Victory

edit

Your addition of interwiki links to the CS:Victory(album) and SV:Victory(album) was reverted. Linking an article in English about the general concept of "Victory" to an album in another language about a musical album that happens to have the name "Victory" is not correct.WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:02, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Schengen Agreement

edit

You removed many interwiki entries which were valid. I reverted your edits in both English and Greek wikipedia. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:33, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

There are two articles in some languages, about agreement and about space (Schengenraum). JAn Dudík (talk) 12:05, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The Greek analog to the English article, it was exactly the one you removed. -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:31, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Spiritualism

edit

Looks to me like a lot of people have problems with your removal of interwiki links. I'm not sure why you are trying to remove all of the links on the Spiritualism article, but I guess it's because you don't really know those 15 languages and are assuming that "spiritism" and "spiritualism" mean something different in all of them. Please feel free to use the talk page to explain your important edits.--User:Anthon.Eff 05:40, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I only removed interwiki, which is contained in other articles. The other ones are without problem for bot, but in this one are links to articles, which leads back to another english article. Interwiki should be 1:1. JAn Dudík (talk) 23:17, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
" Interwiki should be 1:1.". Guess I missed that one. Where in policy can I find that rule? --Anthon.Eff (talk) 02:46, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
At least Help:Interlanguage_links#Bots_and_links_to_and_from_a_section. If there aren't links 1:1 then are useless all interwiki bots. And see [[1]]. JAn Dudík (talk) 13:57, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Seems like the 1:1 rule is something that pertains to bots, designed to make their operation easier. I have a problem with that. Bots exist to help us do the things we want to do. If the use of the bot requires that we change our behavior to accommodate them, then they are worthless. The interwiki links in the Spiritualism article belong there: humans who know something about the topic thought about their placement, and to insist that your bot knows better than those humans is just ludicrous. You need to leave the links alone.--Anthon.Eff (talk) 02:46, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
edit

I've (mostly) reverted this edit. I'm guessing there is confusion because the Spanish article (for example) is pointing to Golden alga (a redirect) rather than Golden algae. Kingdon (talk) 21:32, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

OK, there was some mixed interwiki, in some languages exist more articles, but if you know it, you can repair it everywhere. JAn Dudík (talk) 21:53, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bot removed legitimate iw

Hi, this bot removed a correct hand-added iw (fi:Laki) Pitke (talk) 15:46, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

See on the top: fi:laki have all backlinks except en to different articles. So remove it from en, or replace it on fi. Or make one article with all good interwiki and let me know to spread it. JAn Dudík (talk) 15:02, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

When adding interwiki links to a template, if the template has a document subpage, the links belong on the subpage and not on the template itself. Your bot recently added[3] a bunch of interwiki links to Template:User en-1. However, these links were already present on Template:User en-1/doc which is transcluded to the document. Could you please:

  1. Fix your bot so that it probably add links to the doc subpage when present; and
  2. Double check all recent edits and clean-up any other mistakes like this one?

By the way, this issue was raised at ANI. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 14:26, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

As your bot is continuing to make these mistakes, I've blocked it to give you a chance to notice the above comment and fix the problem. Once you have it fixed, you can let me know or the Bot owners' noticeboard and it will be unblocked. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 14:46, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Can you read the header? I had no warning and now you shooted my bot on remote server :-( I'll stop doing interwiki in templates for now. JAn Dudík (talk) 14:55, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I gave you twenty minutes to notice you had a message and you still had not addressed the issue yourself. As you are running your bot on this wiki, this is where you should expect to see comments on it. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:01, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK. When I run my bot on 250 wikis, may I watch 250 talkpages? Even if I have mail notification, this sometimes arrives many hours later. I suggested to developers to change the script if some typeof {{documentation}} is present, bot will skip this page like as if {{nobots}} is present. But 20 hours is too few to change it. JAn Dudík (talk) 15:05, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
You can easily edit you bot to check for the presence of a new message on its talk page. That would require you to not redirect the bot's talk page to your talk page, but that is an easy change as well. Detecting the new message bar is a standard way of detecting problems during a bot run.
Doesn't matter how long it takes, you shouldn't run it in the Template space until you have it fixed. You're welcome to run it in other namespaces though.
Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 15:11, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Town/City interwiki conflict

edit

In July 2009 you added lots of interwiki links to the Town article. However, these articles don't link back to the Town article, but instead to City. This creates an interwiki conflict that blocks interwiki robots from updating the list. Did you discuss this problem somewhere? --LA2 (talk) 21:43, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rectification (geometry)

edit

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rectification_(geometry)&diff=311315995&oldid=310920450

At least three other bots have previously mistakenly linked Rectification (geometry) to fr:Rectification (mécanique), an unrelated concept. Some of those I can understand: the reciprocal link already existed (and I removed it when I found it). But now JAnDbot added the wrong link both ways at the same time. Why? —Tamfang (talk) 06:01, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

