block

edit

would you care to explain what 'i' was blocked for? I had already spoken to someone else who warned me for this. told him that it certainly didn't come from me. this is a private household and private, secure ip address that no-one else has access to apart from me. i am having to use someone else's account to contact you as you don't provide an email address. my ip address is 90.220.37.70. thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smalllegsbigcock (talkcontribs) 22:20, 9 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Gladys, I don't like bringing this up to you, but I need to ask you yet again to please control your temper. Edits like this are unhelpful and unconstructive. block

edit

I've left a message on another admins' page, but as you may be online, and thus see this, can you please inform me how to contact a higher admin, as I will be making a complaint against you. You were quite happy to publicly defame me, and allow any visitor to read it, so I hope you have a good reason ready for this. I am now at a third address, as you blocked the previous two, so my talk page is now located at 90.220.37.95 I wait for your response. Thank you 90.220.37.95 (talk) 19:58, 10 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate you actually answering me. Please note, if you read what I stated when using a different account/IP, I said I was having to use a friends' account to respond because you had blocked me. I can hardly help what username he had picked to use. I was particularly annoyed at how you said it must have been me, questioning my integrity and accusing me of lying. If you, or anyone, wants to make personal attacks on me, then please do so knowing that there will be ramifications. Perhaps you can explain, as the other admins failed to do, why my IP was instantly blocked, with no warnings? I put to the other admins the question of why some users have numerous warnings on their accounts before an actual block occurs, and as far as I can tell, there were only two on mine? Thank you 90.220.37.95 (talk) 22:09, 10 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks once again for responding. At least I can say you are far more willing to talk about this than anyone else has been. Allow me to explain. The IP I'm currently writing from is not mine. I am at a friends' address because my IP was completely barred from editing on mine, or others' user pages. My IP address is static. I know this for a fact. Simply because a computer set up at my other address in Miami uses remote desktop, and I got my IT technician to programme it so that this would never change. If and when a similar attack on Wikipedia occurs, when my IP is enabled, perhaps this time I will be given the chance to respond. Of course, I see no reason why it should. I shall as a matter of interest check with my IP provider that my IP is still static. But it wouldn't make sense for it not to be, because I still receive the block message when I log in at home. 90.220.37.95 (talk) 22:53, 10 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
For the sake of ease, and to halt my annoyance, I have contacted my IP provider and they have slightly changed my IP address. My IT technician has confirmed there has been no breach to my security. Please note, contrary to what another admin said, I do not, and have not suggested, that I use wireless, so there is no chance of an unsecured network being attacked. Even if that were the case, I'm sure a hacker would find something better to do than post on Wikipedia.

Once again, people have taken my words apart and tried to create another meaning from it. From this, I presume either everyone is against me for some apparent reason, or they are that naive so plain English makes no sense. Yes, this IP address is from England. When did I suggest otherwise? If you all read my comments, you will see I said the IP I was blocked on was static, and I new this for a fact because I use remote desktop for my house in Miami. Therefore, it makes things a lot easier to keep everything fixed as then I don't have to keep changing numbers every time I want to access that computer. Considering that someone could potentially access that computer, and from that get into my house security system, I make a point of not allowing my IP address to be displayed anywhere. Hence, why I said I look on Wikipedia, but I don't edit. Surely my editing history shows that prior to this occurance I had never once edited previously. Someone suggested I create an account - but why? I have no need to post or edit on here, so creating an account doesn't seem a worthwhile use of my time. However, thank you for bringing this matter to the noticeboard. Although the comments made by others all once more are against me, now my IP has changed, I couldn't really care less about the matter. It does still surprise me though how people think I'm going through all this hassle to try and overturn a 1 day block just so I can start abusing again. Those people are either very narrow-minded, or just plain stupid. And finally, I ask where I made reference to 'evil brother's/sisters/pets' or whatever accessing my computer. That's just plain pathetic. Most of the admins on here did at least respond to me in a civil manner, but fair enough, you want to act like a five year old.

I understand that the majority of the above doesn't apply solely to you, but I can't be bothered wasting my time posting on their pages also, so I hope they will read this on your page instead. 90.220.37.72 (talk) 12:22, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad we have been able to amicably resolve this! As I hoped everyone would eventually understand, if I was a hardcore vandal, would a 55 hour block really bother me? If I was that desperate, I could use proxy servers, OR, not be so stupid as to have a static IP so a simple reset would generate a new IP, and away we go again. Perhaps all my ramblings led to the confusion, but it seems in the end you have finally figured it all out.

