Alphabetizing edit

Alas, I did it the old fashioned way; if there is a Wiki-magic way to do it I couldn't find it. I'd guide you to other places to seek answers but it seems like you know them all already. :-) Sorry I wasn't much help! Mindspillage (spill your mind?) 03:52, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Heh. When I want to do something productive but I don't feel like writing anything, I find random things to tidy up – and I know I'm not the only one who does this. On the whole Wikipedia is much less messy than you might expect! Actually, I was there adding a link anyway, so I figured I might as well. Happy editing! Searles Castle reply edit

Hello! Thanks for getting back to me on that Searles Castle issue. Occasionally, folks will start in on an article and realize the title is wrong. They blank the page and hope for a speedy deletion to come along, which is what I had assumed had happened in your case. The new article is just flat out wonderful and I encourage you to contribute more like it. Welcome to the wacky wiki!! Please give a yell on my talk page if you have any other questions. - Lucky 6.9 19:48, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)

  • (Re: minor tweaks) You're welcome. Thank you for the article. It caught my eye while I was patrolling Recent Changes. Anything with the word "castle" is guaranteed to grab my attention.  :-) I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures when they become available. Happy editing! SWAdair | Talk 04:00, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Deletion abbreviations edit

Greetings. OB stands for "obsolete", meaning there exists a better image to use instead. OR stands for "orphan", meaning the image isn't used. CV stands for copyright violation. We use these abbreviations on IFD. I figured in might confuse people to see these in the log, but it's a lot easier than writing the whole thing out, and I'm lazy. :) – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 13:45, Feb 12, 2005 (UTC)

WP Hierarchy edit

Your joking, right? How about Jimbo, the wikimedia board, the developers, Bureaucrats, the arbitration commitee, the mediation commitee, admins, users, new users, anons, known sockpuppets and trolls, and hard banned users.... doesn't that sound like a clear hierarchy to you? Also this ignores completely the general guideline to avoid self references when possible, on top of the POV and factual inaccuracy. Sam Spade (talk · contribs) 08:24, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Please see User_talk:Sam_Spade#Wikipedia_Hierarchy_Copy. Where was the above from, btw? I seem to have forgotten. (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 00:05, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Message left on Sam Spade's talk page:
I was just poking around and following some controvertial stuff when I came across either Mgm or Netoholic (I forget which) trying to get you to stop using a template for your signature. I was interested because I wanted to understand their's and your position so that I would do the proper thing myself. Anyway, as I was looking at your talk page I noticed your commentary about the Wiki heirarchy, a well thought out description I thought, so I copied it to my talk page for my own reference. I hope you don't mind but if you do, I'll get rid of it. hydnjo talk 01:47, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

This picture is the best I've been able to get so far (other better pics are too comercial). When the snow melts and the green comes back I'll go up and take some pictures myself (I live nearby). Also I'm trying to find more editorial material. hydnjo talk 23:45, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

:-)That's a wonderful picture. Thank you for remembering me, and please do remember me again when you get more pics. User talk:SWAdair
The picture is not very representative of the grandeur of this piece of early 20th century Americana. I'll illustrate it better later. I'm glad someone else besides me is interested in this kind of stuff. hydnjo talk 04:41, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi,

Unfortunately, Wikipedia can't use content that's been copied from other websites - it's important to respect the author's copyright. In the future please don't copy other sites into Wikipedia articles, without the author's permission. Thanks. Rhobite 05:21, Feb 15, 2005 (UTC)

I'm sorry about the mistake on my part. I was researching and by mistake I loaded a research article into the Wiki article. I wish there was a quick way to un-do the error with a keystroke or two but it seems that it nees to go through the VFD process Hopefully speedy. I guess this will make me more careful in the future ;-) hydnjo talk 06:01, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)
It's no problem at all, undoing things is pretty easy around here. Happy editing. Rhobite 06:13, Feb 15, 2005 (UTC)

Eh, it was just a trivial edit, really. Still, it's good to have a message on my talk page that doesn't require me to go justify my actions to somebody. It has gotten to the point lately where I cringe when I see the big yellow new messages box. -- Cyrius| 04:07, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

de-stubbing edit

Hi Hyjno - you wrote Thank you for "de-stubbing" this article. Just curious though - how did you find (locate) it?

