James Reston edit

Reston is not an historian and his books about Richard and the crusades are quite bad. (So is his book about Galileo and probably whatever other history books he has attempted to write.) We should stick to using reputable academic sources. It would be acceptable to mention that in popular belief, as represented by Reston, Richard is often seen as homosexual, but we should temper this with the opinions of proper historians. I think the best work about Saladin is by M.C. Lyons and D.E.P. Jackson. For Richard, I would go with "Richard Coeur de Lion: Kingship, Chivalry and War in the Twelfth Century" by John Gillingham. Adam Bishop (talk) 15:23, 21 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! I read your posts and thought I'd extend my hand to you! If you have any immediate needs, or encounter any problems, please feel free to message me. As far as any questions on the history of Europe and the Middle East during the medieval period, Adam Bishop is (IMO) one of the best, but for general questions, I could probably help out. One thing to try to remember is, the addition of edit summaries in the little box under the actual editing area WP provides, is a good thing to add every time you edit. You'll find out why, once you have been around awhile (see WP:RfA nominations)Good luck, and have fun! Hamster Sandwich (talk) 22:19, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
