Many articles have more than one stub tag. That is the only way many will get attention from people focussing on different fields. Please point to any Wikipedia policy that prohibits using more than one stub tag. Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 20:54, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Psychatric terms edit

LOL! Of course it's OK with me. You were right...I was doing new page patrolling. Wonder if there's a confusing psychaitric term for someone like me who plays cleanup on Wikipedia as a pastime? - Lucky 6.9 17:38, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Recent Changes Patrol edit

I just wanted to let you know a little bit about recent edit patrol, since it seems like you might be participating in it already. It is somewhat a thankless job, but if you are conscientious, you can do it in a manner that minimizes conflict, yet still helps maintain the reputation of wikipedia. Click on the link above to see some of the tell-tell signs of pages that need to be speedily deleted, nominated for AfD, merged, cleaned up, wikified or marked for copyright violation. You may not do everything. My personal, say, strengths are copyright violation and cleanup (I like clean formatting), and you will find others who are vandal patrolers, etc...

I highly recommend you familiarize yourself with Nominations for deletion, warning templates and speedy deletions. Users hate for their pages to be deleted (understandably so), so it's important to (1) be right, (2) leave good edit/talk comments and (3) warn users. I primarily warn if it looks like they made an innocent mistake or if the deletion tag is ambigous - but not all the time, as it isn't always necessary. If you have any more questions, just visit my talk page and ask. Happy patroling.--Esprit15d 20:05, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kyle Rote edit

Be sure to check somewhere (Google test if anything) before you start calling a subject non-notable. While the article wasn't written according to the Manual of Style, it can be edited into something worth keeping. Thanks! — TheKMantalk 21:16, 28 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I Just moved Jason morgan to Jason Morgan to correct the capitalization and I see that I have created a double redirect with a page that was deleted last month. This new age appears to be about a legitiamte soap opera character, so might not be the same topic as the one that was deleted. But now I don't know what to do. I noticed that you added the Wikify tag, so thought you might be able to help. Thanks for anything you can do. Time for me to go to work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wtwilson3 (talkcontribs)

Wtwilson3 edit

Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't looking for help expanding the article. I didn't write it, I just moved it, and I was just worried about the fact that a page of the same name, probably about a different person, was deleted last month. And when I moved the page, it created a double-redirect from the archived AfD discussion. I'm still learning my way around, and I hadn't been checking "What Links Here" (I'm checking now.) Also, sorry I forgot to sign, I'm a cab driver and was being rushed out the door by the dispatcher. Signing is one thing I learned to do early, I just forgot. Thanks for your time and your help. --Wtwilson3 18:43, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

So you just cant create a page highlighting a beloved bar in Gainesville? Im a little confused. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nickfsmith (talk • contribs) .

Oh wait edit

So what you are saying is that Wikipedia would find something giving the location of the bar and when it was founded acceptable, but not my opinion of it.? fill me in here The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nickfsmith (talk • contribs) .

Jewell edit

Hello: I would like to discuss the spelling of the name Jewell or Jewel.

I am a Jewell family genealogist in the US.

I have visited John Jewell's grave at Salisbury and the engraving on his tombstone has two L's

Over the years it has been spelled both with one and with two. I think the more common spelling is with two, especially the British seem to use two more often than one.

When you say Jewell is a common mis-spelling of Jewel I would say Jewel is a common misspelling of Jewell.

Hi there. I noticed you gave a {{subst:test1}} warning for this guy. He was given test3 a couple of days ago, so the next one should be test4, not test1. It looks like you're a long-serving vandal fighter, so I'm sure you're clued up about this, and that this was just a mistake, and that I've wasted the last five minutes typing this message to you. Oh well. Thanks for your time... =) -- gtdp (T)/(C) 00:36, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

You're correct:) That user has already given test3 9 hours ago. Does it really take 5 minutes to typing that message:) Thanks for noticing me.--Ugur Basak 00:41, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
No problem! To be honest, it's nice to see somebody else patrolling Special:Newpages for a change...and yeah, my typing's slow at the moment, it's almost 1:00am... need...sleep... -- gtdp (T)/(C) 00:44, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! I just wanted to talk to you about this IP address, and the amount of vandalism that it has (unfortunately) been doing. I'm a pupil at the school in question, and it saddens me to see this kind of behaviour against Wikipedia going on.

Since you appear to be a well-respected community member (and somebody who looks like a great candidate for the mop), I'd like to point you in the direction of a few websites and email addresses; the school website, the email address of the reception, and the email address of the system administrator. Feel free to send emails about the vandalism that has been going on, as it's very easy for them to find out who did it and punish them accordingly. If action is taken against the IP address by an admin, I'll let them know of these addresses too.

Thanks for your time, and I'm sorry that your time has been used up dealing with petty vandalism... -- gtdp (T)/(C) 16:35, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for those addresses. I will certainly keep them in mind if there are more vandals coming from the school. Vandalism-cleaning is a dirty work, but it has to be done. :) Thanks again. --Buchanan-Hermit™..CONTRIBS..SPEAK! 19:40, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available edit

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:29, 21 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hedda edit

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Hedda, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Replaceable fair use Image:Olivia-Hallinan-2005.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Olivia-Hallinan-2005.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 12:13, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Pegilogo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Pegilogo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 18:28, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Brmb logo.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Brmb logo.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --23:40, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
