Helene Joy

edit

Please note that Wikipedia has an explicit rule, spelled out in our policy about privacy of personal information, against including people's birthdates in their articles without a reliable source for that information — and it's especially critical in cases, such as at Helene Joy, where people have been editwarring over conflicting birthdates. Birthdate information is certainly something we like to include in an article when we can, but it is not so critically important that we're allowed to include it without a proper source for the information. If you readd it again without a proper source, I'm locking the page down so that you can't edit it at all. Bearcat (talk) 18:15, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hey - I find this hard to believe originally because May 27 is of course not her birthday. I'm her publicist. Is that reliable enough?

Thanks Renna — Preceding unsigned comment added by Getreddie (talkcontribs) 19:03, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

No, it isn't. We require published verification in media, not unsourced assertions of private insider knowledge. People have actually claimed personal knowledge in order to insert deliberately false information into Wikipedia, so we can't just take "I know the subject personally" as enough evidence in and of itself to retain content that isn't verified by media coverage. Just as an example, there's another prominent Canadian actress whose publicist repeatedly tries to insert a birthdate that has her taking her first major role at the age of just 13, even though she's verifiably at least in her 20s if you actually watch the movie. People can and do lie about their birthdates for various reasons, so "I know her personally" isn't an adequate "source" if media coverage isn't present to support the statement — and even if she came here to add it herself, that still wouldn't be enough sourcing, because that's also a thing people have lied about in order to insert false or even libellous claims into Wikipedia too. I have journalists using wikipedia to source her birthday and of course, it's incorrect. Yes, that's bad journalism however her birthdate has now become an issue and I had to remove publicity -which I never want to do- because of their snafu. I would just like the correct one up there. She would like the correct one up there. Even though her birthday isn't listed on wikipedia anymore, it still shows up if you google it and sites wikipedia as the source. I'm trying to upload a screen grab and I have an error message. Is there anyway to change that? Thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Getreddie (talkcontribs) 02:22, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Hélène Joy, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use the sandbox for that. Thank you. Hey Walter,

Thanks so much for the info. However the information provided, though printed in a "source" is not correct. I was simply editing that fact.

Welcome!

Hello, Getreddie, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome!   Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia without adequate explanation, as you did at Hélène Joy, you may be blocked from editing. Thank you. Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:10, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to update the article, moving content that is old into the past tense, but do not remove content, particularly if it's referenced. Be sure to add references for any new content you add. Contact @Bearcat: or me if you would like help with the intricacies of editing here, or any other editor using the {{help}} template.
Also, WP:OVERLINK argues against linking nations such as Canada. Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:13, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • pls, help me and take this seriously. This is a matter of personal safety to remove her location and the mention of her boyfriend (which was incorrect to begin with).
    • I am taking this seriously, but you have to take WP:V seriously as well. The source states in a machine translation " 2 / Australian first of all! Helene Joy is a native of Perth, on the west coast of Australia, where she spent most of her career in Canada, where she has lived for more than ten years. She studied at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts before flying to the caribou country ... By love! It was in fact to follow her boyfriend of the time that she left her native land for Vancouver then Toronto. She decides to try her luck as an actress, a profession for which she devotes a real passion ... ". Bad publicist at the time? Language issue by Nathalie Théault? That source also supports that she was a vegetarian. I removed Toronto as it's not supported. Check the changes. If you remove content again, I won't revert you, but someone else might, and then you have deal with the three revert rule. Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:49, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

More like no publicist at the time. Thank you for this support. I'll try a different route to remove the content in a different way more in line with wikipedia's info.

Speedy deletion nomination of Nick Reynoldson

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Nick Reynoldson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Thank you. Although the previous photo that was deleted was photo and she does not want to release personal information associated with the copyright. It's her personal photoshoot with her photographer Susan Findaly. Information that was supplied.

I'm trying to correct all the infactual information on this page and it's proving to be difficult and flawed especially sighted in the article are false or interviews she's never given. She's been very vocal about her dislike for this editing process on her social media pages. Is there anything that can make this process easier? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 45.42.9.45 (talk) 15:31, 11 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Photo of Hélène Joy

edit

I'm sorry Ms. Joy doesn't like the photo. I'm not fond of it either. Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons states that biographies should be written with regard for the subject's privacy and personal information may be removed to protect privacy. That does not apply to photographs. The previous photo was deleted because no copyright information was available for it and the project does prefer to use photographs. Since that photograph is available, it will continue to be used until a better photo is supplied. She is welcome to upload a new photo and release that photo using an acceptable copyright either during the upload or OTRS (which is described in Wikipedia:Volunteer Response Team). Undisclosed paid editing

edit

Hello Getreddie. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Getreddie. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Getreddie|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message.

You have previously stated that Hélène Joy is a client; if any of the other article subjects you have created or edited are also clients, it is mandatory that you declare this. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 04:53, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
