I'm interested in seeing the climate data used to generate the data such what you use on Climate_of_Minnesota. It goes to an NOAA page, but there is no way that I can see to pull up those data tables on demand for other cities. In the past, I've found NOAA and NCDC to be very un-userfriendly when it comes to getting data that they have on their site; once it took me several days to try to find something that should've been very easy. I'm a bit of a climate statistics geek, and I'm glad to have yet another source of data at my disposal. (And one probably less likely to be corrupt than weatherbase.com, wunderground.com, and the CD I have here at home, and more user-friendly than worldclimate.com). You really picked a winner with that Winona place ... it's warmer than almost half of Iowa. I assume it's a microclimate phenomenon of some sort ... you see that a lot in the mountainous states but I guess sometimes it happens in the Plains states too. The tornado in Brooklyn Park near Roseville missed me by just a fluke so I went on about it on User:SMcCandlish's page if it matters. Some folks worry about things like killswitches probably because of games and fiction so when I heard the term, felt free to worry because it was real. I was told the man in the tree is the most famous arborist in the city of Saint Paul, as of about 2002 (would have to check), thus the photos because never again will I have a tree or enough to pay for work like that. He even fixed up the neighbors on one side, too late on the other. The website says it's just one guy's opinion, and it doesn't really a lot add to the article (the numbers speak for themselves!) Single-section subheaders are discouraged (1 Meteorological synopsis and 1.1 Forecasts) Maybe get a satellite image for that day? Or a picture of people cleaning up or someone important surveying the damage maybe. Or both! I know free images are hard to get, but it seems kinda monotonous with a whole bunch of damage pictures and not much else. Just those three for now, I'll get to some more later.-RunningOnBrains 06:59, 30 January 2009 (UTC) I did find some satellite images here, http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/misc/980329.html, but since it's not off a government server I don't know if we can use them. The images themselves came from a government satellite, but I don't know if someone can copyright their own enhancement of them or not. As far as different types of photographs, there are a ton here (http://www.crh.noaa.gov/mpx/?n=1998mar29photographs) but I don't see anything as being really outstanding. It's a lot of damage and that's about it. Images from University of Wisconsin Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies, which that first one is, are allowed on Commons, and so are allowed here (see {{UW-Madison CIMSS}}).-RunningOnBrains 04:23, 4 February 2009 (UTC) I'm still trying to figure out FA criteria myself but I can help out a bit :) With the tornado table, try not to use 0 mi for the distance traveled I'm not sure about the time policy for the severe weather project, but for the tropical cyclone project, UTC is preferred over local times. I think you're right - I'll change this. With the F1 tornado near Lionsdale and F2 tornado near Castle Rock, are you sure that there's no information for them? Being that this was the largest single day outbreak for MN in March, I would think that there would be substantial information on al the tornadoes. Yeah, I couldn't find anything. The Twin Cities NWS put a really comprehensive piece up last year, and nothing specific is mentioned in these either. Minnesota's location in the Upper Midwest allows it to experience some of the widest variety of weather in the United States. Winter in Minnesota is characterized by cold temperatures as low as −60 °F (−51 °C). Snow is the main form of winter precipitation, but freezing rain, ice, sleet, and occasionally rain are all possible during the winter months. Common storm systems include Alberta clippers or Panhandle hooks; some of which evolve into blizzards. Annual snowfall extremes have ranged from over 170 inches (432 cm) in the rugged Superior Highlands of the North Shore to as little as 10 inches (25 cm) in southern Minnesota. Spring is a time of major transition; snowstorms are common early, but by late-spring as temperatures begin to moderate the state experiences tornadoes, averaging 24 per year. In summer, humid conditions help kick off thunderstorm activity 30–40 days per year. Summer high temperatures as hot as 114 °F (46 °C) are possible. Autumn weather in Minnesota is largely the reverse of spring weather; the jet stream—which tends to weaken in summer—begins to re-strengthen, leading to a quicker changing of weather patterns and an increased variability of temperatures. Hog Farm Talk 19:38, 14 February 2021 (UTC) WikiProject Weather: Map Dot & Template/Infobox Colors Dear project member, This message is being sent out to encourage new ideas and feedback on those proposed in regard to the colors debate for WikiProject Weather. For those who are unaware of what's been happening over the last year, I will give a brief summary. We have been discussing proposed changes to the colors of the dots on tropical cyclone maps and templates and infoboxes across the entire weather project in order to solve issues related to the limited contrast between colors for both normal vision as well as the various types of color blindness (MOS:ACCESS). We had partially implemented a proposal earlier this year, however, it was objected to by a number of people and additional issues were presented that made it evident this wasn't the optimal solution. We tried to come up with other solutions to address the issues related to color contrast, however, none of them gained traction and no consensus was generated. We need your help and I encourage you to propose your own scale and give feedback on those already listed. Keep in mind that we are NOT making a decision on any individual proposal at this time. We are simply allowing people to make proposals and cultivate them given feedback from other project members. Please visit our project page for additional details.
