Yeah, they're off by 1, because SFWA counts it by the year that the works were published, not the year that the ceremony actually happened. Ignoring that that's confusing to start with, if you read the lead of the article(s), it wasn't until 2009 that that was even true- it was entirely possible (and happened a lot) that a book would get published in 2000, not get enough votes to be fully nominated until 2001 (but less than 12 months from publication), then get awarded in 2002. SFWA calls that the 2001 awards, but I (and Locus, which is the source I used) call it 2002, to match every other award ever (and to make consistent sense). Not to mention that it wasn't until 1980 that the "year" was the calendar year, rather than December-Novemeber (i.e. a book published Dec 20, 1970 was not eligible for the awards given in 1971, even though SFWA called them the "1970" awards. Since naming the award year by the publication dates has only made sense for the last 3 years, not the whole 46, I went with ceremony date. --PresN 22:06, 13 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
