Or, you can just type {{helpme}} and your question on this page, and someone will show up shortly to answer. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

We hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Active Banana (bananaphone 21:31, 25 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Harold, please note the advice about signing talk page comments with the four tildes. (I see that you did so on your comment posted to my talk page.) When you do so, there's no need to post your name twice -- like this: "S. Rich – S. Rich (talk) 20:12, 24 June 2013 (UTC)"Reply

Thank you for pointing that out - I noticed it myself that immediately after posting

Manning petition edit

Hi Harold, please don't continue to restore the Manning petition. We would need to see evidence that reliable sources (e.g. newspapers) had discussed this, and even then it might not be something that editors would agree was worth including. If you want to suggest adding it, please start a discussion on Talk:Bradley Manning. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 19:09, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for responding so promptly - would extrinsic references to a Manning pardon suffice?Harold Darling (talk) 19:15, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure what that means, Harold. Would you mind starting a discussion at Talk:Bradley Manning? That way, other editors can join in. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:20, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Please note that I reverted an earlier edit for the petition with the notation WP:ELNO #4. I don't see how, absent consensus, addition of the petition can be justified. – S. Rich (talk) 19:23, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

June 2013 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would ask that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not on Talk:Bradley Manning. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Harold, at Wikipedia we simply assume that editors act in good faith with all of their actions. Nobody has to go and say "I'll be objective when I edit articles about such-and-such subjects." Nor should editors say "You didn't answer my question about being an objective editor." So, unless there is evidence to the contrary, we really don't raise the issue. I'll give you an example about my GF: I'm an atheist, but lately I've added some interesting and useful videos about books of the Bible to different Bible related articles. I have a POV, but I think it doesn't interfere with my ability to evaluate the value of those particular videos. Here are two examples of non-GF: an editor might add advertising links (spam links) to articles which promoted his/her business or an editor might seek to add disruptive edits using multiple usernames or IP address. In those cases, non-GF may be a factor. Unless we have evidence to the contrary, we simply AGF.S. Rich (talk) 14:37, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

—— I apologize —— I did not intend to imply that you were acting in bad faith - I'd imagine editors choose edit articles that are of interest and I was wondering why you took an interest in Manning's court martial 108.233.85.165 (talk) 15:57, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Interest in the military justice subject because of my long involvement in military law. Also, served in Iraq. Also, was once PFC S. Rich. – S. Rich (talk) 16:33, 27 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Signing posts edit

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), such as at Talk:Bradley Manning, please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. – S. Rich (talk) 16:30, 27 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
