Speedy deletion nomination of American Friends Service Committee Bookstore

edit

A tag has been placed on American Friends Service Committee Bookstore, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.   Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! I noticed that you recently added commentary to an article, American Friends Service Committee Bookstore. While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments are more appropriate for the article's accompanying talk page. If you post your comments there, other editors working on the same article will notice and respond to them and your comments will not disrupt the flow of the article. Thank you. Please don't create articles just to contest their previous deletion. The reasons for deletion have been repeatedly explained to you. Beeblebrox (talk) 22:18, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am not the admin who deleted the article, but I saw your question. You asked "I would to know why the page on the AFSC (American Friends Service Committee) Bookstore has been deleted. Yes it a store--and their is commerce involved in it. But the AFSC Bookstore is as I stated in my revision of the article--a tool to provide "education and information (that) are the key tools for engaging and changing "violence" of all natures' especially social, political and economic inequities everywhere in the world." I also stated in my revision that ". . .the AFSC Bookstore began first as a supplement to ground and give activist the philosophical, historical and economic understanding of the work they take on to change unjust elements in society."

The article was deleted as being about an organization for which there were no indication of importance according to WP:ORG. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, about things that are notable, & for which this can be shown by references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources. As I said, it was not I who deleted it, but if I had seen it, I probably would have done so also. It appears to be a local effort, not of the AFC in general, but of its South West Regional Office now in Los Angeles--the web site, which you had not mentioned appears to be [1]. The information you provided was about its purpose and programs, and the fact that it saw itself not just to sell books but for outreach in general--as do such organization bookstores in general. The suport for this was some unsourced anecdotes, in quotations, that look like they were taken from some other local publication.

In general, local branches of national organizations are not considered appropriate for individual articles at Wikipedia. They need to have done something special, and it needs to be reported in good sources. This applies all the more to individual projects of local organizations. Proposed deletion of Monty Bane

edit

The article Monty Bane has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Apparently non-notable actor, I can't fine any sources with significant coverage.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Oo7565 (talk) 15:48, 6 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
