WikiCup 2023 May newsletter

The second round of the 2023 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to have scored 60 points to advance into round 3. Our top five scorers in round 2 all included a featured article among their submissions and each scored over 500 points. They were:

• Iazyges (1040) with three FAs on Byzantine emperors, and lots of bonus points.
• Unlimitedlead (847), with three FAs on ancient history, one GA and nine reviews.
• Epicgenius (636), a WikiCup veteran, with one FA on the New Amsterdam Theatre, four GAs and eleven DYKs
• BennyOnTheLoose (553), a seasoned competitor, with one FA on snooker, six GAs and seven reviews.
• FrB.TG (525), with one FA, a Lady Gaga song and a mass of bonus points.

Other notable performances were put in by Sammi Brie, Thebiguglyalien, MyCatIsAChonk, PCN02WPS, and AirshipJungleman29.

So far contestants have achieved thirteen featured articles between them, one being a joint effort, and forty-nine good articles. The judges are pleased with the thorough reviews that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.

Could we draftify Hajdučka Republika Mijata Tomića?

After discussion, elsewhere, it looks like I should have started by asking you, as the AfD closer:

"Hajdučka Republika Mijata Tomića" got deleted, or rather, merged/redirected into "Blidinje plateau#Hajdučka Republika Mijata Tomića", for 'lack of [documented] notability'. I was starting to look at what hadn't been but could be successfully made RS citations — somewhat disadvantaged by my not being a native reader of Croatian, Bosnian, or Serbian (the sources' languages) — when the original page died. I'd love to keep working on the article in draftspace, possibly under my userpage, to try to meet the notability requirements... but I don't want to just copy-and-paste the text, thus losing the previous editors' credits. Is it possible to copy the full file (credits/history included) either to "Draft:Hajdučka Republika Mijata Tomića" or to "User:.Raven/Draft:Hajdučka Republika Mijata Tomića"? Or else move it, and create a new redirect in its place? The version I'd need, the last before its being turned into a redirect, is [1] for the article; and the still-existing current version [2] for its talkpage.

@.Raven: The consensus of the discussion was clear. I do not think that, outside of new reliable sources with in-depth coverage being found, that working in the draft space will change the outcome in the near future. -- Guerillero ^{Parlez Moi} 10:25, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

Well, "new reliable sources with in-depth coverage" are exactly what I'd try to add – not brief passing mentions. The impression I've gotten is that newspapers in that region enjoyed filling space with photos of the costumed staff, and text about the curious customs; the Hajduk Republic seems to have been the journalistic equivalent of clickbait. One of my edits to that page before the AfD closure and merge/redirect decision was the addition of an over-3-minute Al Jazeera video report; for all AJ's controversies, I doubt anyone would deny it's independent of the Hajduk Republic and that motel. – .Raven  ^.talk 17:10, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

marriage license

hello, Guerillero! i had two questions regarding this article and the associated blurb.

• i noticed that the article appears to be inconsistent regarding whether the couple illustrated is either applying for a marriage license or signing one. are the sources similarly inconsistent? the source in the lebanon daily news states that the couple is "complet[ing] an application for a marriage license". i was unable to access the other sources. the blurb currently states that the couple is filling out an application. the article also states that the couple in the parody is signing a license rather than an application for one.
• also, this is a far more minor point, but i had trouble trying to understand what "the best possible deal for the town" could mean. how would one determine what that would be? looking at the cited sources, i noticed that the source in the berkshire eagle stated that the selectmen chairman "wanted to make sure it was in the best interests of the town". i am not sure if this was the basis for the "best possible deal" wording, but if so, i personally think that the meaning conveyed in the source is somewhat different.

@Dying: I have guests at my home and do not have easy access to my computer. I can't really take a look on my phone. My memory is that sources disagree on what the couple is doing, but everything is online if you want to check. As for the town, the line is a general summation of the newspaper article. no worries, Guerillero! i had figured that the sources likely disagreed on the first point. regarding the second, i wasn't sure if "best possible deal" was meant to be interpreted strictly or was supposed to be a hyperbolic description (e.g., "best day ever") and your response suggests to me that it was the latter.

regarding the infobox: you don't see the caption on my screen without a scroll. I just wonder about feelings, because infoboxes caused much heat in former times, and that seems over.