I'm sure had this been you, or anyone else, and you knew for a fact that no-one could have made those edits, the arguments I was going to were not really all that unusual.

With regards to how it happened, that's probably going to forever remain a mystery. Partly as a precaution my IP has been changed, as I said, but to my knowledge there has been no security compromise. My concern with that was my Miami computer controls the security system at the house, and someone discovering this IP could have hacked into this and opened the gates. I'm not too concerned about this, because we have security at the entrance/exit to the island, so no-one's going to be able to get there, but as I said earlier, I 'kept' my IP private for these reasons, so as soon as this cropped up, virtually anyone on Wikipedia could gain access. I'm not suggesting there's some huge cyber villains visiting here, collecting IP addresses and using them for remote desktop, that's probably just my paranoia, but you never know these days.

Anyway, I thank you once again for keeping this civil, and I am quite happy to complain about this no further. You have no worries about looking like an idiot if I start vandalising on this IP, firstly there's no way it's going to happen, but moreso than that, I think I'd look just as stupid! Please accept my apologies for all this. Regards 90.220.37.72 (talk) 20:00, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I wish I could say the island was my own private one, but I'm not that rich unfortunately! My holiday home is on Sunset Island, so the security thing I mentioned is the little hut and barrier as you approach/leave. As well as being a teacher, I was also the director of the company who owned the school (a nice little place called Claremont in East Sussex). Add to that, owning a hotel which Duncan Bannatyne bought off me as he wanted to convert it into a spa, and things sort of went quite well.

I don't know that I could offer 'advice' as such, for merely it was merely luck. When I bought the school and hotel, the UK economy wasn't that strong, and plus it was a long time ago, so when I sold them, the profits were huge. Add to that, your US economy was doing just as bad when I bought the Miami house, so in effect the price the house was up for, in $, was halved in £. It's proving quite lucrative at the moment, even when we are meant to be in a recession, because you get all the wannabe rich kids desperate for a piece of the 'high life' as they like to call it, so you'd be amazed at what people are prepared to pay for a couple of weeks' stay on a private island.

But I have worked almost 50 years for this, so it's not as though I was born into wealth, just a nice reward to see off my final years is how I see it. I'd say that during these sort of times, there's still a hell of a lot of money to be made, so long as you can handle the risk of losing. I don't know how your stock market is doing, guessing badly if it's anything like ours, but there's always a little hidden gem in there somewhere. If you know where to look. Or are just lucky!

It's good to know we can put this to rest. I give you my promises you won't be seeing any edits from me trying to impersonate other admins or anything! Regards 90.220.37.72 (talk) 23:52, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sandbox monitor

edit

I appear to have done something wrong in a sandbox -- see User talk:Tenmei#User:Tenmei/Yōzei.

I'm guessing that someone with sandbox monitoring experience might be just what the situation calls for. Unfortunately, I see that you spend your days with young scholars who are a little bit above the age group I had in mind. Can you suggest how to reach out to someone else amongst your Wikipedia peers -- someone whose work experience is with a much younger age group? --Tenmei (talk) 17:45, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to have to agree with Theresa here; I'm not entirely clear on what you're asking me to do. I believe you're trying to make an ironic connection between the concept of the Wikipedia "sandbox" with the common connotation of "sandbox" as a place where small children interact--in which case I'm not sure there's anything to be done, am I correct? Blanking of content by User:PCPP on Reports of organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners in China

edit

Hi. Just wanted to bring this edit to your attention. The user has engaged in such removal of sourced and centrally relevant content almost every single time he touched the article. Very often, as was the case this time too, he doesnot bother giving even an edit summary, let alone discuss on talk page. Just a few minutes before blanking half of the article, he had blanked 5K of content( again, with no discussion) from a related topic. This user has engaged in such removal of sourced and relevant content, several times on the same(and also on related) page(s) - a previous instance of blanking on the same page, I document here.

Hi Gladys. I've just replaced the intext hidden warning you added to the Caillou article. Fallow thread

edit

Thank you for your patience in waiting until I could re-visit User:Tenmei#User:Tenmei//Yōzei.

