DYK
editOkay, so i'm still learning and I don't know if I'm doing this right.....I checked out the Did you Know criteria as well as how to build an article about a novel and there's some interesting info about everything we'll need. If you haven't looked yet, and if you have time before our meeting tomorrow, then give it a glance. See you tomorrow! --Katie322 (talk) 05:34, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
More about DYK
editA reminder that those articles that are eligible for the "Did You Know?" section of the Main Page should be submitted within five days of their creation or first edit. See the DYK rules and this dispatch about DYK.
The important issues are that the article must be no more than five days old (or have been expanded fivefold or more within the last five days), have a minimum of 1,500 characters (around 1.5 kilobytes), and have a "hook" that is cited with an inline citation.
For now, don't worry too much about what's meant by an "inline citation." Once you have the information there, I or others can format it appropriately. But you do need to do some preliminary research and flesh out the article.
Good luck! --jbmurray (talk • contribs) 09:41, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
models
editTo have a sense of what you should be aiming at as you work on your article, you are advised to look at relevant good articles and featured articles. Recent featured articles about novels, for instance, include El Señor Presidente and The General in His Labyrinth. These were written by a UBC class last semester. You may also want to consult the Novels Wikiproject. --jbmurray (talk • contribs) 09:56, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
reminders: regular editing and plan
editTwo reminders, from our project page:
Over the course of the semester, you need to log in and make at least one edit, again however minor, to your article twice a week.
By September 19, each group should have their plan in place, and have written it up on their article's talk page.

Jacqui, I fixed this for now by adding some information (as best I could) and a rationale at the image page. I don't know the source, however. Did you scan it yourself? Or did you get it from some other website? --jbmurray (talk • contribs) 00:26, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, I must have missed something, but yes I got it off of a website where the book was for sale, and I checked out what I was supposed to do at the image use policy page, and added the Non-free use media rationale template with all the required information...I also tagged it as a Non-free book cover licence..so I'm not sure what else I should do. Were you able to check out the file history? That's where all of that info is...but let me know what I should do if that wasn't the correct formating or way to go about it..Thanks! --Jacqui Nicole (talk) 06:07, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
I added the link to the image..--Jacqui Nicole (talk) 00:18, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Marvellous. I also now deleted the duplicate image. --jbmurray (talk • contribs) 00:23, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Can't find the quote
edithey girls! For the first correction that Mike gave us in the Background section, I can't find where the "As one columnist notes" quote is. Maybe I'm overlooking it or someone has corrected it and not checked it off the list. Can you let me know which of these it is so that I can fix it if need be. Thanks! Here's the note on the correction so that you know what I'm talking about (copied from our article's talk page):
"As one columnist notes": you don't always need to mention your sources in this way; inline citations mean that you can simply use the material and leave it to the reader to check the source. You should only use this style of quoting when it's clearly opinion. What you're doing is called "qualifying the source", and here is the guideline on when you need to do it. You do quote a lot of opinion, so you need to do a fair amount of this, it's true. --Katie322 (talk) 01:46, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- FYI, this was in the second sentence of the first section, as you can see for instance from this old version. It's now fixed in the current version. --jbmurray (talk • contribs) 05:15, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
sentence meaning
editOkay, so I guess I meant that Clemencia sought revenge on behalf of La Malinche, but you're right...she wouldn't have been thinking about revenge FOR La Malinche. I'll take a look at it and find some way to re-word it. thanks! --Katie322 (talk) 22:12, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- oh, and great work with the characters section! It looks awesome with the new lay-out! I just mentioned to Esmeralda that we probably shouldn't be adding any more quotations unless we absolutely have to. Paraphrases are fine, but we keep getting knocked about how many quotations we have. Okay, lots of work to do! haha, good luck! --Katie322 (talk) 22:25, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
The mysterious quote of Ixchel
editIn the section for Ixchel in characters, there is a mysterious quotation that has an end and no beginning...could you add the quotation marks for where it starts? Thanks! Sorry about the title heading, haha...I was getting bored. :P --Katie322 (talk) 20:54, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
Oh, and same with the section on Lucy. --Katie322 (talk) 22:48, 12 November 2008 (UTC) got it!--Jacqui Nicole (talk) 03:29, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Plot summary section
editHey Jacqui! Check out the revised plot summary section that Brian has posted on our GA edit page. He's tried to improve the organization for those who haven't actually read the book, and I think that it works out well...still our own words, just different structure. Also, I don't understand what this sentence means in the 5th paragraph of the plot summary: "However, unlike the wailing woman, end her life and that of her children’s in destruction, she finds two women, Felice and Graciela, who help her escape back to Mexico." Am I missing something? Maybe I've spent too long in front of the computer screen! haha. --Katie322 (talk) 23:59, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Hey Katie...nope it's me:) I think I was looking at the computer too long...I reworded it..let me know if it makes sense (Im comparing the was that Cleófilas saved her life as opposed to the way the llorona ended hers) hmmm maybe its not clear...anyways let me know! --Jacqui Nicole (talk) 00:23, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Hmmmm...still looks the same. Is it me this time? or maybe you made the edit, and then copied and pasted Brian's suggested organization overtop, which would leave it the same as before? Not sure what happened. --Katie322 (talk) 06:42, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Woman Hollering Creek - GA review
editI have answered your outstanding question on the talk page. Later today I will complete the review, as all issues now seem to be settled. Brianboulton (talk) 10:03, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Hey Jacqui! Brian said that we only had to address his question to the characters section (namely, an introductory sentence) and then he would submit the GA nomination. So I added an introductory sentence and then switched the character order so that it goes Lucy, Ixchel, Chaq, Inés, Cleófilas, Clemencia, and Chayo. This way it shows characters from the first three sections and then the female archetypes (which is how the order is laid out in the introductory sentence). Let me know what you think, and you're welcome to change it if need be. --Katie322 (talk) 00:00, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
