Hi, You seem to be on the verge of an edit war at this article. "Adaptation" is standard in this sort of article, whereas "characteristic" almost suggest that the features appeared without any evolutionary reason. I assume from your user name that you are trying to impose this view on the article without any scientific referencing, just forcing your opinion. This is a Featured Article, and changes need to be referenced in any case. If you are not happy with this, please discuss on the project talk page.
