Re: Your apology

edit

Thanks! Apology accepted, and welcome to wikipedia! Everyone makes mistakes now and then and say stupid things we don't really mean. Don't worry about it anymore.

I'm appending the standard welcome template below. It has some links to pages you might find usefull if you want to contribute to wikipedia.

Welcome!

Hello, Gators222, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes I am a Wikipedia administrator. You can check if someone is an administrator by visiting Special:Listusers and searching for their username. "Sysop" indicates that someone is an administrator.--Commander Keane 22:44, 6 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I like both of those teams, although I like the Longhorns significantly more. I'm not an administrator, but I may be able to help you if you need something. Do you need anything? —bbatsell ¿? 22:42, 6 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Those are called userboxes. You can add the Longhorn box by adding User longhorn to your user page. —bbatsell ¿? 22:50, 6 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Thank You

I have no idea what you are talking about. But don't leave messages on peoples user pages. Also editing other peoples user pages here and here, plus deleting valid comments can be considered vandalism. So please don't do that again. Thanks. Attacks

edit

If you are warning a vandal you must not use personal attacks nor claim that you are going to ban someone as you are not an administrator. And as was mentioned before warn them on the talk page not on the user page. But most of all stop with the personal attacks. That sort of thing can get you blocked. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 00:22, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was away all day and was not able to reply until now. When warning vandals look at the templates and informtion available Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol and Template:TestTemplates. Also just because some admins use it does not mean to say it's correct. Read Wikipedia:No personal attacks. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 05:09, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

<div class="usermessage"><div class="plainlinks">You have new messages (diff).</div></div>

Instead of using my spoof page (User:SWD316/haha) create one of your own. If you want me to do it, that will be fine, you know where to find me. ;-) SWD316 talk to me 00:49, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Esperanza

edit

Yes, I am a member of Esperanza. SWD316 talk to me 00:37, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Actually, you might not qualify for membership for Esperanza yet. But you will be added to the list of members under the title "Users who want to join but don't meet the membership requirements yet". In regards as to what Esperanza does, in a nutshell, Esperanza is here to relax users from everyday stress and the stress they feel on Wikipedia. SWD316 talk to me 00:49, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Read Esperanza Membership requirements. The only thing I'm worried about is your fairly new to Wikipedia and you may not 150 edits yet. In fact I'll check now...
Upon looking you have 126 edits, almost enough, but not quite enough yet. You have only been under this account since 1/30/06. But that's also almost enough to be in Esperanza. Just wait until the Esperanza elections are over and you'll surely be allowed to join! SWD316 talk to me 01:41, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
As I said before, 150 edits are required before being allowed into Esperanza. Not to worry though, you have more than 135, you should get those other edits in no time! :-) SWD316 talk to me 02:20, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Template:Shanes

edit

What is this template for? --TantalumTelluride 00:39, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think you accidentally used curly brackets instead of square brackets. Double square brackets are used for internal links, while double curly brackets are used for template transclusions. For example, User:Shanes produces a link to the Shanes's user page, and reproduces the entire contents of his user page on the page you're editing. When you don't indicate a namespace with curly brackets, the MediaWiki software assumes that you intend to transclude a page from the template namespace, such as Template:Shanes. I don't mean to drown you in technical terms and Wikipedia jargon. You'll catch on soon, though. Just practice editing some articles and studying some source pages, and you can learn about all the tricks and shortcuts built into the software. Meanwhile, you might want to ask Shanes (or another admin) to delete the template. --TantalumTelluride 04:42, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

What in the hell are you talking about? aa v ^ 16:57, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

