re: Rhythm and blues

edit

the paragraph, as it reads, describes more a general overview of modern R&b and not hip-hop soul (a genre which really died out in about 1996/1997 when Timbaland's production style became popular). Oh, and to pry into your above conversation, "hip hop music" and "rap music" are the same thing. I suppose the only thing you could call "hip hop music" and not "rap music" would b e an instrumental, like a DJ album (since there is no rapping). A lot of people have created highly POV designations between the two, but there's really no difference. --FuriousFreddy 02:29, 5 August 2005 (UTC) Welcome!Reply

Louisiana template

edit

There are only 5 Louisiana regions[1] Can I suggest that you put "Ark-La-Tex" under "Northwest Louisiana"..like the "River Parishes" fit under "Acadiana." Alos it seems that you are adding "Sportsman's Paradise" as a region which is really a nickname stuck on LA licenseplates. I did not want to change myself, as I prefer to work with you. You've been doing a great job in areas of my interest. --Aaron charles 00:38, 24 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I will move the Tex-Ark. I have not heard of this official Sportsman's P. region. Can you direct me to a site or legis #? All I found on a search was that Act 1242 in 2003 put the "Sportsman's Paradise" motto back onto license plates after the L.A. Purchase Bicentennial. All the best. --Aaron charles 01:02, 24 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Louisiana metro areas

edit

Jack, my source is: http://www.lafayette.org/site118.php. It shows "L.C., Alex., and Monroe" as official metro areas. Do you have an official source that shows otherwise? --Aaron charles 04:05, 16 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Okay- I went to the link you sent . Thank you.U.S. Census.gov says Lake Charles MSA has two parishes:

"29340 Lake Charles, LA Metropolitan Statistical Area
29340 22019 Calcasieu Parish, LA
29340 22023 Cameron Parish, LA"

Is there another part of the U.S. Census site that contradicts itself? --Aaron charles 04:27, 16 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Metro labels

edit

Very great point! I like your suggestions, especially Alexandra (Louisiana) Metropolitan Area and same for Lafayette. I prefer it over the comma "," version because it distinguishes it from a city reference.

I looked on the page: List of the largest metropolitan areas in the Americas, to try to find a similar circumstance -- but none exact. Interesting the links in that list go to cities instead of metro articles (should be changed). --Aaron charles 18:30, 22 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

CORRECTION: Found a standard used by others on the page Category:Metropolitan areas of the United States. They use the "{metro},{state}" model. --Aaron charles 05:00, 23 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors wanted at LSU

edit

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian in Louisiana. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at Louisiana State University, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).

If you live near Baton Rouge and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 17:12, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