The simplest way to summarize the gravamen of issues is with the words of George Santayana -- "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Although it may have seemed obscure to you, the fact of the matter was that I didn't understand enough in the context of an edit User:B made -- not so much that there was confusion about matters of right or wrong, but rather more to do with what I just didn't understand well enough. In other words, I would have been amongst those condemned to repeat past mistakes because I couldn't quite see how to mitigate avoidable future problems. --Tenmei (talk) 21:34, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Personally, I've always felt the place was a bit...excessive. I think I've tidied it up some, so I'm removing the cruft tag. HalfShadow 23:28, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'd actually been meaning to do that for a while, I just hadn't gotten to the point where I could decide how best to do it. As I said: there's just too much info; anyone other than a fan doesn't require (or necessarily care) about a lot of it. I think I've cleaned it up to the point where I've kept most of (if not all) the needed stuff and deleted the stuff that's just taking up data space (for instance, is it strictly necessarily that someone needs to know exactly how often a certain character was in the show?) Your observation on Guy

edit

Your observation on Admin Guy is correct. He nurtured/participate/judged a community ban on Naadapriya mainly because he did not personally liked a message posted on users page that was not in violation of wikipedia guidelines. Also you see similar un-Admin acts here. Since he is repeating his unethical Admin acts again and again he may need a notice more serious than a just a warning. Also sincerely hope that some Admin will undo the damages caused by Guy to wikipedia. 76.212.3.119 (talk) 17:21, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rude and/or vague

edit

Theresa Knott has quite often construed my words as "rude." Please review the following and suggest a better way to avoid being perceived as unhelpfully rude.

In an effort to be "diplomatic," I have more often achieved merely "vague" ... and I would appreciate comments about this problem as well. In order to "find my own voice," I obviously need to learn to avoid being perceived as rude and/or vague.

If this question is better addressed to someone else, okay. In that case, would you suggest someone else to whom I should have reached out? --Tenmei (talk) 18:20, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

edit

Gladys, I don't care what anyone else says, you're a marvelous human being. ;)

Thank you thank you thank you for protecting Sesame Street. What is it about children's articles that bring out the adolescents? I know, probably it's the fact that adolescents are actually doing the vandalism, and they're familiar with the topic. I'm sorry that you seem to have to deal with it, simply based upon your interests. I can relate. I even put a tag on Talk:Blue's Clues after reverting for the millionth time vandalism about how Blue is a boy or that Steve Burns left because he died of a drug overdose. It can be so tiresome. The SS article is so bad, it's gotten out of control. There's no way to tell what's vandalism at this point. It needs a complete overhaul. My goal is to eventually have it back to FA, but I'm in the middle of other stuff plus RL concerns right now.

For some reason, everytime I see you around the proj', I picture you as Gladys the Cow on The Show. And that's not meant as an insult, but as a compliment, really! She's such a cool character, with her single-minded determinism and classy personality. Too bad there's not a free image of her to put on your User page. ;) --Figureskatingfan (talk) 19:44, 16 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

edit

You threatened to block me for clarifying information in the Don't!Buy!Thai! article. The article as written makes it seem that Sean Parlaman was a legitimate crusader for children's rights. This makes it seem as though his accusations against the organization might have some merit. I edited it to say "con man pedophile Sean Parlaman". I assumed this to be fair. Parlaman is unarguably a con artist and a pedophile. For example, to quote from the FIRST SENTENCE of his own article...

"Griffith Simmons Parlaman III ... was a con man and paedophile..."

And the rest of the article supports these statements.

Since the man is indisputably both of these things, shouldn't that be added into the article of an anti-child prostitution orginization he was attempting to stop? Personally, I fail to see how this could be considered defamatory or irrelevant. I truly believe the information about Parlaman is necessary to the article. How would you suggest I work it in to avoid "defamation"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.197.166.162 (talk) 19:28, 3 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just a note

edit

Hey, I'm not sure if you had a chance to revisit the thread you began, but I just wanted to clear up a fairly common misconception regarding block notices; users are actually permitted to blank them from their page even while blocks are in place. I used to think otherwise as well. See here for the very few exceptions to the blanking rule. I just thought I should point this out as someone was following your lead on that particular page. cheers, –xeno (talk) 19:26, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Probably. followup might be a good idea... as far as the rule, I always thought it was a good idea for those to stay during the block as well, but never had the energy to argue it. someone may have given me a good reason, I can't remember it now. –xeno (talk) 23:09, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Dr. Wonder's Workshop

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Dr. Wonder's Workshop, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Short-lived (only 13 episodes, with no new episodes produced in the last year) show lacking any third-party coverage (per WP:NOTE, in article or discernible from {{find}}) & consisting of little more than Character/Episode lists (WP:IINFO)

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
