License tagging for Image:ModelViewControllerDiagram.png edit

Thanks for uploading Image:ModelViewControllerDiagram.png. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 13:07, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Sure think. I'll look into that. --Fred Bradstadt 13:15, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

94% standard? edit

Ninety-four percent width is not standard on any of my dozen or so navigational templates. - Samsara (talkcontribs) 22:31, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

See for example Template talk:NavigationBox#100% Width. On 2nd thought, I agree with Circeus, that there is "no point in putting a width limit on something that is smaller anyway" – and I think we should take care not to over-use the <br /> tag either, as screen resolutions, font widths etc. are different from one user to the next. --Fred Bradstadt 06:51, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Double transclusion edit

Hi Fred. I just noticed you had edited the Template:Cryptographic hash functions two months ago. Your edit made the navigation box look different from the other navigation boxes we use in crypto (and I think it looked less good too) and it caused a double transclusion which is a big no-no for most of us. Also the navigation box template you used lacks an "edit button" which means only very experienced Wikipedia editors know how to figure out how to edit it. --David Göthberg 15:14, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Template:NavigationBox is a fine (?) example of double transclusion. Now that we finally got rid of Template:Prettytable, maybe we should work on making a standard css class for footer templates... --Fred Bradstadt 10:09, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kudos for Tables! edit

Tour de France Finishers edit

I noticed you changed around the table format for the 2006 Tour Finishers. I just wanted to note that at first it was consistent with the other leader tables on the page. I won't revert, because it probably looks better, but if you want to fix up 50-100, they are at user:Aioth/TDF. --Aioth 06:30, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oops, I didn't look at the tables further up the TDF page, but you're right. It needs consistency, and I'll fix it today, including the 50-100 results from your page Thanks for notifying me. Fred Bradstadt 11:25, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Template:Harold Lloyd edit

Although the template is now standardized, it looks somewhat messier and less organized than it did in this edit. I was wondering if you know of any way to keep that little space between the "silent" and "sound" section, as well as to keep the two sections assigned to the left rather than to the centre, while having the head be the same as in the "standardized" version. Esn 06:11, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Esn and thanks for your comments. I'll try using another template that should look more organized :-) See this edit --Fred Bradstadt 06:45, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Moving Images edit

Hi,

I noticed you moved some of the images I have put onto several pages that I have edited. I do not mind you doing that. I admit the sizes are a bit ridiculous. If you could put a race report in some of the pages that i have edited, I would be greatful.

Many thanks Davnel03 17:40, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Davnel03. I must admit that I have never seen many of the older races, so I'm not able to write a race report about them. But many race reports are missing and needed, I agree. Fred Bradstadt 08:59, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Navigation template edit

Hi. I noticed your edit on {{CinemaofCanada}} and I would like to know more about the navigation template. Dozens of Cinemaof templates have recently been created and I believe the intent was for a uniform appearance. A lot of work went into them, which included the creation of flag icons. I tried a blend using the navigation template and the flag icon on {{CinemaofThailand}}. The image is tiny, but at least it is there. Anyway, I'd like to know more about what you think. Thank you! — WiseKwai 10:58, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have no opinion for or against using a picture in the templates. In {{CinemaofCanada}} I removed the image because, as you say, it should otherwise be quite tiny. Anyway, if pictures were to be included, I'd probably consider using {{Navigation with image}} instead of {{Navigation}}. Best regards, Fred Bradstadt 12:21, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! That led me to a helpful page with many interesting examples to ponder. — WiseKwai 03:35, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
What's the basis for the specific change you're making to all these templates? Some of us spent a lot of time hashing out the dimensions of our comics-related templates, and I'd like to know the reason a change in dimensions made by someone who wasn't in on those discussions. If there's a Wikipedia exemplar or style guideline involved, then we all need to know about it. Doczilla 08:03, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Many navigation templates seem self-invented and has a poor coding (both html & wiki). I'm merely attempting to standardize these templates so they have a similar look, while being as or more easier to maintain. Btw, I've changed Template:Superman back to 80% width. —Fred Bradstadt 09:08, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Personally I prefer 95 or 100% myself, but I lost the vote on that one. I think what you're doing is fine. As long as you're prepared for the fact that you will step on a few toes along the way, it shouldn't be a problem when you're obviously ready to defer to prior consensus as specific cases come up. Doczilla 09:55, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Doczilla, I really appreciate you saying that :-) —Fred Bradstadt 10:29, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template:State pageantry edit

Hi. Thanks for standardizing this and all the related templates that you have been working on. I was wondering if I could ask you if it is possible to modify the code to allow for the box to not use the entire width (maybe 50%?) and for the Teen pageants to appear under their parents instead of everything on one row. This was done intentionally so that the child is under the parent. I can get the 2nd row to come back, but I can't figure out how to make it less wide. --After Midnight 0001 01:50, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, could you please reply. I would really appreciate your assistance with this. --After Midnight 0001 02:47, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Director Templates. edit

Mate, calm down, I have stopped. If it's really that bad I won't ever make another template again. I promise. Really all I was trying to do was make it easier to read. That is all. Isn't that what we're all trying to do? Make Wikipedia a better place?

