Gascoyne

In List of postcodes in Western Australia, there's an entry for Gascoyne River, separate from the Gascoyne Junction entry. I checked with Australia Post's postcode search and it does indeed show a locality called Gascoyne River.

I changed the entries but am now uncertain if I've done the right thing. Could you review plse. -- I@n 01:40, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Kangaroo paw

Hi, I noticed that Kangaroo paw confusingly discusses three species. The genus page Anigozanthos (which isn't bad) lists them all, but I would have though that all members of the genus would be commonly known as kangaroo paws due to the distinctive floral morphology. I'm not sure what to do here to clear up the confuction. Any ideas?--Peta 01:50, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Callitris glaucophylla

Hi Hesperian - thanks for the note; bit of a tricky one, as other authorities (e.g. Blake 1959, Proc. Roy. Soc. Qld. 70: 33-46; Farjon 2005, Monograph of Cupressaceae and Sciadopitys; followed online by e.g. IUCN) treat it as a synonym of C. columellaris, so it is a very disputed taxon. The reasons Blake and Farjon give for lumping seem fairly convincing; conversely, the grounds for splitting given by Thompson & Johnson (Telopea 2 (6): 731-736) seem decidedly trivial ("An inland species; foliage usually glaucous" for C. glaucophylla, vs. "A coastal species; foliage usually green" for C. columellaris); Farjon points out that mixed green and glaucous seedlings can derive from a single parent tree (and your photo shows a very green tree, too!). My inclination would be to accept the merge and move the wiki page to C. columellaris, but include some discussion of the case from both sides; I'll wait to see what you think before doing anything - MPF 09:49, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Its not explicit with reasoning for the non-inclusion in its denial, so Margana takes that literally as a lie. 2. Ah, forgot about that, you are completely correct, ignores is a highly loaded POV word now that I consider it. I'll also call the elections "disputed", which I think is a fair word. 3. There are about three or more rocks in wa that we can do something as well I think! I suppose the way to do it would be to give a thorough list of recommended topics in a recommended order,

I think there should be a template/guide with some items as essential/ other optional (maybe we should trawling other states to see what they do)

then let editors pick and choose what is relevant to their article. Something like:(where not essential but optional no comment)

Rocks

Other rocks? The Pinnacles spring to mind, and perhaps some of the Pleistocene cliffs along the river. Maybe a few historic quarries. What else? theyre all pebbles!

My Response: I am related to James Waterson Johnston Ex-convict school teachers in Western Australia He is Convict Number 5793. I have researched the records extensively over a period of 16 years.

I have edited the entry because the details given are incorrect and confuse the Ex-convict teacher James Johnston with another convict of the same name.I have a copy of the trial of James Waterson Johnston's trial - Ref: Scottish record Office Reference: JC4/64 He was sentenced to 10 years transportation, for robbery (NOT rape), in 1858.

You claim he was sentenced to eight years' penal servitude for rape in 1865. The Superintendent Order Books (AN 358, Acc 1156, SO7), held in the Battye Library Archives, clearly state on page 451 that James Johnston, Convict 5793, lithographer (lithographic printer), was received in the colony on February 15th 1861. Page 472 clearly states convict Number 5793, James Johnston lithographer, was transferred to Champion Bay (Geraldton/Dongara area) per schooner Favourite, on March 28, 1861. Note: This is four years before James Johnston, rapist, was sentenced and transported to the colony in the Norwood.

I am also confident that Rica Erikson, in her book The Brand on His Coat, does not identify the ex-convict teacher as the James Johnston who arrived on the Norwood. I will confirm this when I have a chance to view the book again.

Blocking

Your recent blocking of the user Bpazolli, a good friend of mine, was most insincere. The period of punishment was also severe for such minor infringements. Given that he is a gentlemen and protector of The Crown, this is quite an insult. He is also one of the few people dedicated to reforming wikipaedia and removing the vile filth that it currently contains. Please be more careful when blocking in the future.

P.S. Please do not block me as a sockpuppet of BPazolli. It has happened to me before, even when my user was created before the person's in question. I find it frustrating, annoying and rude. Thankyou.

Ethically, if the speleos dont want people to know - nor should we! I could give you chapter and verse on why some sites (rocks, caves etc) simply dont get identified on maps, it was an issue in my post grad fieldwork in Java. Interesting template. Unfortunately it is showing up in the categories Category:Year of birth missing and Category:Year of death missing. As it is quite complex (you appear to be something of a template expert) I did not want to touch it. At 7.30 am on news radio this morning! What a way to be driving Great Eastern Highway, and this comes on! ---extracted from News Radio website--- Presented by Kel Richards Can you imagine "snotty gobble" as "a well recognised delicacy"? Well, that's how they're described by the distinguished Australian writer Flora Eldershaw (1897-1956)... Is this expression "poetry, Ogden Nash, Monty Python and Dr Seuss rolled into one"? The expression "snotty gobble" does sound pretty revolting, but it turns out to be the name for several native shrubs (or trees) of the genus Persoonia. As variations the "snotty gobble" fruit was also known (sometimes) as "snotty gollion" or "snotty goblin". Not a great improvement, really. The name is first recorded from 1854. And, in case you're wondering, "snotty gobble" is described in one quotation I came across as "red berries". And, it seems, the tree that grew the berries had another use: its red-coloured inner bark could be used to produce a dye that colonial ladies used to dye straw hats a "vivid and lasting red". Professor Roly Sussex describes the name "snotty gobble" as "poetry, Ogden Nash, Monty Python and Dr Seuss rolled into one." I realise that he's done the west coast but we always had him as a south west person - port davey and the harbour on the south coast - its a long walk from macquarie harbour I can tell you.