You must remove bad link from all alnguages and remove it from this "bad" article too. I'll repair it. JAn Dudík (talk) 12:22, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Chili Pepper in zh

edit

Refering to this change by the bot: [5]

The Chinese link from "Chili pepper" was removed by your bot. As of today these are the links of various "chili" (Capsicum) entries and their links:
en: Capsicum= zh: 辣椒属
en: Capsicum frutescens = zh: 辣椒
Which sounds ok at first glance. The only problem is, now "Chili pepper" is left with no Chinese link:
en: Chili pepper = zh: NOTHING AT ALL
You see, there seems to be this debate on the English "Chili pepper" page about merging the entry into "Capsicum" ([6]) And they have decided to keep them separated for now. But there is no similar separation between "Chili pepper" and "Capsicum frutescens" in the Chinese Wikipedia. And most importantly, the word 辣椒 can means both the species "Capsicum frutescens" and the common terms for the fruit "Chili pepper". So it make sense to link en: "Chili pepper" to 辣椒, while liking 辣椒 to "Capsicum frutescens", which is a very short entry that can direct readers back to the page "Chili pepper".
I am making the change now, but we can discussed about this at this page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.198.200.71 (talk) 05:18, 4 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Tokyo again

edit

Please stop modify the de and ja links. The very first sentence of the article says "Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō?), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to?),[2] is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan and is located on the eastern side of the main island Honshū. " So the ja link to 東京都 is the correct link. Thank you. Oda Mari (talk) 07:35, 12 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

If this is about prefecture, it should be better to move it to name Tokyo Prefecture. And in this case most of the interwiki links are incorrect because leads to article about city, not prefecture.

Sorry that I took time to reply. Your survey is not correct. I checked some of them and af:Tokio, es:Tokio, fr:Tōkyō, and ar:طوكيو are the article on Tokyo Metoropolis. You can see the Japanese name "東京都" in them. FYI, there was a city of Tokyo, but not anymore. Isn't it possible to leave the article alone? If you think the article should be moved, why don't you ask on the talk page? Regards. Oda Mari (talk) 15:34, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I am doing interwiki from small languages and in every language article Tokyo have problem with mixed interwiki, So I must repair it in every run. If anybody makes correct versions of interwiki, is no problem to repair uit everywhere. JAn Dudík (talk) 21:16, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
The sub-national jurisdictions in Japan and the history of Tokyo are complicated. I think that makes things complicated. The article Ja:東京 is an article about the geographical name "Tokyo" and ja:東京都 is an article about Tokyo as an administrative unit. En:Tokyo is about an administrative unit and en wikipedia does not have a geographical article on Tokyo. And, you may notice, some languages have two articles and some don't. So it should be checked one by one. I think I can do that some, but there are languages that I cannot understand and tell them correct or incorrect. What do you think the best way to solve it? Is there anything you want me to do? Tell me your opinion. Thank you. Oda Mari (talk) 05:49, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

You are not right, my bot removed links to venetian and tonga wikipedia and links to another namespaces too. Please before reverting check removed links and it's backlinks. JAn Dudík (talk) 08:29, 13 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
I have checked the links. your bot removed 6 language links. 4 of them were links leading to wrong links, 2 of them were correct links. deleting valid and correct data from wikipedia articles is considered vandalism. when a bot does something like that, the owner of the bot should look into the issue, and adjust his bot. you cannot, for instance, delete an entire sentence simply because you're trying to correct a typo. your bot as again removed 3 valid language links from the same page. I have reverted that edit, and issued out a final warning. if your bot does that again, you will be reported to WP:ANI. please adjust your bot. thank you. Two of them were links to another namespace. These pages have another links, in some languages are both article in main namespace and page in projet namespace. But there was problem with zh:page too, because bug of framework bot found two different pages, but only one exists. Now it might be repaired, bud whole framework is broken. Hi Jan, there's a discussion on WP:ANI regarding this. PhilKnight (talk) 12:00, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
We expect that bots will be employed in making uncontroversial edits. When the same bot returns several times to revert changes made by human editors, as it has done at List of Wikipedias, I think you are pressing against the limits of your mandate. For instance, over in the Swedish Wikipedia they have chosen to locate their 'List of Wikipedias' in the WP namespace. Apparently, you think their decision justifies breaking any interwiki link to their list. This is a policy question on which you should try to find consensus. I don't see any posts by you at Talk:List of Wikipedias. If you continue to use a bot to revert out links that have been restored by humans at List of Wikipedias, the bot may be blocked for edit warring. I'd also like to hear your plan for dealing with the 'broken framework' that you complain of in the last comment. EdJohnston (talk) 03:26, 17 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
There is only one problem: in spanish wikipedia are both articles: in Anexo: namespace and in Wikipedia: namespace. Which one is correct? If you solve this, it might be correct to mix links together. Framewor (pywikipedia) is no more broken, but there was impossible to run bot in some versions.
