Experience and the Teahouse

edit

Hi, Gibboboy777. I'm a long time host at the Teahouse and I thought I'd drop by and discuss some things with you. The purpose of the Teahouse is to aid and encourage new editors by giving them a friendly place to get solid, accurate advice in language that they can easily understand, with the desired end result to be encouraging editors to get over the initial hump in the steep learning curve here and stick around and be productive.

You are encouraged to ask as many questions as you need to accomplish those goals for yourself. We all want to help you become a great Wikipedia editor who may be at the beginning of a lifelong hobby, editing Wikipedia!

However, I am going to ask you please to refrain from answering questions until you have much more experience. This edit is very troubling. The article you advised Mazda1973 was just fine was nothing even close to it. The article as it stands now will most likely get deleted. There is nothing on it that shows notability. Every single source is somehow associated with her. I noticed you have created two articles, one of which was speedy deleted and the other of which has no references on it. You obviously have no understanding of notability, the criteria we use to decide whether a subject is worthy of an article. You have made less than 200 total edits and only 55 have been to actual articles. Let me ask you something. Do you think getting advice from someone that the article they wrote was fine, only to have it deleted, is something that will help Wikipedia retain good editors?

Please continue to ask lots of questions. You can come to my talk page and ask things any time you want. I am very busy in real life, so I may not respond right away, but you can trust that I will respond, that I will give you accurate advice, and if I do not know something, I will refer you to someone that does. Please tho, do not answer any more questions at Teahouse until you have at least 500 edits to articles. Here is a link to a tool that will show you the details of your edit history. Keep plugging away! Your enthusiasm is to be commended! Best of luck and Happy Editing! John from Idegon (talk) 18:36, 24 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • @John from Idegon:Thanks for your opinion! I will be a bit more experienced when I come back to the teahouse. Happy editing! Gibboboy 25 June 2015 10:05 UTC

Parkland Junior School

edit

I appreciate that you created the Parkland Junior School article, but the convention on Wikipedia is that the overwhelming majority of primary schools are not notable enough to warrant their own article. The very few exceptions have sourced content which proves notability (very old, famous former pupils etc). If you have no additional content to add to this article then it should not be created. If you decide to revert again and recreate the article I will have to take it to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion where the article is very likely to be deleted and/or redirected any way. - Bleaney (talk) 17:46, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

New deal for page patrollers

edit

Hi Gibboboy777,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
