Hello Freewayguy, Just dropping by to say all the best for your work on wikipedia. I am a freeway fan like you living in Australia and keep up the great work. I've only been to the USA once and i think its fair to say your roads are pretty good over there but since everybody loves driving over there, it seems to be a traffic jam 24/7 especially in LA. Over here the planning people are so stupid they are still building freeway with just 2 lanes in each direction. Its a nightmare, we got a lot of greenies over here who say no more freeway etc. you know the usual. And also a lot of NIMBYs. Take it easy, Roadrunnerz45 (talk) 00:37, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, or what that has to do with California postmiles or Wikipedia. And please don't edit your signature every time your post. Why are you asking me? I've never edited a California article, and I've never looked through Caltrans's website. You're probably just trying to download a PDF file or something. MD state shields

Just a note that "NO NO NO NO NO NO" is probably not the most effective edit message in the world... Personally I don't particularly care whether the Maryland shields are placed in the articles, but since it's in the MDRD editing guide, I reverted your edits. - Algorerhythms (talk) 03:42, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

When merging

When you tag an article for a merge, you need to leave the tag on there for longer than an hour or so. You need to keep it there for at least a week. Also, I-110 and US 54 do have different alignments, look at a map, only the northern half of I-110 is concurrent with US 54. --Holderca1 ^talk 12:18, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Making shields

The first thing you need to do is actually make the shield. If you already did this, just skip to the next paragraph. If you haven't done this you should first save the state-name interstate shield templates on your computer (they are commons:Image:US DOT FHWA MUTCD SHS 2004 3-1 M1-1 600x600mm 88 NY.svg for 1 and 2-digit shields, and commons:Image:US DOT FHWA MUTCD SHS 2004 3-1 M1-1 750x600mm 678 NY.svg for 3-digit shields). You then need to edit the one you need with an SVG editor like Inkscape and convert the text to a path. So for your example you would open the 3-digit template, change "NEW YORK" to "NEVADA" and "678" to "215", then convert both pieces of text to paths. Afterwards, use "save as" to save it as "I-215 (NV).svg".

After the shield is made go to commons:special:upload, use the browse button to find the file on your computer, give the image a good description, and don't forget to give it a license! I made that mistake myself a few times. Most people have just used public domain as the license (including me). The Inkscape website is http://www.inkscape.org. You don't edit the images directly on a website, you'll need to install Inkscape on your computer and then use it to open the templates (which need to be saved on your computer first), then you just need to click on the state name and number to change them, and to convert them to paths hold ctrl and shift and press C.-Jeff ^(talk) 01:53, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

To check sockpuppets

Usually we don't know usernames IP. Because even i couldn't determine people sockpuppet, and it will be bad to randomly accuse people per WP:BITE, and do them all wrong. Trust me... 95% of the time, people who come to vandalise wikipedia aren't smart enough to cover their tracks. They return to the same articles, make the same edits, have the same interests, attack the same users. Most often, checkuser isn't even necessary. Well-put. That's how User:Tecmobowl got nailed, for example. He even invented a sock user ID called "El redactor"... who remained a red-link and was acting in behalf of the then-only-temporarily-blocked Tecmobowl. Many sockpuppeteers assume that wiki admins are as dumb as they themselves are. P.S. The exact techniques of doing the checkuser are secret. Tecmo tried to argue that because of that secrecy, he was denied due process... i.e., he was denied the chance to be more clever in evading the next time. He gone.
