Hello edit

Uh...Hi there, i'm not a wikipedia user. I'm just a kid trying to know some music terms that are new for me. Like for example I wanted to know what a band's B sides are-or what they mean? And also what is an EP?59.183.167.133 15:05, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well hello. First you should know what's a single; a song released by a band to increase sales or recognisation, these often are the songs that people like the most from an album, compilation of songs. Some bands like The Beatles however often didn't include their singles on their albums which then were released only on two-faced vinyl records, as well as the singles (often on smaller discs: 12" for albums, 7" for singles as the disc would have a minor length). Many single discs were packaged as one-track discs but other had even more songs than the single itself so they would be called EPs (for extended play). The single song was recorded on the A-side of the disc, and the other song on the B-side, therefore the name. You can see examples on Beatles "She Loves You" (single) and its b-side "I'll Get You".
Nowadays, b-sides are still an option or a tradition that many bands still follow so they release a single with one, two or even three b-sides (look at Muse's "Cave" or Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know"). As many of this songs are rarely known (50,000 copies by single and up to millions on albums) they are considered rarities and may be sometimes difficult to find; these often aren't released on albums. Also, the term EP is now despected to a five or six track CD such as Coldplay's The Blue Room EP or Keane's Live Recordings 2004, like a proto-album. However, EP and CD Single are often synonyms. Hope that solves your doubts and if you have any other come and ask me.--Fluence 00:14, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey thanks! And one more... A CD single is an LP to be heard on the gramophone?

Well the gramophone record is equal to vinyl so a CD isn't technicaly a gramophone. An LP or long play is equal to album. You can call "EP" a CD Single or "LP" an album but not LP a CD single. Remember a CD single is a short record. When a CD has more than 5 tracks it's a bit odd to call it CD Single (single for "one"). You can see that on "singles" like Muse's "Muscle Museum" 3-track CD Single and Muscle Museum EP 5-track CD which both were intended to promote the song "Muscle Museum":)--Fluence 01:25, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the description...i'll see if I can do anything about it. But I will certainly try! And I guess THE MEKON wants to get married to you. Well that is gross, no doubt about it. I don't basically encourage my friends to get married to cunts you know! Image copyright problem with Image:Keane2003.jpg edit

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Keane2003.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. BigrTex 18:14, 18 June 2007 (UTC) Reply

Have you lost your mind! edit

C'mon Fluence, Keane is your favourite band. How can you change your mind like that? Oh I know, you're just tired of the vandalism and the Keane critism from shit like The Mekon. You seriously need a break. I'm not joking on this.Victoria Eleanor 05:06, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Keane_WMAWBS.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Keane_WMAWBS.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 15:12, 19 June 2007 (UTC) Reply

Okay edit

So now i've got the hang of it. The guy who happened to be Fluence is not you so now i'm not confused. I was pretty sure something was wrong because it's practically impossible for anyone to start hating their favourite band so suddenly just because for a few idiots. So I checked the history of my talk and then your IP address wasn't there. So obviously i realised it was the guy who called you a cunt previously. Yes it's the same guy.

And about the userbox, don't worry I got the hang of it and put them on my user page. Check them out!Victoria Eleanor 03:53, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

No it's not edit

It's not a joke. So you're Fluence. June talked highly about you. She said you were the only friendly one on wikipedia. As for the message I left on her talk, please ignore it, I was really sentimental at that time. But she's not out of danger. She overdosed on her sleeping pills. I found her completely dazed and so took her to hospital. But the doctor's not very hopeful of her. That's why pray. I don't want to lose her, and i'm sure you don't want to either.Jade1984 16:28, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey! edit

Hey, how ya doin?? Victoria was telling me about you the other day. And can you e-mail Victoria or something and find out exactly what happened to her? I am really worried. Lets just pray for the best. Thanks. :-) Jayant,18 Years, Indiacontribs 20:04, 21 June 2007 (UTC) Reply

Image:MexicoWTC.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:MexicoWTC.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Alx 91 18:34, 24 June 2007 (UTC) Reply

Frustrating news edit

This will be very frustrating for you to learn, but it would be even more cruel to keep you ignorant.