I only "de-stubbed" it inasmuch as I took the stub template off it - someone else did the hard work of writing. As to where I found it, I'm part of the stub-sorting WikiProject (WP:WSS), and I found it while doing a sweep of Category:Stub. Grutness|hello?   02:01, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

hewlett packard edit

I added the based-in subject category due to Oregon having the base facilities for HP Printer operations and research. If this is in error, I will need to reconsider another other article I minorly edited. Tygar 18:14, Mar 6, 2005 (UTC)

After reviewing HP site, looks like I was in error with this category assignment. Sorry. Tygar 18:43, Mar 6, 2005 (UTC)

Two votes at Million pool edit

I noticed you made two votes (July 23 and 31) at Wikipedia:Million pool. Did you change your vote, but forget to delete the old one? —Mar·ka·ci:2005-03-10 02:42 Z

Oops, you're right. I'll delete my 31 July 2006 entry as it is your birthday. Good luck, hydnjo talk 04:01, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Danke edit

Hey, thanks for the fix on my user page. Mr. Billion 03:05, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

When I made it, I didn't realize there was no Interstate 291 article. --SPUI (talk) 02:21, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Yes, of course they're linked. Because they're valid redirects, EXCEPT that there is no article at the target. What part of that don't you understand? --SPUI (talk) 02:38, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Kein Gluck edit

Nein, nichts gefunden auf [[1]] . None of those seem to refer to any kind of partisan or armed resistence in .de after the german capitulation. I also looked on 1945 and 1946 (the year articles) in german, also no mention there. :-/ Thanks for your suggestion though! :-) Kim Bruning 13:25, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Heidi question edit

Hi! Thanks for getting back to me. Generally, single-sentence articles are speedy deletion candidates since they lack content. A short article is great, but there has to be more to it since this is a reference work. You can add things like the movie's year of release, its costars, differences between the movie and the original story or perhaps any odd stories related to the production. If I remember right, that's the same movie that NBC cut to back in 1968 before the end of an AFC football game since they thought the game was hopelessly over and went to the movie. Turns out the Raiders came from behind in the final few seconds to win. Tell ya what: I'll remove the speedy tag and let you have at it. Best, - Lucky 6.9 22:39, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

    • Oops...wrong Heidi. The one in '68 was made for TV. I see now that an anon wrote the article (such as it is). Something like that can usually be tagged as a speedy without any problem. - Lucky 6.9 22:44, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • LOL! Yeah, I noticed the "Heidi connection!" Too funny. Have a great weekend and hope you're still having fun here. - Lucky 6.9 21:38, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • Oh, this is becoming fun. Folks like you make editing here worthwhile. The screen name comes from my rather fortunate acquisition of a Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 for all of $99 just before discovering Wikipedia. Way I figured, it was a "lucky" break, but not quite a "lucky seven." So, the fractional "Lucky 6.9" was born. Car still needs work, but what a blast it is to drive! - Lucky 6.9 01:11, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • Yeah, that "6.9" has raised an eyebrow or two in the past...hope you liked the article! The car's only badge is, in fact "6.9." There aren't any "450SEL" badges on it at all. Even the promo literature called it just "6.9." I owe you a ride! - Lucky 6.9 01:37, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Re: 666,666th pool edit

No, because 666,667 isn't as cool as 666,666 :) User:Luigi30 (ΛυηγηΛ) 01:17, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Fan club edit

Cool, you are the first member of my fan club I have decided to set up. And don't bother talking to Onefool, he's a drunken offspring (he's my outlet for editting under the influence). You made me laugh when I was spying on my son. thanks Bashfool!--Wonderfool (talk) (contribs) (email) 11:11, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I'm a bit confused as to what's going on there. If you happen to know more, please let me know, but I'll unblock it in the meantime just to be safe. Best, SlimVirgin 22:12, Mar 23, 2005 (UTC)

Nothing goes unnoticed ;-) and that's good to see!
You caught me between edits, I'm currently in the process of editing the old Marking out page to cover the more traditional usage. The delay is in part due to me attempting to tidy up any remaining wiki links to the original page's contents. It's unlikely I'll be revisiting the pro wrestling area so I figured I'd spend a bit of extra time on catching any mistakes I made. Thanks -- Graibeard 02:12, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hound's Tooth edit