Anyway, do what you like, delete them, re-direct them, whatever. I won't get in your way. Blackjanedavey 04:57, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Alright I'll take your advice. Cheers. Blackjanedavey 10:28, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template:Birth control methods edit

Hi! Good work on Template:Birth control methods! I have been collaborating on that template for many months and what you did looks generally good. There are a few functional issues which I was hoping you could help me address:

  1. The previous version of the template did not involve numbered groups within the markup. I added two groups to the list today; and it was very tedious to have to renumber all of the groups after I added them. I would like to reformat the template so that it is not necessary to renumber when the groups change, perhaps by removing the numbers altogether. Can you do this?
  2. The previous version of the template used a grey color for the group names and subgroup titles. This made it easier to see which page you were on, as the page you were on would always appear in black. Now that the group names and subgroup titles appear in black, it is more difficult to navigate. Can you restore the grey color to these?

Thank you for reading, "Fred"! A request: please reply here, rather than at my talk page. Good day, Joie de Vivre 14:34, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Joie, and thanks for your message.
  1. Sorry, the numbered groups/lists have to be numbered. So if you insert a new group & list, the following ones have to be renumbered. It's a question of changing 10-12 numbers...
  2. That, on the other hand, is possible :-) I have changed the "base" text color of the template to gray.
You might want to take a look at Template:Navbox generic, the documentation for the template on which {{Birth control methods}} is now based. --Fred Bradstadt 19:58, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Fred. Thanks for changing the base color. Unfortunately; it didn't solve the problem. The functionality that was nice is that it was clear which page you were on when looking at the template, because the text was black. Now, the link to the page you are on is in grey, like the others. It still becomes bold, which is useful, but it would be better if it could become black, as it did. Do you know how to do this? Thanks! Joie de Vivre 21:23, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hm, I see what you mean. I don’t think that can be done (not easily, anyway). The “real” problem, so to speak, is that the bolded “self”-link is easily confused with the permanenly bolded, grey text. So I'll try substituting the bold markup with italics markup. Please let me know if you like it. (We might even consider trashing the bold/italic altogether and just use plain text) --Fred Bradstadt 07:18, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Textile navigation templates edit

Hi, I noticed that you updated the format of the {{weaving}} template. As with some other projects here, we're striving toward a uniform set of templates across wikipedia:WikiProject Textile Arts.

If you want to standardize the template format, could you please do all of them to match? (I'd really like to make {{lace types}} match, with an image, but frankly it's beyond my rudimentary template-making skills.)

A list can be found at Category:Textile arts navigational templates. Thanks! - PKM 17:32, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi PKM. I’ll take a look at the other templates, and it’d be my pleasure to update them. --Fred Bradstadt 18:29, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
There you go. --Fred Bradstadt 20:28, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much!!! - PKM 16:46, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bullets edit

Why are the "bullets" - the dots that are used as separators in navigation templates - placed behind the entries? To me, if the dot falls at the end of a line, it seems orphaned, whereas if it's attached to the front, it seems more in place, and functions like a bullet in a listing. That was why I had them placed just so on {{CinemaofThailand}}. It's a small thing, I realize, in the grand scheme of things. But it must make a difference, or else you wouldn't have taken the time to change it. I'd just like to understand the reasoning behind it, so I don't make the same mistake again. Thank you! — WiseKwai 16:03, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good question, and I’m not sure if I can answer it, other that there seems to be a consensus of separating template list items with “&nbsp;• ” or “{{·}} ”. I found a few somewhat related discussions on Template:·, Template talk:Navigation#Pipe separator, Template talk:NavigationBox and Wikipedia talk:Navigational templates#Style guideline for footer templates.
By the way, the changes I made to {{CinemaofThailand}} was in an effort to make all related “Cinemaof…” templates in Category:Film country templates look similar.

Thanks! I'll have a look at the links you've provided. I appreciate your efforts. — WiseKwai 19:06, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Films templates edit

You seem to be forgetting if it wasn't for me we wouldn't have a Films by country template and very few lists by country. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 21:22, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd rather you helped with the List of Danish films !!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 21:24, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think you should take a look at Wikipedia:Ownership of articles and the talk pages of {{Worldcinema}} and {{Filmsbycountry}} – I guess these are the pages we're talking about. –Fred Bradstadt 07:17, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
PS: Please remember to give an Edit summary.

I wondering why you have now made all the film list templates left. -It makes it look less clear what was wrong with the center?? Why can't you just put in some useful edits on the articles themselves rather than consistent templates altering -its obsessive ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 10:27, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I know you've done some consistent great work in cleaning up templates and standardizing templates across wikipedia which I am very grateful for - well done!!! its just occasionally some of your changes might seem questionable. The main film and cinema templates look great now anyway. The problem is coming up with a format that everybody is happy with and agrees is the best solution -this can be difficult with so many users!!. Anyway all the best ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 11:24, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Fred. One template thats been doing my head in for months is Template:Cinema of Bengal. PLease can you format it like the Filmsbycountry template to it doesn't waste so much space. Thanks ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 16:29, 4 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I'll take a look at {{Cinema of Bengal}}. And thanks for asking :-) –Fred Bradstadt 15:16, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speedway templates edit

Hi. After You changes in here, here and here, this template are not appear on article (see). To correct this, please. If not, I revert You changes. Best wishes, Radziński (t) 14:20, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Almost all of my changes are already changed back, so there's not much for you to revert. The Speedway template structure is very odd and complex, so I'd put the blame there instead… Best regards, Fred Bradstadt 21:50, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
