AfD Nomination: Nicholas Waters

edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but all Wikipedia articles must meet our criteria for inclusion (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Since it does not seem to me that Nicholas Waters meets these criteria, I have started a discussion about whether this article should be kept or deleted.

Your opinion on whether this article meets the inclusion criteria is welcome. Please contribute to the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nicholas Waters. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them.

Discussions such as these usually last five days. In the meantime, you are free to edit the content of the article. Please do not remove the "articles for deletion" template (the box at the top). When the discussion has concluded, an administrator will consider all comments and decide whether or not to delete the article. High on a tree 00:49, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry if this deletion debate has upset you and gave you a rough start as a Wikipedia editor. It would probably have been wise to read advice like Wikipedia:Your first article before writing these two articles (this is linked from the article creation page), or to first gather some experience editing existing pages. (You seem to be interested in language and grammar, there are a lot of articles in that area.)
As you have indicated that you are personally acquainted with Mr. Waters, it might also be useful to have a look at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Autobiography, even if both should not be directly applicable. Regards, High on a tree 05:25, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nicholas Waters debate

You'd better cool it man. You said:

"If you look at the user page of this objector, TenPoundHammar, you will see that he is obviously doing this out of a grudge against anyone who disagrees with his prescriptivist grammar line. He writes: "This user considers singular they substandard English usage."

What the *(@#$ is that supposed to mean? Just because I consider "singular they" substandard, you think I have some sort of hidden agenda? I didn't vote delete for grammatical reasons at all -- and I never claimed to have a better knowledge of English than you do. So why don't you stop with the personal attacks right now, or I'll take this to the Wikipedia mods.Ten Pound Hammer • (((Broken clamshells • Otter chirps))) 03:00, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, I hope things have calmed down a bit by now, but I'd like to convince you that the assumption that TenPoundHammer came to this deletion debate "out of a grudge against anyone who disagrees with his prescriptivist grammar line" is quite far-fetched. Have a look at his contributions during the last day. You will see that he has commented on numerous different deletion debates from many different areas. He is in all likelihood just one of the many users who are reading through the Articles for deletion list each day, weighing in on discussions as they come along - not somebody with a "hidden agenda" against Mr. Waters. Don't take things personal, and assume good faith. Regards, High on a tree 05:16, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Eats, Roots & Leaves

I've reverted the article Eats, Roots & Leaves back to the best state after the AfD tag was added. Rather then deleting articles and replacing them with cyber political messages try finding sources and reason with other editors. Guycalledryan 07:57, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from blanking the page until the AfD process is complete 10:55, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

It is clear to me that you came to Wikipedia with the intention of contributing something that you felt would make it better. That says a lot about you and is a better thing than what we mostly get here, which is people writing "is gay" or "yo momma." Its frustrating to see an article you care about diced and slashed on AfD. I know that first hand and it nearly turned me off for good. Still, WP seems if nothing else an amazing experiment in internet culture and communication. All the best. Gaff ταλκ 20:00, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah bad luck, personally I would prefer Eats, Roots & Leaves over Eats, Shoots & Leaves anyday, but it's not notable enough yet. Consider adding a reasonable expansion on the Eats, Shoots & Leaves page. Guycalledryan 04:48, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