You know, I don't think I've ever accused anyone of making personal attacks before, but your last comment is close. You may be surprised that, when I was your age, we were pretty similar. As a matter of fact, I went to several Pantera concerts (my favorite of which was seeing Fight, Pantera, and Sepultura in Del Mar, California. Since you seem to identify with and understand music, I've made a temporary copy of my iTunes assets for you). But these days, I'm all growed up. I am a professional, with not a lot of time for bickering with people on the internet. To be 100% honest, I offered to help you because you seemed so totally lost on Wikipedia. You didn't ask for any help, so I couldn't help you. Then you came by and asked me how the fight with vandals was going. Well, I don't especially go after vandals, as I told you. Then you left me these confusing messages. I have no idea what you are talking about. I'm very happy to help you with whatever you're looking for help with, but so far you haven't indicated anything. What can I help you with?
Also, let me give you a word of caution. I don't especially care whether you take Adderall or not. I rather think that mentioning it is "over sharing." However, some of us are particularly sensitive about our mental states. To make such comparisons, including to disorders such as schizophrenia, psychosis, asperger's syndrome, and even ADHD, could very easily offend some users. An example of this would be the unfortunate MSK. Please be very, very careful when using such verbiage.
Thanks, aa v ^ 16:32, 19 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Images under fair use

edit

Hey Gator, the bot took down my HIM logo because it is copyrighted. Although I created it, it was still considered copyright infringment of the real logo. Oh well, another good image lost. I can still put it on an article on Wikipedia in regards to HIM though.

On another note, images on your page are also copyright protected and have to be removed, because they are the property of those individuals. Sorry. Moe ε 23:34, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

The bot won't but the person who owns the bot will. Please read WP:BOT to see what a bot is. I wouldn't readd the images. Moe ε 23:46, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I know, I hate the rule too but theres nothing we can do about it. Copyright is copyright. As to which one's you can use, well, one's that are not copyrighted by individuals. One way to tell if you can use the image or not is going on the actual page of the image, (example: Image:HIM logo.jpg) and see the tag on it. If it's a book cover, album cover, logo or anything like that, you can't use it. If it doesn't have a copyright tag on it, you can use it (example: Image:Tournesol.png) you can put that image anywhere becasue it is freely distributed into the GDFL an can be used anywhere. In a nutshell, look at the copyright status of the image before using it. Moe ε 23:57, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
 • Hi Gator, I gave Moe the heads up about the HIM logo and Moe to his great credit has understood the situation completely. The only thing I would add to the comment above is that some images that may have been uploaded with "free under GDFL" tags might have been incorrectly marked, as the HIM image was until yesterday. Use common sense as well as reading the tags. As Moe says, copyrighted images such as logos (including recreations / drawings thereof), promotional photos etc. can only be used on WP to identify the work or artist concerned, and cannot be used to show admiration or respect for such e.g. on userpages or in signatures. Violating these rules will increase the risk of WP falling foul of copyright laws which is a highly undesirable scenario. ++Deiz 00:34, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Besides that being a little awkward, let me try to understand this. You both just started making corny jokes towards each other that just ended with more corny jokes. You both just need to apologize to eachother for making

1) really bad jokes
2) Bad faith attacks towards each other
and
3) dragging me in on one of the dumbest arguments I ever heard.

Just go to his talk page and apologize. I'm sure if you say your sorry he'll more than likely respond positively back. To who's side I'm taking, I'm taking my own. ;-) Just make-up and let's go back to making an encyclopedia. Moe ε 00:35, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I got your e-mails, sorry I didn't get to them earlier. I left a message on Moe Epsilon's talk page, asking him what he thinks. Please be patient. -- Curps 01:47, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

From User talk:Curps
While I believe he wants to contribute positively to Wikipedia, I would not unblock his previous accounts. As of right now, his image on Wikipedia is in ruins. But I would however like for him to restart under a new account. After he has made the account, allow him to confirm this by contacting either you or me. After that, he should be allowed to freely edit Wikipedia again.
But, I would like a CheckUser run on him in a months time of him recreating his account to make sure he hasn't created anymore accounts to abuse users with. Although I believe everyone deserves a second chance, if he is blocked again for abusive socks (under his new account) he should be permanently blocked. Moe ε 02:29, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I hope you found none of this offensive. I would like for you to recreate an account whenever you decided to make one. Moe ε 03:00, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

You started out at the end of January by posting some apologies to various users (presumably for something you did under a different username), but later you vandalized the RfAdm for User:Brainhell: [2]. It's good that you're apologizing again, but maybe it would be better to create a new account so that you can get a fresh start with a clean slate. -- Curps 03:04, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
