Seattle-Portland Community Charity match

It was added and removed a couple of times before. There's a discussion about it on the talk page and they agreed that preseason matches, because of their liberal substitution rules, were not appropriate to include in the official W-T-L of the match-up. Since it wouldn't appear in the numbers it would be misleading/confusing to list the match result along with the competitive matches and there were no other preseason matches in the list. They felt it was fine to put a blurb about notable preseason matches in the Memorable Moments, however. I happen to agree with the conclusion they made but you can voice your opinion in that discussion over there and might affect some change. DemonJuice (talk) 17:31, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Fort Lauderdale–Tampa Bay rivalry

I wanted to ask you opinion before I went through with a major over hall of the Fort Lauderdale–Tampa Bay rivalry page you edit/update regularly. As you may have seen, I've recently reformatted it to tell the story chronologically and fixed a few minor errors that I've discovered (including an uncredited Strikers victory). I was thinking of breaking it out further into even more distinct sections; ie -old NASL, ASL/APSL, & new NASL to go along with the others. And each with their own brief narrative. As it stands, the main Rowdies/Strikers chart kind of overwhelms you with those 58 games in a row, even though they are really from 3 distinct eras. Along that same line the friendlies could be blended into thoser respective eras, as was done with the indoor friendlies in the indoor section. At the end of the page, a final "sortable" table would appear, that breaks out the series by: All-time, Reg season, Playoffs/Cups, Friendlies and Indoor. So what do you think? You did a great job. One little note. When an expansion team was announced in 2008 the team was called FC Tampa Bay Rowdies. The intent was always there to bring the Rowdies back but because of a trademark dispute the name had to be dropped. The success of the Rowdies was really what prompted Miami FC to rebrand. Other than that, you have done a great job and look forward to working with you on this page and future NASL and soccer pages...

Thanks for the kudos. Like I said, when I get a bit more time I hope to do more expansion. A few notes... I tried to make the info box similar to the one that REAL and Barca use for El Classico which has lists both all-time & official meetings. It appears to be impossible to find the attendance figure from that US Open Cup game they played. I know exactly what you're saying about the trademark dispute, but I had two thoughts on my chosen wording.

-1) those matches in 2010 were played by teams legally known as "FC Tampa Bay" and "Miami FC", even though everyone was already commonly referring to FC Tampa Bay as the Rowdies. To that end, the Strikers name reemerged before the Rowdies from a legal standpoint (no matter FtL's motivation), and I thought it proper to acknowledge the correct chronology. This despite that I'm an admitted "fannie" from way back and hated to give you guys credit for anything (kidding, of course).

-2) the legal wranglings that the current owners had to go through to get the name, logo and uniforms are something left to be delved into on the Rowdies' wiki-page, not the rivalry page. That's why it was worded as it was. My opinions not withstanding, if you still think it's better with your last edit, no worries. As I expand the page more, do you think Rowdies/Toros matches should be counted in the official tally? Or should the official tally be ONLY Strikers/Rowdies games? It's a bit grey, since those were official matches in 1975-76, and was the same franchise. Currently the Fusion/Mutiny matches are not included in the official total either, even though the Fusion played in FtL. Not sure which way to go with it, so I thought I should get a SoFL opinion. As a side note, those 1975-76 matches (and the MLS) are already included in the all-time series along w/friendlies and indoor games.

Info box looks great. Logo and uniform should be left on the Rowdies Wiki for sure (which i already did way back). Lets just stick to the rivalry and all it's importance. In regards to Rowdies/Toros Fusion/Mutiny,, I guess it really comes down to what we want this page to be more about...Rowdies/Strikers rivalry or a in house florida rivalry all together. The Fusion/Mutiny matches never really garnered much attention or passion. Personally, i believe MLS confused then robbed these franchises of their future but that's a different story. I would stick to the history and passion of the Rowdies v Strikers. Also, do we have any stories between (fannies/Ralph's mob+Striker-likers/Miami Ultras flight 19) clippings to better concentrate on what makes this rivalry passionate and one of the best in America. Once again, great job.  :)

I couldn't agree more about MLS's handling of Florida teams. And now it appears almost certain that Orlando City and Miami will be the new MLS teams, further pushing the Florida Derby off to the side. Tampa Bay will never again get an MLS opportunity, as Orlando is too close a market. Atlanta will get a 4th chance to fail at the the D 1 level before TB gets even a sniff. Cyclones? hmm. You really are a workaholic :). Not quite sure i would even bring them up for a few reasons. One, is that it discredits the passion and history of the original subject, Rowdies/Strikers rivalry. It also saturates the history of the Rowdies/Strikers (Florida Derby) rivalry and Florida soccer in general. I remember when the Mutiny/Fusion began to post itself on this board and that was up for discussion. I really like what your doing but remember, less can be more. A market like Florida can't contain any more blemish especially when locals barely know about or even cared about the cyclones (semi-pro) especially when an MLS team was operating at the same time. It takes away from the Mutiny and Fusion. Regardless what people say or think, Florida has a rich history with soccer, TOP level soccer which should only be displayed on this board. What makes the Rowdies brand so special is it's legacy. When all other teams folded in 83,84, the Rowdies would continue, lasting the longest. The Florida Derby is and should mostly be concentrating on Rowdies/Strikers footy. I hope i'm not coming across too serious. I think i just love soccer too much. Pls let me know what you think.

No, no worries. Glad to get feedback and I dont disagree with what you said. The main reason I included them was b/c one carried the legacy name (Strikers #3), while the other was a farm team of a team in the rivalry (Mutiny). Since I've never lived in FtLaud, I have no idea how serious (or not) the TRUE Strikers fans took the matches against a Tampa Bay opponent as they waited for an MLS team to arrive. Now I just have to go correct the all-time totals that you missed when deleting the section :-) Still bugs me that I can't find some of those attendance figures though. Just to keep you posted. I will soon be working more on the Fort Lauderdale Strikers page adding and re-crafting. It's a hoarders paradise. Also thinking about adding the New York Cosmos as another rival for the Rowdies- (visa/versa) but waiting to see how the new rivalry unfolds. Totally fine, I pretty much stay away from creating new pages as of lately. The players name is Sammy Hill and is the son of Manchester United legend Gordon Hill. I briefly worked on Mr. Hills page and read his biography just to find out his son was a footballer. After some research i found that not only did he play but actually scored a few goals for Chester City. Let me know what you think.. All the best :)

Generally, it's better to discuss issues on the relevant talk page instead of using silly and contentious edit summaries. "Out of spite"? Really now. I've been a regular editor of that article for years and have likely added more information to it than any other single person. My goal, as always, is to make it better. Humble yourself my friend, it's only wiki. You are absolutely doing this out of spite, no need for argument. I don't disagree on your hard work but your format needs work. You hoard, i like composition-(flow). Many hours were spent, myself and many other Wiki users on fixing this opening, (your not alone). Now this is not a question of right or wrong, but who wants what. I'm simply protecting what was already written and you clearly want it your way. I guess either way is right, right?. What you've changed was the result fixed months ago. Continue adding though, maybe add the ex coaches, attendance figures, supporters and maybe another paragraph repeating yourself in the opening, why not? BTW, before taking the pitch they were still know as FC Tampa Bay Rowdies, thats what prompted the lawsuit. If you change something at least do it right. We do NOT have the same goal 'Regular editor' but have it your way. Ridiculous.
