I've done the wharfs. I see you are having a go at images on Commons yourself. Remember to put a copyright tag in or the image will be deleted! I use public domain for canal icons as it makes them freely available for modification without having to worry about preserving the correct attribution or licence tags. And I should point out that the category for canal icons on Commons spells canal with a lower case c (the category is named incorrectly on Wikipedia). Good luck. ugENDEe does exist, as you say, but that's a transition from in use canal to not-in use canal. What I thought I needed (for the end of the Montgomery canal) was the same icon as uENDEe, but in green. In fact, there was a wharf at the end, so I can create a wghfKBFg and use that instead. Hmallett 10:27, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

The how to that's on yout user page is a good move. Might vbe worth expanding it to include the BS2 - BS5 templates that are needed for more complex cases. Mayalld 06:46, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

I'll expand it once I've figured it out for myself! I've not used those templates yet.

BS2 allows 2 icons side by side, BS3 allows 3 icons side by side (I think you get the picture!) Useful for displaying short branches and the lik. Mayalld 11:47, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I think you may need to pay some attention to the correct use of licencing, eg gwhfKBFg.

When creating a new icon from an existing one it is important to preserve any copyright conditions of the original. If the original has a GFDL licence then you need to preserve that GFDL on every derivative icon, mentioning the original author (or all previous authors) - giving attribution. This is a fundamental principle behind GFDL and no work based on a GFDL original can become public domain (unless you are the absolute creator in which case you could republish as PD).

When I create an original I use PD to make this process easier for others, but if I modify a previous work then I have to copy the original licence if it was not PD and credit the author. John Williams (engineer)

Hi. I am currently trying to reduce the number of UK Waterways stub-class articles, by adding content. I have just found the John Williams article, which has had one sentence since 2007, when speedy deletion was suggested, which you contested. I cannot find any more information about him, as he is not even listed in the ICE Biographical Dictionary of Civil Engineers. Do you still think it is worth keeping this article? Boat widths on Chester Canal

Hi. I saw that you listed your interests as including the Ellesmere Canal on the UKW project page, and wondered if you can throw any light on why the maximum boat widths for the Ellesmere / Chester section to Nantwich have steadily reduced. I think the locks are still their original width (at over 14 ft), but the current maximum width is quoted as 9 ft (Cumberlidge 2009, Nicholson 2006, etc). Regards.