Due to a number of factors, starting with your own question about whether her name was 'June' or 'Mary Ann', a checkuser was run on Victoria Eleanor and Jade1984. The two accounts were identified as belonging to the same person - who isn't even in England; it's someone in India.

Suspicion was also raised about Arundhati lejeune, but as far as we can tell, that's a separate person.

I'm really sorry. DS 02:21, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's not me . . . I wish someone could find out what's going on. Is there no in-print obituary printed in a newspaper that we can get hold of? Arundhati lejeune 13:11, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
All the reasons you gave on my talk page were why we-the-administrators were suspicious. Checkuser was performed, and it confirmed that the two accounts belonged to the same person. It also showed that the person was lying about being in England. DS 01:02, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Actually, it seems she "moved" to Australia, on 24 December 2006. But still. India, yeah. Interestingly, at one point her userpage did say she was able to contribute at a "near-native" level of Hindi, and at an "intermediate" level of Marathi.--Dreaded Walrus t c 01:15, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
What exactly is going on here??? Arundhati lejeune 02:46, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

OK, thanks everyone for trying to straighten this mess up. I felt pretty awful about this for a while. At least Victoria Eleanor, whoever she or he is, is probably still alive somewhere. Being played for a fool is better than someone dying, although I think this is clearly an abuse. I am assuming those accounts will be blocked from further editing? Thanks again. Arundhati lejeune 03:09, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, I think I left a message kind of concerned on your page about what "See you soon" might mean since Victoria's death had been announced . . . I didn't know you so I just wanted to make sure no one else did anything irreversible. June1984 did sound a good bit like VE at first to me . . . saying she had no friends and was lonely and all that (that reminded me of Victoria) but in the shock I wasn't paying much attention. Anyway thanks. Arundhati lejeune 03:17, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
If you have questions about whether this is a blockable offense or not, you may be interested in asking User:DragonflySixtyseven, as he is an admin, and probably knows a lot more about blocking policies than I do. It's a complex case. She hasn't really vandalised anything, and there haven't been any personal attacks. --Dreaded Walrus t c 03:26, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

And a suggestion...have you heard The Feeling? If you haven't then listen to their song called Rosé. Just go here and in that bar click on Rosé. The audio will start playing it. It's a really good song. Here are the lyrics. Their other song Sewn is also good, it's in the same bar on that site. Again the lyrics of the song is here

Zoé...really cool band. I'm listening to No Me Destruyas right now. Even though I can't understand anything they're pretty good. Thanks for the suggestion. Happy you're starting to like Arctic Monkeys. Fluorescent Adolescent is a good song. Now time for another suggestion :D --

  • Youth Group is an Australian band and it also has Patrick Matthews, who was the co-founder of The Vines and also former bassist{he left :-(}. I didn't bother listening to the other songs but, Forever young is must listen. It's actually a cover of the actual Alphaville Forever Young. Check it out
  • Mademoiselle K she's a frenck rock singer. So check out her song Ca Me Vexe out here
You'll definately like these bands :D Jade1984 04:44, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • And secondly Keane's cover of Destiny Child's Bootylicious is over here. So enjoy! (Uh...it's called Dirrtylicious. It was sung on the Jo Whiley radio show in the UK)

And...Was Tom Chaplin really on drugs? Never heard about it. If so I hope he's OK now...

Yeah I know. No Vines for the Sydney Leg or anywhere for that matter! I'm not a big fan of Wolfmother. Keane is all that I'm acquainted with from all the probable bands performing. And it's definately not gonna help. I mean as soon as Madonna steps on to the stage, all the holes in the ozone layer are not gonna vanish! Nor will the temperatures improve. Tha damage is already done, the awareness is too late. The only awareness I get from this Live Earth thing is Be sure to vote for Al Gore in the 2008 Prez Elections!!! B-O-R-I-N-G!!!!!!!!! License tagging for Image:Keane-Somewhere Only We Know.ogg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Keane-Somewhere Only We Know.ogg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:
