Current Employment:

Prof. Gazi Mahabubul Alam, FRSA, PhD is currently working as the Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Science and Technology (CUST), Dhaka. With a vision of preparing CUST as one of the top universities in the Southern Asia, he has been playing a very crucial role with the support of every corner especially from the legislative and controlling bodies, and BoT. In order to instil the factual concept of university with the sector of private Higher Education (HE), he is taking some well-timed decisions. He deeply acknowledges the supports and hard works of everyone to implement those challenges. Since its birth, the CUST has started gaining the confidence from the inside and outside to become a trendsetting University for the society. Prof. Alam also possesses a number of positions in different professional bodies. Of which, President of the Asian Council of Science Editors (ACSE) is worth mentioning.

Past Employment:

Prior to his current appointment, Prof. Alam has worked as a Professor of Public Policy and Governance narrowing to Education sector. In addition to his professorial role, he served as the Chief Consultant of the Academic Performance Enhancement Unit, University of Malaya (UM). His key role as the Chief Consultant was to support the VC in uplifting UM global ranking through enhancing research activities and collaboration amongst industries, stakeholders and international partners. He was also responsible to ensure an increased performance of every school of UM with a key focus to social science, Education and Business schools. Additionally, he acted as one of the planners for the establishment of new school, centre and unit. Gazi has a remarkable work experience both in the institution of higher education and in international development sectors. Main countries of his work experience include Bangladesh, Malaysia, UK, USA, and Australia.

Publication:

Gazi has published a significant number of articles in international peer-reviewed journals. Although, he is a social scientist, he has conducted researches in Multi-disciplinary areas. In 2014, Gazi received the award of Fellowship (FRSA) from the Royal Society of Arts. He also received the award of best scholar at the area of education economics and policy from the Science Digest in 2011. In addition to these, his paper on private higher education received the best citation award in the year of 2011 (http://www.sciencewatch.com/dr/fmf/2011/11janfmf/11janfmfAlam/) from the Thomson Reuters (ISI/WoS). His works: The Role of Technical and Vocational Education on National Development of Bangladesh and The Role of Agriculture Education on National Development of Bangladesh are widely cited and internationally recognised research papers. Gazi has been actively involved with both theoretical and practical branches of Development Studies. As part of his career with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), he was one of the main contributors in drafting Skills Development Policy for Bangladesh. Gazi received the best presenter award from the Finance, Economics and Global Business Research Conference, Miami, Florida for a paper entitled: The Role of TVET for the Deployment of Maldives in December 2012.

Prof. Gazi has published a significant number of ISI indexed journal articles and these articles have received a notable amount of citations. Gazi’s H-index with Web of Science as a scholar is 13 in his area of expertise.

Area of Expertise:

In addition to the areas of education, economics and business, Prof. Alam has published works in the areas of School Management, Work place productivity, linkage between Workforce and Education, Agro-economics, Climate Change, Animal Health, ICT & Science and Technical and Technological Education. He has a wider experience; working as editor for many internationally reputed journals. Under his guidance, many journals have achieved good standard and accreditation. He is the Editor in Chief for The International Journal of Applied Economics & Finance and Journal of Applied Science.

Prof. Alam has been identified as an influential speaker for seminar, symposium, workshop, training and classes. He can strongly stimulate the audience while he talks various issues especially education & development, philosophy of education, education business, public and economic policy, education economics and policy, research methodology, writing manuscript and professional development. With a vast, wider and multi- disciplinary experience in research, teaching, and education background, Prof. Alam can serve the need of various schools/faculties (i.e. School of Education, School of Business and Management, School of Economics and School of Public Policy and Administration).

Education:

Mr. Alam received his MBA in 1999 from the USA. Further to the MBA, in order to work in the area of Education, he later studied MA in International Education & Development in 2003 at the University of Sussex, UK. Dr. Gazi Mahabubul Alam obtained PhD from the University of Nottingham, UK in 2007 in Education Policy and Governance.

Birth and Family :

Proud to be a Bangladeshi with his root in Khulna, Gazi is grateful to Almighty to be the 5th fortunate child of six; of his most remarkable poor farmer parents; Mohammad Enayet Hossain Gazi and Ashia Begum. He owes due credits to his siblings for their constant supports. He is blessed by Almighty in providing him a wonderful supportive wife and a daughter.