Hi! That article now looks more like a real substub than a vandal bot listing. At first, it just looked like more auto-generated booshwah from goodness-knows-where. I may take a stab at expansion m'self. Thanks for the heads-up and remember that you can fix anything that has a speedy tag on it. Have a great weekend! - Lucky 6.9 23:17, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • It's such an incredibly minor bit of canonical fluff that I don't really know what could be added to this that isn't already at the link. I really dig "Star Wars," but I'd never heard of this bounty hunter nor this ship until now. - Lucky 6.9 05:02, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Speedy deletion edit

I noticed you nominated Nomad zen for speedy deletion due to its being advertising. Just thought I'd let you know, advertisement is not a criteria for speedy deletion. See wp:csd. We try to be strict about these sort of things. Thanks and keep contributing, Meelar (talk) 01:14, Mar 27, 2005 (UTC)

Toronto roads edit

Please stop moving Toronto streets, many of them do not require disambiguation. - SimonP 05:05, Mar 27, 2005 (UTC)

I have posted the following on SimonP's talk page:
I'm not subtracting information am I? I just noticed that some of your street names were familiar to me, but not in Toronto. Anyone who looks up the un-ambiguated street name will go directly to the Toronto street article unless there is another street with the same name at which time they will have the opportunity to choose which street they intended. Do you have a problem with that? If so, please explain because I'm trying to avoid confusion and not create conflict. hydnjo talk 05:53, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Moving them does nothing to solve this problem as the reader will still be redirected to the Toronto street, but now at a more ugly and cumbersome name. Unless disambiguation pages are created at the more generic name moving helps no one. Moreover the vast majority of the pages you moved will never even need to be disambiguated as in most cases Toronto is the only city in the world with a street by that name notable enough to have an article. - SimonP 06:15, Mar 27, 2005 (UTC)
OK then lets rv the changes and only disambig as necessary. I can't help tonight but will get on with it as time permits. Sorry for any inconvience. hydnjo talk 06:51, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I have gone trhough them. There are a few that certainly needed to be disambiged, e.g. College Street, University Avenue, and Queen Street. Others I restored to their original titles. - SimonP 14:57, Mar 27, 2005 (UTC)
  • Excuse me but what is so special about Toronto? Per WP:WIWO, most streets do not deserve articles period. Radiant_* 09:45, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)
I responded on Radiant's talk page:
I don't think that Toronto roads are special at all. In my comments at Wikipedia:Deletion policy/Minor roads I tried to explain what I saw and did when I noticed a flood of new articles with only Streetname as their title. I saw that most were non-notable streets in Toronto. Also, some had common streetnames (eg: Front Street). I didn't know exactly what to do but I thought that I would at least move them from Streetname to Streetname (Toronto) to reduce ambiguity (I probably should have alerted one of you guys instead). Anyway the folks that loaded the pages in the first place took issue with my having moved them to Streetname (Totonto) and they re-moved them back to Streetname. I agree entirely with you in setting some minimum threshold for streenames to become an article. If my comments suggest otherwise then I apologize for not stating my position clearly. I thought that the final sentence in my comments wouls make my position obvious, I agree with you. ;-) hydnjo talk 16:43, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
    • Ok :) I suppose merge/redirecting would be an option, then. It's easier than dragging each and every nn street through VfD. Radiant_* 17:27, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

Thank you very much for correcting my mistake. I do understand the distinction between the namespces, I just accidently used the wrong one. Thanks again for the very courteous and helpful message. Rmrfstar 04:40, 27 Mar 2005

  • lol, thats really funny that I screwed that up to, I usually write to people's talk pages, sorry for requiring you to deal with another of my screw-ups. -- Rmrfstar 05:37, 27 Mar 2005

User:Onefool edit

Shwa? That's not me, I even find this doubly ironic, as I'm one of the people pushing to get User:Iasson banned for using public accounts. (See Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Iasson) Whatever. humblefool® 23:42, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Shwa? is a humorous sound effect, like going what?, but more quizzically. And no problem, I was just worried you'd get an admin unfamiliar with what was going on to block me as a sockpuppet :) humblefool® 18:23, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

More Hound's Tooth edit

It's probably OK to leave it up with a stub notice. Some "Star Wars" fan is likely to latch onto it and even if the link goes bye-bye, there's probably lots of other sites that have the info. - Lucky 6.9 18:37, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)
