Here [1] you make a claim that an editor committed copyright violation. I checked the source and can see no such evidence. Copyvio is an extremely serious charge to make against another editor and it should be explained. Can yo please let me know why you think this was a copyright issue?  // Timothy :: talk  17:08, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

It was copied from the source including the word "extinguished". It's not a standard or common word used by modern sources about genocide, so copying is a reasonable assumption for how it ended up in the article. (Destroy is the standard modern lingo. They were equivalent in meaning in pre-Convention debates but as you most likely are aware, "intent to destroy" has been adopted and is now established language). I'm surprised that you don't think directly copying from a source is a copyright issue. Gators bayou (talk) 17:27, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
What you are describing is not a copyright violation and I have confirmed this with the source. You need to read the guidelines and not repeat this very serious charge against another editor in error. I have restored the text.  // Timothy :: talk  17:35, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Well, I think you're wrong and I object to your accusations here. The source says "Armenian existence was extinguished". The article says "Armenian existence had been extinguished". Further discussion is appropriate only on the article talk page. Gators bayou (talk) 17:55, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • I could understand considering this close paraphrasing due to somewhat similar wording as the source. However, there's a balance between being faithful to the source (as required by WP:V) and being too faithful. There's also a difference between WP:COPYVIO and WP:close paraphrasing: a couple words that are similar may be close paraphrasing but not copyvio, which would usually require copying several words in a row exactly from the source. I support that you're wanting to stay faithful to the source Buidhe, it is something we all contend with where to draw that line. The great benefit of working on a collaborative project is the input of others. Gators bayou (talk) 18:42, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

"the author's views on the influence of"

edit

Literally no reviews state that Ihrig is just writing about his own views. They all say that he is writing about actual influences and historical events. (t · c) buidhe 19:10, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Oh. Sure, I guess that's ok then. It's still a new work and far from established. Very rarely is this type of groundbreaking work accepted in full. It puts us in a bit of a bind how to address it here before the full process of publication and response has played out, but we have to give the reviews some deference too because they are the only secondary we have right now. I guess we can change things later if we have to. Would you mind starting these discussions at the article talk page in the future? Gators bayou (talk) 19:16, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
