: Thank you very much for the clear response! And, yes, I am inadvertently violating Wikipedia's conflict of interest and policies, so I'm not going to make any more edits. Thanks again! - JamesBulas

Speedy deletion nomination of SignUpGenius

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on SignUpGenius requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
