Speedy deletion nomination of Arrow Lock and Door Hardware edit

A tag has been placed on Arrow Lock and Door Hardware, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. mhking (talk) 16:58, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

How does X work? edit

{{helpme}} I am setting up a Wikipedia page for Arrow Lock and Door Hardware. This is my first article and currently just have a sentence on what Arrow does and two pictures. One of the company logo, and one of a product they produce. When I uploaded the product, I got the message, marked for speedy deletion. My assumption is this may be due to the photo description, which I named Revolution poster. I work for Arrow and have the rights to post this image. It is my intent to make this and encyclopedia article and have been using other pages as a benchmark. I have seen company sites that have product images on there. Can you tell me if/how this needs to be changed? --Hacketjoe (talk) 17:12, 5 June 2009 (UTC) Help request moved here from the article talk page --A More Perfect Onion (talk) 17:21, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Welcome to Wikipedia! If the article you created was marked for speedy deletion, it wasn't because of the picture. It was probably because the article didn't prove that the subject was notable. I suggest you read the links I'm providing here, as you can resubmit the article (if it meets our requirements) and it'll stay :-). Articles also have to be neutral, and cite several third party, reliable sources to prove they meet our notability requirements. Hopefully this makes sense. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, on my talk page, or talk to us live. Killiondude (talk) 17:28, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
(e/c) Please work on this page at a subpage of your userspace. Since the page has been deleted, I have created a page for you, User:Hacketjoe/Arrow lock and door hardware, and placed the deleted content there (but changed all the uppercase capitalization for non-proper nouns to lowercase). Work it up into an article there and then, when you are ready to "go live", i.e., post this to the mainspace where articles are accessed, you can move it to a proper name. As to what you move it to, it strikes me that the article topic really should be Arrow Lock, rather than titled Arrow lock and door hardware—the subject is the company rather than their products. Now, you have a problem. It is that you are violating our norms since you have a conflict of interest in writing this article. You are involved with this company. Though this is strongly discouraged, rather than forbidden, you will get a higher level of scrutiny than otherwise (and rightly so). You must strive to write this from a neutral point of view. Avoid sounding promotional. Stick to the facts. Avoid peacock language. You also should be aware of our verifiability policy. Information in articles must be cited to reliable sources as Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, a tertiary source by definition. This goes hand in hand with our notability guidelines. The general guideline is at WP:N and a topic specific one relevant here is at WP:CORP. Basically, if you don't show that the world has taken note of the subject by substantive treatment in reliable, independent sources, it's not a suitable topic for an article. So fi you want this article to stick; to not be deleted, you need to cite sources, You need to show it's notable through those sources. And you need to not have the article sound like an advertisement. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 17:31, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your note: I've moved it to a more usual location on my talk page, which you can access by clicking on the word "talk" after my signature. In general, personal messages go on pages that begin with "User talk:". I see there's a considerable amount of material above and a couple of people are already trying to help you -- they have pretty much given you the same advice and made the same moves on your behalf that I would have done. No, it wasn't the picture, it was because of the lack of reliable sources and because there was no assertion of notability for the company. The deleted material has been placed into a sandbox page for you to work on, at User:Hacketjoe/Arrow lock and door hardware, and that's what I would have done for you. And Fuhghettaboutit above has informed you of our conflict of interest policy, which is also a key factor. I can't think of anything that I could add that would be of any more use to you, except perhaps to refer you to this page, which gives you some basic guidelines for how to approach your first article. If you have any further questions, I or anyone else who's left a message on this page for you will be happy to help, I'm sure. Accounting4Taste:talk 17:40, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Arrow Lock and Door Hardware edit

A tag has been placed on Arrow Lock and Door Hardware requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies.
