Personal attacks

edit

Please do not make personal attacks as you did at Ingrid Giraffe (My Gym Partner's a Monkey). Wikipedia has a strict policy against personal attacks. Attack pages and images are not tolerated by Wikipedia and are speedily deleted. Users who continue to create or repost such pages and images in violation of our Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policy will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Thank you. -- pb30<c.t> 06:03, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Solo article.

edit

I don't what attack page by which you speak. I just thought of it cool to give a small segment an article of it's own. This has been done in other pages eversince.

License tagging for Image:Efren Reyes.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Efren Reyes.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Re:Attack Pages?

edit

Sorry, the page didn't have enough context to explain what it was about. You may want to propose splitting the section using {{splitsection}} and explain the article a bit more. -- pb30<c.t> 13:45, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability of Ingrid Giraffe (My Gym Partner's a Monkey)

edit

A tag has been placed on Ingrid Giraffe (My Gym Partner's a Monkey), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you feel that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Wildthing61476 13:57, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

Please stop uploading images with descriptions like "Got from disk"; that doesn't mean anything to anyone. Either they need to be pictures you took, pictures so old copyright no longer applies (i.e. before the early 1920s), or pics that are licensed appropriately. I'll be quite happy to talk with you in more detail about the licensing requirements if that would help. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 09:20, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Dennis Orcollo.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.--Strangerer (Talk) 09:07, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I honestly don't know how to put on those so-called on the images I put on pages. I just know how to put images just to make the page look good. Like most the images I put, the one of Dennis Orcollo and Lee Van Corteza come from a photo gallery from www.worldpoolchampionship.com (2004 edition). This means those pics are rather old and it's unlikely that they still have any copyright.
  • 2004 is not rather old. Images published in the United States before 1923 are old. The images you uploaded are probably copyrighted. If the website you found them on does not explicitly say that the images are released under a free license or into the public domain, you have to consider them copyrighted and unavailable for use. You could consider emailing the photographer and asking them to release it under the GFDL, though. Take a look at this page Wikipedia:Image use policy, this page Wikipedia:Image copyright tags, and this page Wikipedia:Copyrights. Your images will probably be deleted unless you can show they are free to use. --Strangerer (Talk) 11:24, 12 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
You cannot simply take images off of random disks or photo galleries you have. Someone owns those images (whether they are on paper or on a hard disk). They do no belong to you, and they do not belong to Wikipedia. I realize you are trying to help by just, well, finding pictures and uploading them, but you are are not helping by doing that. You are directly wasting the time of many people who have to clean up after the mess you are making. Please just stop doing that. And don't hesitate to contact me directly if you are really keen on contributing to Wikipedia but haven't figured out how yet. I can direct you to the right places for whatever you are good at. As for the pool pictures, if you are not going to professional and taking photographs yourself, then you are not in any position to be "giving" photographs to Wikipedia from such events. I know you mean well, but you've been making a mistake. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 12:38, 13 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is not a sports-fan magazine

edit

Plase read WP:NPOV (just click on that link there). You simply cannot add language like "Okumura's sign of glory". This is not a fan magazine, or a TV show, or a newspaper. It is an encyclopedia, with a formal, even dry, tone, and nothing but the provable facts, never opinions. Ain't no blog. :-/ — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 12:45, 13 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Willie Hoppe.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Willie Hoppe.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 00:23, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Giraffeboy: If you can demonstrate that you understand the nature of this block and why uploading every other random image you come across is a Wikipedia copyright policy trangression, I'll be happy to nominate you for a rapid unblocking. Your textual edits have struck me as well-intentioned and good-quality contributions, although you need to read and understand WP:V and WP:CITE, our policy and how-to guideline, respectively, on proving reference citations for what you want to add. You don't yet seem to understand that this is an encyclopedia, not a blog, and has stringent standards. If you absorb that, I have no doubt you'd be a quite able Wikipedian. PS: It would help a whole lot if you not only noticed and read but communitcatively responded to posts on your talk ("discussion") page. To date your only use of talk pages at all appears to be adding {{unblock}} to this page. This is not a good sign around here. Engage other participants. Address their concerns (and feel free to raise those of your own); draw others in to help you, and help others get where they need to go with the articles they are working on. Wikipedia is a collaborative effort (perhaps the largest of all of human history), and collaboration necessarily requires communication. Consider my talk page always open for questions.
PS: I've added a big "Welcome!" template to the top of your talk page. It has many informative links about Wikipedia editing that are worth reading in detail. They can save you a lot of frustration and wasted time.

Unspecified source for Image:BWA.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:BWA.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 07:52, 22 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 07:52, 22 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Karate Kat.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Karate Kat.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:14, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
