RE:Previews vs. frequent saving

Hi Ian, thanks for the the tip. This is something I'm now doing as I'm getting the hang of wiki. With the Saints (which, by the way, I'd love to do more with.) I was having trouble trying to some of the images and info box stuff to show up currectly. Are these user talk boxes the best way to comunicate to other users? No prob. I think that'd be great if you did more on The Saints. I expanded it a fair bit ages ago and have more stuff to add but need to verify/source some of it, so don't be shy. Yep, the User Talk pages are best for general communications with users that may not be related to a specific article (such as my thing about frequent saving, I noticed it on The Saints page but my point was a general editing one). If it's something that's directly related to the content or style of an article, then best use the article's Talk page. If you 'watch' an article, then any posts to that article's Talk page will also come up on your watchlist (I have the 'Watch this page' checkbox switched on by default when I edit; you can set this in My Preferences - Editing if you haven't already). POV Fan-boy hell

Ian Rose, with all due respect, I have been looking at some of your contributions to wikipedia, they are full of alarming POV and wholly lacking in neutrality. Let me remind you that wikipedia is not some kind of fanzine vantity project. Here is a typical example: 'Surprisingly, perhaps, Numan was able to make "On Broadway" completely his own, incorporating a stupendous sythesizer solo which conveyed a longing and a poignancy that went far beyond the song's well-known lyrics.' Catch a hold of yourself, man!

Feline1, with equal respect, I'm more than happy to get reality checks on the stuff I write, as I hope we all are in this community. Judging by the number of additions/corrections I've noticed in the couple of months I've been contributing, a fair number of wikipedians have been through the articles I've written or expanded without being similarly 'alarmed' by such "fanzine vanity". But you're entitled to your POV and I do agree about the bit you've quoted which was over the top - though you've mentioned an early version of it that's different to the current wording which gives credit to Billy Currie. Well and good - I'm planning to do another pass of all the Numan articles in any case to insert text boxes and covers and will obviously be reviewing their current content at the same time. Cheers! that's because, with all due disrespect to a lot of the people who chip in on wikipedia, particularly on pop music articles, they ARE a bunch of fan-boys with an average age of about 14, and I wouldn't take their lack of editorial rigour to be a validation of anything! Please remember that you should not be writing subjective statements based on personal taste. At most, a comment along the lines of "many critics have noted" or "some fans have cited" etc etc.--feline1 10:21, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

RE: Bowie songs

Hello there Ian.

Thanks for the message! I have been thinking about what to do with the references. My "source" now is some kind of encyclopedia that I made for myself 5-6 years ago. Here I collected information from several sources, mainly internet sites and such. Sadly I didn't note what sources I used then, so I will try to keep to the more "technical" stuff like different releases and versions. And I will be consistent with the album and song titles. I will go over the songs I have added so far and fix this.

Hi Ian. Abo Henry or Mick Drury are both very deserving of articles, especially Drury. I have his book, so if you don't have access to it and find you need info, let me know and I'll make some notes for you. A relative of mine (Steve Bastoni) actually played the part of Drury in Blue Murder, so I'm looking forward to seeing your article about the mini-series. John Foxx

Hi. I notice you have commented that the link to Vladimir Bogdanov was misplaced. As far as I can see Vladimir Bogdanov is one of the editors of All Music Guide to Electronica. Is there another reason why linking there is misplaced; is there a related policy I havent read? just curious. Jayvdb 12:36, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi mate, yes I was referring to Bogdanov when I said the link was incorrect. Not your fault, I know the article says he's an editor of AMG but I find it difficult to believe that's the same guy who runs a Russian oil company - and you might note that the veracity of that claim has been questioned on the article's talk page by someone else as well. Until/unless someone can prove they're the same guy, I think it's safer to assume they're different and therefore there should be no link between the AMG author in the John Foxx article and the Bogdanov article. Hello, and thanks for giving me details on what colors means in music-related articles. I still don't know a lot of things on how this whole encyclopedia works, I'm just learning to write articles based on what other people does. My main projects right now are cleaning articles on Visage/Ultravox both in English and Spanish. Since my native language is Spanish and I'm not very fluent in English any help on having everything spelled the correct ways will be extremely greeted too.

I think it's looking good and consistent - thanks for asking. My thoughts/questions: 1) Not sure about the 'Additional personnel' subsections. I think it looks better just listing everyone under the one heading; with a solo artist like Bowie it can be a little academic to have a hard-and-fast rule about who's 'core personnel' in his band at any one time. 2) Were you planning to add the UK charts and certifications to the tables? I think I know all the UK chart possies but not too sure about the certifications. 3) There are two Certification tables for Aladdin Sane, I assume one is redundant but don't know which date is correct. Hey Ian, I just noticed your comment on Mets' talk page and I wanted to say thanks. I've honestly been blushing at the kind words people have written. Regardless of what happens with the RfA, I feel really encouraged to have had such comments written by editors I genuinely like and respect. So thankyou very much. :)
By the way, I was interested to read on your user page that you're an old RAAF-brat! I never joined the RAAF, but I worked for a while in the RAAF's Medical Support Unit at Victoria Barracks in Melbourne. Great experience.

Glad you enjoyed working with the Air Force. I never joined either but I 'did my part' as an IT contractor at Headquarters Air Command, Glenbrook, in the Blue Mountains for four years. It was like coming home 'cos that's where we were stationed when I was born (in the days when it was called OPCOM - Operational Command). Actually I'll tell you a funny about the place which I can't put on the page because it's purely anecdotal and non-notable... When I first worked there it was called Air Headquarters (to go with the Army's Land Headquarters and Navy's Maritime Headquarters). Then they suddenly changed it to Headquarters Air Command. Re: Claims that Colin Thurston co-produced "Heroes" (David Bowie)

I got the main source information from this webpage, which states that Thurston was co-producer of the album. Checking back at the AMG, he's downgraded to just being an engineer (the way he apparently was for a lot of Bowie's albums), but when I spotted that on the Discogs site, I grew very excited because I thought it'd be Thurston's first production credit. And, poor guy, he did a lot with Bowie and yet I still can't slot him anywhere where Bowie is concerned. (Krushsister 03:55, 28 September 2006 (UTC))

Oh wow, it'd be a great idea to create an article on Thurston himself. If this is going to be done properly, we have to each contribute to the article, you writing about Thurston's work with Bowie (and apparently Iggy Pop too -- wow, so "Lust For Life" was co-produced by him), and me writing about when Thurston became a producer for '80s New Wavers. The only problem I have is that I don't know what he's been up to since he was (apparently) the in-house producer for this now-defunct record company. But if you know more about what's happened to him since that time period, that knowledge would be highly invaluable. Oh, you are a prince for coming up with that idea! The Bowie Template

First of, thanks for reviewing my template.. This is the first time I've done anything like this so sorry for the mistakes. I based the template on John Lennon's, and it gives no problems on my IE. As for the "David bowie" instead of "David Bowie", i only realised later that it would make a difference.

I'm kinda busy these days so I'd be really pleased if you could carry on the good work. Also is there any way that the template can be added to many pages without individually editting each page?

Non-capitalization of every word in song titles

Thanks for the pointer to that policy, though I do question exactly how it was formulated (especially since "song titles" is not in the header for that section, and it was possibly thrown in as an afterthought). The convention I have seen outside of Wikipedia is to capitalize every letter in song titles, even those that would not usually be capitalized. I have found that this convention seems to be more prevalent in music criticism circles but is not so much adhered to by the common journalist or editor; it may even be peculiar to British English, though if you know more about this, I hope you will be able to enlighten me.
