Yeah, probably better if you just went ahead and rename them :) If someone else turns out to have a problem with it (which I doubt), they can't blame you anyway, heh, you did open a discussion in the WikiProject after all. -- Obsidin Soul 01:41, 25 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

voss water edit

Hello, I remember you as a hard working wikipedia administrator from some previous encounters.

I am not super wikipedia active, but i stumbled on something which i find suspicious activity to say the least. The Voss water article seems to be edited mostly by voss staff, an any sourced critic claim is blanket reverted right away.

I am certain they can afford to hire someone to edit that article full time and smack random wikipedia policy names in my face. Therefore I would like to consult someone slightly wikisenior to take a look at what they are doing and consider what should be done about it if anything. I am not familiar with the procedures To me the whole thing is a prett yblatant use of wikipedia for commercial gain.

Thanks for your input. Yes, it looks like User:Cappelsv is blatantly removing criticism for the article. However, this is only the second time he has done so in half a year. I see no reason to take any action so far, but if he does it again, I might have reason to take action. JIP | Talk 18:20, 26 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Half Hardy edit

Just trying to establish why the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-hardy_plant was deleted. Seems a very useful botanical distinction, especially in these recent years of hard winters. I reviewed your talk pages for the period in which it was deleted, but found no mention of the subject. No essential nature (talk) 18:09, 4 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I had to look that one up, because it's been four and a half years since I deleted it. It looks like it was just a very short dictionary definition. Therefore I don't think it deserves its own article, but it could perhaps be mentioned in a general article about plants. JIP | Talk 18:38, 4 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

A.I. Assault edit

Hi, I'm disambiguating Shockwave, a dab page with links. One of those links was to a film better known as A.I. Assault. Wikipedia now has redlinks to A.I. Assault from seven actor bios and a couple of lists. I was going to create a stub, and found that you'd deleted an article by that name a couple of years ago:

06:21, 15 December 2009 JIP (talk | contribs) deleted "A.I. Assault" ‎ (Expired PROD, concern was: Unnotable made for television B-movie. Fails WP:NF and WP:N)

The film seems to be somewhat notable by virtue of the number of notable actors in it.... I'm guessing that you deleted a poor quality stub which failed to establish that. Is there any reason why I shouldn't create a new stub? I'd like to turn those redlinks blue and avoid future confusion over Shockwave.

TheMadBaron (talk) 00:28, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I had a look at the deleted article and it looks like it was just a poor quality stub. It had about one sentence of the movie's plot and a list of credits, and nothing more. I don't see any reason why you shouldn't create a new stub. JIP | Talk 04:26, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

A donaldist hello edit

Hi JIP, just noticed from your last couple of refdesk posts that you're apparently a fan of Disney pocket books - it's always nice to see others like the same stuff I like :) Although I'm more of a Barksist these days, I grew up reading pocket books in German, then re-read tons of Topolino stories in the original while learning Italian. Gallaudet University Annual Reports edit

Hello, I see that you deleted the Gallaudet University Annual Reports page suggesting that the info be added elsewhere, but how are people supposed to add the info elsewhere if they cannot access the information in the article that you deleted? Seems to me that if a list of links to past annual reports doesn't fit in the regular Wikipedia site then it would actually fit on one of the alternative Wikipedia sites having to do with other kinds of references or original material that people want to look up, but we can't move the info over to another site if the original article is not accessible. T1 Cunningham edit

On 5 November 2011 you deleted T1 Cunningham, because of an expired PROD discussion about notability and verification of its existence. I couldn't actually find the discussion in question, but I've found at least 4 sources ([2][3][4][5]) that at least mention a prototype tank series T1, with images from the period. I'm not really sure how to go about requesting undeletion considering I can't find the deletion discussion at all. - Tpk5010 [Talk] 16:45, 14 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

MRDA (slang) edit

You deleted a page called Mrda on 16 March 2008. I have just clean up a similar page and while looking for more on it came across an old external link to the old Wikipedia article Mrda. The current page is called MRDA (slang) created on 19 December 2009‎. I am not going to do anything further about it. But the reliable sources on which it is based seems to be about the limit of its usage, and they pre-date your deletion, so not much has changed in the notability field since your delete. So this post is just for your information in case you would like to whack a rat. -- PBS (talk) 08:38, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

inre Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fun Size edit

I invite you to take another look at the article. Maybe it's naive, but I dislike when something with potential gets the bum's rush, and so took it upon myself to begin expanding the sorry stub that was so speedily nominated, making it into something that can continue to grow to serve the readers. One of the first articles I found in my serach for sources was a lengthy on in The New York Times that addresses the topic directly and in detail. Then one by one I found others with which to expand it. A topic's notability if determined through available sources, and policy specifically allows that future events may be written of if they exceed the WP:GNG. This one does. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 07:02, 10 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

And in a follow-up: Based upon improvements to the article, the nominator has withdrrawn.[6] Might you also reconsider? Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 04:17, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

MSU Interview edit

Dear JIP,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:24, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

V R Parton edit

Hi, thx for your corrections to V. R. Parton. The reason I did fancy footwork re the "hand-made bullets" was to get them to align w/ the left-justifed text. But I can see how that code would appear odd. I've opened a relevant question re apparent HTML limitation and technique at the Helpdesk here, FYI. Thx again.
