United Development Party edit

Hi there. I've seen all the new infomartion you've added to the article. It's great. But what are your sources? Are you getting this from the web? Books? Newspapers? It is important to thoroughly. I know many articles don't, but they should. I also know its not an exciting job, so please let me know if i can help format some of the references you provide. Please let us know what your sources are. kind regards --Merbabu 23:44, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

thanks for your reply. I did actually tag some of those articles you mentioned with an ((references)) tag. Not as criticism but because some "wiki nazis" will delete anything they see without citations. Personally, i think it is better to have uncited material than no material as long as it is acknowledged as uncited material.
You got me interested - you say you write from memory of say mid 90's politics - so you wre were older enough to be politically aware back then - yet you are doing the HSC? In NSW? Are you Indonesian? Your message on my talk page was like a native speaker's. Anyway, although its good to have your contributions, try and keep away for a few months til after the HSC (although it would be wikipedia's loss). Then you have all the time in the world for wikipedia!! he he --Merbabu 01:02, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Indonesian Democratic Party edit

Thanks for the new info to Indonesian Democratic Party. Again, can you please include your sources? This is really important to ensure Wikipedia quality. In-line citations are best. Have a look here: Wikipedia:Citing_sources. regards --Merbabu 05:54, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

PS: it is much easier to do it now than for you or another editor to try later. Ie, you must have your sources near by as you just added all the info. Even if you just add a list into the discussion page, others can format it properly for you. Thanks. --Merbabu 05:56, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

You wrote: Thanks for compliments for the PDI article. It would be great if people can help me format the sources, because the only things I can do is give external links.
Yes, it is fine to help you, but you must provide the details of the sources - others can format it, put it in the right place, etc. We don't know what you used, so please give us book names, or urls, etc. It is best if they can be done "inline", but without the info from you, there is not much we can do. I mean, you must have the sources handy - you have just made the additions in the last hour. --Merbabu 06:14, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I saw the External links you added. Were they what you used for the references? If so, i will move them to a reference section. Thanks - it does help quality. The more you add the better. And if they can be in-line, even better. See Indonesia. regards --Merbabu 06:28, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your edits edit

Good work on the referencing as you go. Many editors think that any additions without sound referencing are useless and should be removed. I don't agree with it to that extreme, but agree that referencing can only improve the article. Keep up the good work!!! --Merbabu 04:46, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Java collaboration edit

hi Jakman. Starting today, the Indonesia Collaboration is Java. Come along and help make this a page worthy of the world’s most magnificent island. There’s a suggested to-do list on the the Talk page to which you can add, or just pick a task. All sorts of tasks are required, Images, Citations, Research, Copy Edit, you name it – this important article needs your help!! regards --Merbabu 08:56, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Supersemar edit

Hi, Thanks for fixing the vandalism to the [[Supersemar] page - I've been a bit busy lately and missed it. Davidelit

  • Oh, OK :-) Interesting to read your articles on the generals involved. By the way, do you have much information on Maj. Gen. Pranoto Reksosamudra? Nobody seems sure how "left" he was, or whether Suharto labelled him a Communist just to get rid of another rival. Davidelit 04:24, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Basuki Rahmat edit

hi. Oh, that was the reason for the grudge. I thought it was because Sukarno wanted to apppint Pranoto as Army chief of staff following G30S and Suharto wanted the job. I read it was Nasution who got Suharto fired from the Diponegoro in 1959, but it's interesting to hear that Pranoto was the snitch! I'll have a look at home later and see if I have anything else on Basuki Rahmat. Cheers. Davidelit 02:26, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Gus Dur edit

Sorry to remove that edit of yours. Don't worry it is still there - you just need to "revert" it (see below). But, wikipedia states that EVERYTHING must be verifiable and the easiest way to do this is to put clear references into the articles (and much easier to do it as we write). Jimbo Wales himself recently has said that quality is far more important than quantity. So while it is great that you've added a large amount of new information, how can we judge the quality of the work if there is no reference? So, why not "revert" your work if you can add the changes in. Steps: 1.Go to the Gus Dur page, and click on the "history" tab next to the edit tab. 2.You should see a list of all the edits. As I type this, yours is the second most recent edit before mine. Click on the date and time of your edit. 3.Note the warning in red. You could now save this page which brings you back to (your) previous edit - but you want to add your references. 4.So put your references in. then click save. 5.Now you should have gone back (reverted) to your edit, but added references. 6.Let me know how it goes. The Barnstar of National Merit

This is for your exceptional contributions to Indonesia-related articles. Great going! -- --Merbabu 13:25, 20 March 2007 (UTC) Reply

Jakman, sorry i took so long to reply your request for me to look at your new article: The President of the Republic of Indonesia. I still haven't had a close look. And, please don't think my late reply means I am not interested. I will try to print it out and read it on the train asap.

More generally speaking, you contributions to wikipedia have been excellent, particularly Indonesian political figures. You have been one of the best contributors lately. Don't think they have gone unnoticed! They are fine contributions that clearly took a lot of work. Have you typed 'Abdurrahman Wahid' into google. he he - see what happens. That result is due to your good work. Remember, google is the most visited site in the world and look where 'your' article is. Your referencing is also excellent. keep it up!!

So please keep up the good work. I noticed that you haven't been around lately. Hope to see you back soon. And don't be afraid to say 'hi' to some of the other Wikiproject Indonesia members, a few of us are often in contact. Merbabu 13:25, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Biographies... edit

DYK: Ali Murtopo edit

Hi. I've nominated Ali Murtopo, an article you worked on, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article at Template talk:Did you know#Articles created on October 1, where you can improve it if you see fit. Thank you for creating this article, Jakman. You've done a good job there. --PFHLai 05:39, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Acting Presidency of Suharto edit

Very nice. Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. I will have a closer look soon. This is the sort of article creation the Indonesia WP project needs. Hope to see you around more! --Merbabu (talk) 07:13, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some more thoughts:

  • An initial suggestion, would be to expand the lead to summarise the main points of the article. With an article of that length, you could do with maybe three or four paragraphs which could be at least as long as the first section "Election to the Acting Presidency". This is actually quite hard to do well. If you start, maybe I can help (PS, one doesn't need to reference again as long as the point is referenced in the main article).
  • Yes, you've done a mighty fine job in referencing. One issue though is that the reference should come after punctuation with no space. See Indonesia. However, given that you have spent so long doing the article, the least I could do would be to fix it for you, so don't worry - let me do it.
  • Also, I notice the first sentence after the lead...
By February 1967, President Sukarno realized that his political career was at an end and he became concerned at cutting his losses. On 7th February, he sent a letter to Suharto saying that he was willing to hand over the running of the Government to the General but also added that he would like to continue on as Head of State [1].
  • ...you have provided a reference at the second sentence - does this include the statement in the first sentence about Sukarno realising his political career was over? Assuming it was in your reference, do we actually know for a fact that that was what Sukarno believed? Or, is that the opinion of the author about the events? (sure, it might be a good opinion, but we should thus represent at his opinion, rather than state that this was Sukarno's actual opinion). Anyway, that's just something I saw in the first sentence. lol.
  • I'll do a couple of changes - such as add a {{reflist|2}} tag, which makes 2 columns.

Katanya kamu "mau pulang kampung ke Jakarta?" Artinya, kamu sekarang di mana? Have fun. --Merbabu (talk) 08:39, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
