Can you help verify translations of articles from Farsi edit
Hello,
Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Farsi to English Wikipedia?
This would involve evaluating a translated article on English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Farsi article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:
There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including Farsi , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Farsi. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.
If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:
All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Farsi article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)

- As to your question about more pages to look at, if you want to look at more of them, here is the complete list (ignore the numbering, that's just our reference number):

- Just to be clear about a couple of things: we're evaluating the English article by comparing it to the Farsi, to see if it's correctly translated. But it's not about completeness, only accuracy. So for example, if the English article is one paragraph long, but the original Farsi is 20 paragraphs, that's still a Pass, as long as the one paragraph that got translated was translated accurately. So this is not about "completeness" (or verifiability, or notability) but strictly about whether the English article represents a faithful translation of the original. So, as you go through them, marking an article {{Pass}} means the English translation accurately represents the original that it came from. (Feel free to add additional comments on the ones that {{Fail}} about what's wrong with them, but you don't have to; just the Pass/Fail marker is enough.)
- The other point to keep in mind, is that it's more important at this point to rate as many of these articles "pass" or "fail" as we can . If fixing articles slows you down, it's more important to rate them all and then come back and fix them later, than just fixing a few now and not rating them all. But in the end, this is a volunteer encyclopedia, so you can do what you like best, and your efforts are appreciated! Please let me know if you have any other concerns or questions. Just one thing: I realized that the instructions about marking pass/fail were not clear. That's my fault, sorry! Rather than mark up the articles themselves, we'd like people to indicate the pass/fail right here on their talk page, either inline, right next to the article title, or in a new section below it, whichever is easier for you. Sorry for any confusion! You don't need to do anything now; I'm going to fix the pass/fail marker at the article, so don't worry about that one. I've copied your "pass" mark to the list above.
