Unspecified source for Image:BedouinSoundclash.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:BedouinSoundclash.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:01, 7 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 03:01, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

AfD Nomination: NFOrce

I've nominated the article NFOrce for deletion under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that NFOrce satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. I have explained why in the nomination space (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/NFOrce. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them. You are free to edit the content of NFOrce during the discussion, but please do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top). Doing so will not end the discussion. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Ted's Montana Grill.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Ted's Montana Grill.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image tagging for Image:300.png

Thanks for uploading Image:300.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

B5media

A tag has been placed on B5media, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because it is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on Talk:B5media. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Deranged bulbasaur 17:43, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Notability of End of Business

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on End of Business, by WWGB (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because End of Business seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting End of Business, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 14:17, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

combining Notes and Citations sections in IPA

Hi, from your contribs I see that you do a lot of work on notes and refs. IPA has sections called Notes and Citations. The Notes section uses the hard-to-maintain ref label tags. Could you look at it? I have started a section at Talk:International Phonetic Alphabet. --Jtir 16:42, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Sure I'll take a look.--Gary King 18:09, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Merge tags

Do not remove merge tags from articles, especially when you do not provide a reason and simply revert without providing an edit summary. - A Link to the Past (talk) 13:31, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Adding categories

Thank you for your efforts in adding categories to articles that were without. Your good intentions are appreciated.

However...

I wish you had taken more care over the work; in some cases your efforts have actually left articles worse off than when they had no category at all. Many of the categories you have added are only approximately correct, but this is not too bad. Some of the categories you have added, however, are just plain wrong; did you even read Basic Food Group before tagging it?

What's more, many of the tags you added were for categories that don't actually exist, namely:

I am not saying you should give up on tagging uncategorized articles, but in future please do it right. --Paul A 10:18, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Just to echo what was said earlier, please do not add very broad parent categories to articles. Under no circumstances should an individual company be in Category:Companies for example. Its better to just leave the uncat tag on them if you can't find a more specific, correct category. —Xezbeth 12:36, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

While categorising, please keep an eye out for nonsense/advertising and don't be afraid to put a CSD or prod tag on them. For example, Chadject is a clear speedy candidate, yet you categorised it without seeming to check. —Xezbeth 07:53, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I'll keep an eye out. I was planning on completing one task at a time. Right now, I'm focused on categorization. --Gary King 07:55, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

When categorising people, please put {{DEFAULTSORT:Surname, First Names}} just above the categories. They're supposed to be sorted by surname. Same goes for titles that start with "A" or "The". —Xezbeth 06:26, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Oh and one more thing, if an article looks pretty well formatted but is only missing external links/references/categories, chances are it has recently been vandalised so look at past versions to see if thats the case. —Xezbeth 06:34, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

You seem to have reverted to adding useless, overly broad categories. Please slow down and actually add useful ones. Category:Soccer and similar are useless and the uncat tag is a better option. —Xezbeth 07:05, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Alright, I'll check up on those. --Gary King 07:13, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Can you read what I posted about surnames? You still aren't doing it. —Xezbeth 07:14, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Alright, I'll be doing it from now on. --Gary King 07:15, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

You don't seem to have absorbed my message about non-existent categories, either: you're still adding categories to Category:Computer software (and possibly others, but that's the one I noticed just now). --Paul A 02:00, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Please use edit summaries

Hello. Please be courteous to other editors and use edit summaries when updating articles. The Mathbot tool shows your usage of edit summaries to be extremely low:

Edit summary usage for Gary King: 1% for major edits and 78% for minor edits. Based on the last 150 major and 9 minor edits in the article namespace.

Using edit summaries helps other editors quickly understand your edits, which is especially useful when you make changes to articles that are on others' watchlists. Thanks and happy editing! --Kralizec! (talk) 03:46, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Netmedia, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. 24.4.253.249 18:31, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

LaunchBar

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article LaunchBar, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Whispering 18:00, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

The wonderfulness of your edit at the Occam's Razor article cannot be overstated

Just a few days ago I rather loudly complained about the obtrusiveness of too many article templates, a general issue which your introducing of that new template to this particular article all but solved. Whether this was because you happened upon my complaint or by sheer coincidence, the article's header looks much more tolerable now and I'll be doing the same to all multi-templated articles I encounter from now on. Thanks again. --AceMyth 06:46, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Of course I was sarcastic! After all, sarcasm is really helpful! :-P No, I really do think it's an improvement. --AceMyth 06:53, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

ProLine Message Center Editor

I deleted the added category "Software". That's the top of the software tree categories, not appropriate for this low detail item. I know, no one used to notice dumping articles there, but I just cleaned it out and will try to keep it that way. And I'd rather original posters spent the time to find appropriate categories than my doing it, sorry. btw "Application software" isn't appropriate either, I'm cleaning that out as well. Thanks, tooold 08:59, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Martin Demaine

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Martin Demaine, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Martin Demaine seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Martin Demaine, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. Dr. Peter Kavanagh

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Dr. Peter Kavanagh, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
