Gloranthan content

edit

Just a warning, from a fellow Gloranthaphile, about using wikipedia to map out lots of Gloranthan concepts: there's a risk that if you create lots of small pages people will call it fancruft, say it isn't encyclopediac and put in a Wikipedia: Votes for deletion motion on it. Some ways to avoid this are:

  • To write fewer, longer articles, with lots of subsections. Eg. an Elder races of Glorantha page rather than an Aldryami page;
  • To ensure that at least some of what you are writing relevant to people with little interest in Glorantha. When I did a big rewrite of the Glorantha article last September, I tried to put as many hooks as I could to the general role-playing audience. I'm guessing this would work well for the Maximum Game Fun article;
  • Lastly, wikipedia supports links to non-WP wikis. In fact, a Gloranthan wikicity might make a lot of sense: it would solve some technological problems that the whitewall wiki had;
  • And lastly an IP warning: content here should be GFDL compatible, and some Gloranthan content maybe is covered by the Issaries Fan Material Policy, which doesn't look very GFDL compatible to me;

Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but forewarned is forearmed and all that. --- Charles Stewart 20:54, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the warning. I'll watch out. For the most part I've been creating articles where only empty links were there before. Your point about Aldryami is well taken. It should be part of a greater article like you said, or even more generic in a section in the main Glorantha page.

A bestiary page may be more interesting to some other fantasy role-players, who are looking for ideas to steal for their bestiaries. Also, the Glorantha article could get quite long. Perhaps Creatures of Glorantha is the better page? Moving the Aldryami page to either of these names would be the best way to incorporate it, since it conserves the page history. --- Charles Stewart 08:14, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
