Short descriptions
editMOrning Folco. I Have just noticed some of your recent edits: can I just mention that short descriptions are supposed to begin with a capital letter, as per Wikipedia:Short_description#Formatting. thanks IdreamofJeanie (talk) 04:50, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
- Folco88, please stop changing short descriptions against the standard format. Continuing to do so may be viewed as disruptive editing. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 05:20, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
- @IdreamofJeanie:
- @Tamzin:
- Hello. I was changing the first letter of the article descriptions to lowercase because that's what the style guide marks at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Apps/Suggested_edits#Tips_for_creating_article_descriptions
- I arrived there through the help button at the article descriptions editor of the Wikipedia app for Android. I'll stop doing it, and revert any article you haven't reverted yet, but that page should be corrected in order not to confuse well-meaning editors.
- By the way, I hope this is the right way of replying to you. It's the first time I do so, and I have no idea if this is the right channel nor method.
- Thanks to you both.

- Thanks for the explanation, Folco88. The discrepancy here seems to be because mw:Wikimedia Apps/Suggested edits is telling you the guidelines for adding descriptions on Wikidata. The English Wikipedia used to pull our descriptions from Wikidata, but we switched to our current locally-hosted short-description system instead. And for whatever reason, Wikidata decided to lowercase the first letter; the English Wikipedia decided to uppercase it.
- As to why the app directed you to that guideline, I'm not sure. Can you tell me the exact train of links you tapped on to arrive at that guideline? It sounds like something I might need to bring up with the developers, to avoid mix-ups like this in the future.
- And yes, this is the right way to reply! I had a whole thing typed up about how {{ping}} works but I see you figured that out. Although note that it works for multiple users at once, so you can jus tdo
{{reply to|Tamzin|IdreamofJeanie}}
. Also, we indent our replies to make it easier to follow discussions. (I've done that for you on your previous comment.:)
) You can do new paragraphs within your replies by starting a new line and then indenting it the same amount. (With unindented text, it's two newlines to start a new paragraph, which is why your message initially all showed up as one paragraph.) And then I had a thing here about signatures, but you figured that out too. Y'know what I didn't have here when I went to submit this? My own signature. LOL. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 05:57, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
