Overuse of refconverter

Unreflective use of refconverter is causing many problems, and in many cases actively harming Wikipedia. The tool is nice to have—in fact, it's the impetus for me creating my own "Citation Tool" (still alpha). But it is nice to have to aid editors who are actually involved in editing a specific article, and who have reached consensus about making a given type of change to an existing article. Unfortunately, the semi-bot is largely being used to make "drive by 'improvements'" to articles where editors either have not considered the citation style, or where they have actively decided on something different from what the tool produces. This is extremely disrespectful to other Wikipedia editors, and a gross violation of process.

I have not looked at your specific changes made using the semi-bot, but I strongly recommend that you follow a guideline along the lines of: "Use this tool only after consensus for a change has been reached on the talk page of the article to which it is applied!"

You may also want to take a look at User:Evilphoenix/ref conversion. This is a sketch of an RfC that may be filed to try to resolve this problem (I see no reason you might not opine there, even while it lives in userspace). Ideally, Cyde will back off his insistence on changing all articles, even where against editor consensus. But unfortunately, his attitude has only become more belligerent when I have repeated requests in this regard. I think a positive involvment of well-meaning users of the semi-bot might help matters resolve amicably. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 02:34, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

RfC Woggly / Harassment / Blocking

Hello friend. You were the first to tip me off that my Google News story re: Wiki was mentioned on Wikipedia Signpost. I have trekked many miles of Wiki pages since then. Today I am seeking a RfC from User:Woggly and as a result have been blocked by Tom Harrison. I think you are mistaken regarding the block. You are currently not blocked. If that were the case you wouldn't have been able to post on my talk page. Hi Jaco. As you can see from other user posts - Tom Harrison did block me for 24 hours for alledged "legal threats." These "threats" never existed as I excplitly stated to all that I agreed with Wiki legal guidelines and that if I ever did take legal action, I would refrain from editing according to Wiki policy. What I can not understand is how an experienced adm such as Tom Harrison can knee-jerk with a block. But this is now history. What is not history are the clear, massive personal attacks that Woggly has thrown at me, in a well coordinated smear campaign that I have discussed in the RfC re: Woggly. I ask for your assistance and support in addressing this issue. You are a good man. I have seen how you take a negative comment which has been thrown at you and respond in a positive manner. Template:Expand

In the future please refrain from removing the Expand template until the articles have actually been expanded. I saw you removed it from 2006 Dahab bombings because it was linked to from the Main Page. What links to the page is irrelevant. Thanks, KI 02:43, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Do not lecture me. You obviously are unfamiliar with Wikipedia policies and guidelines. You do not remove the expand template until the article has been expanded. There are no exceptions to this rule. The fact that the article is a stub has nothing to do with having the expand template. The fact that you dont like how the template looks does not matter. The next time you decide to talk down to another user I suggest you review the policies you are attempting to cite. In this case that would include WP:OWN, Wikipedia:Vandalism, and Wikipedia:Requests for expansion, KI 19:01, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

If you had checked before doing this you would have seen there are 100+ megs and 100's of pages of relevent data at this site. Every link was appropriate and relevent to where it was placed.

You were adding the link to the index.html page to lots of articles, doing about 30 articles in one minute. If you had perhaps added links pointing to individual manufacturers on your site to the article on that manufacturer, it might be permissible. You are a little bit confused. If you check the logs of my posting you will see that I posted between 11:59 and 12:31, more than 30 minutes, not "30 articles in one minute" as you state.

Yes I did submit to 23 manufacturer's becasue they were all specifically covered in the hifi museum. The content covered is unique and not duplicated elsewhere.

If you check out the definition of spam, the hifi museum does not fit that catagory. It is a non profit site containing relevent information not available elsewhere.

The index page is linked to because that is how the site was designed to be accessed. If individual pages were linked to directly the updates and library would not be visible. Also the visitor would not know about the different sections. It is designed to encourage people to explore. And if someone is intersted in say Altec Lansing they also might be intersted in mark levinson or accuphase.

It's pretty clear that the deletions you made were done with out checking out what you were reverting. Your haste is also evidenced by the "30 articles in one minute" statement.

If the site is relevent to be linked by individual sections (as you state) it clearly is not spam.

When I entered my original staement here I tried to post a link so the site could be seen, and I was greeted with a "blocked IP" error, so I was indeed blocked.

I humbly request that you reconsider and reinstate my edits.

I am of course documenting this process.

You're right about the one minute statement I made, you did add the link to many pages over a thirty minute period, not a one minute period. I wasn't actually confused about that, I merely typed incorrectly. Apologies for that. Your post above does include a link to the site, so I don't know about this blocked IP error. Anyway, as I said before, I didn't block you, or the IP of this website, which isn't on the Spam blacklist. If you were indeed blocked you wouldn't have been able to post on my talk page. Before I reverted I did look at your site to see what I was reverting, and I would make the same judgement today as I did then. Although I could be wrong, it seems to me that you would like to piggyback on Wikipedia to drive traffic to your website, which is not what this project is meant for. You say you are documenting this process, that is fine. Amsterdam

Hi, It boils down to how you define wealthiest. If you mean the number of millionairs or city GDP Amsterdam wasn´t even the wealhiest city in Europe let alone of the world. In China in that age there were cities with millions of inhabitants and with just as many traders and craftsmen as Amsterdam. Anyway there is almost no economic data available to make a meaningfull comparison between Amsterdam and other cities. I wouldn´t want to base a claim like that on an article in the IHT that is about a completely different subject and in which I counted a handfull of errors about Dutch history. CQuote template in Alizee article
